his bright sunshiney expression is infectious, it seems, as a mirroring grin overtakes her expression. the following hug is warm, paired with a quick squeeze and a faint lingering. she ignores the reluctance to let go and retracts her claws before she leaves holes in him.

”you better, or it’d get very awkward at home.”

less awkward, however, than him finding out what she’s been doing in her spare time… apartment hunting.

somehow, she can’t bring herself to tell him yet. she tries, going so far as to open her mouth and almost blurt it out, but then he smiles and she loses the courage to change their agreement.

”so, whatcha got in store for me today, hm?”

[attr="class","giada i”]true to his word, he clears the course with an impressive time and his clothes still in tact. he even wears a cocky smirk in triumph. the resulting eyeroll follows a second later.

”show off.”

but… if he can do it, why couldn’t she? she made a career — albeit a criminal one — out of agility and staying light on her feet.

with a soft sigh, she takes her position at the start of the course and readies herself for the thunder wave signal. when it fires, the timer beginning, she launches forward and tries to twirl through the course. her time is a second or two behind his as she nears the last platform, as one of her feet falters, and she tenses. a quick lunge for safety spares her the worst of the detonation as the voltorb below explodes…

it definitely helps that his experience with competitive running sets him up for success with this particular obstacle course. it's basically running but doing so fast and light enough to avoid triggering the panels.[break][break]

watching in anticipation, he stays right where he is at the end of the course, ready to embrace her in victory. but she falters, and the SELF-DESTRUCT that follows alights the room.[break][break]

thankfully, he's there to catch her as the impact sends them careening into the ground.

and in the aftermath, as the self destruct settles back into stillness, she trembles slightly.

”well, shit.”

she lost, almost blew up, and hit her head… disappointing.

after a moment, she tries to peel herself away from him with a soft, ”sorry, you okay?”

and she isn't quite sure she's ever wanted to retract a statement as much as she does right now. the uncomfortable sensation of imminent loss rises like bile in her throat.

a beat passes and she wants to let the silence linger, but she forces herself to pipe up again. it comes out tentative, unsure.
