This was one of the last chances for war preparation. It wasn't even on the horizon anymore but rather a dark and stormy cloud. They were only waiting for the downpour to reach their faces. [break][break]

She stood beside Kasper and tried to assess just how prepared they were. Their youth showed so obviously on their face, but age wasn't an end-all be-all for competence. It was important to remember that. The person who killed you in the battlefield could look like anyone. "So," she started softly, not wanting to startle them by interrupting the intensity of the moment. "Who should we go with?" [break][break]

She wanted Kasper to feel they had someone in their corner. And, all things considered, Ameena liked the kid and had shown enough interest in their development to consider herself invested in their success. "I know Zev. He is very intense, but he is also one of the most powerful members of Rocket. Very few are in his league. But some of his power is completely unobtainable to anyone else." His lessons might have natural drawbacks considering that. He fought at a caliber no one unaligned with a god could quite manage. [break][break]

"I know nothing of the other." What would Kasper choose? Was it worth it to gamble on the unknown?

with everything going on, kasper was (this time) not unused to the idea of training, and this was no different. neither was training with ameena, even if the groups in front of them were more or less strangers to kasper. they knew of them, somewhat, but their knowledge of both of them started and stopped at their names and their ranks within rocket. everything else about them was new to kasper.

ameena’s involvement is a relief in more ways than one- partially because kasper does like her, and partially because with what she knows, she’s making sure they won’t be going into this completely blind. a glance between the groups doesn’t tell them too much- just that zev seems much more intimidating than mint, and they’d probably die of fright if they had to train with him even in a simulation.

mint not only looks closer to their age, but also like he wouldn’t tear them apart. maybe. hopefully.

they hum, hoping it seems more like they’re indecisive and less like they’ve already made up their mind. “maybe the other one?” they nod towards mint and his group before they’re turning a grin towards the woman with them. “who knows- maybe you’ll learn something new, too, if you don’t know them.”

The Beast's digital expression reflects "^_^" back at you from behind his gear, which startles you. You hadn't realized that his disguise was so well-formed. [break][break]

"You know," he says. "If you want a suit like mine, you can just go ask Admin Delaney." [break][break]

fern delaney is renowned for their expertise in forgery and counterfeiting. With the impending war, it would be wise to have such security measures for your identity. Perhaps that’s something you'll pursue later. But for now... [break][break]

"How do you feel about working with your hands?" the Beast asks your group, as he decides to organize you into even smaller groups. [break][break]

"If I have to work with Ja—I mean, Admin Cross, I'd rather not," someone speaks up behind you. You recognize the voice as Victoria Beckett's. Isn't that Underboss Beckett's daughter, recently returned from Kanto? Or are those just rumors? [break][break]

If you skip weapons training with jayden cross, which looks intimidating enough, you'll have to engage in hand-to-hand combat with Beast Tempest Quinn. Watching him unleash his pit of canines against defenseless grunts makes you wonder if that's any better. [break][break]

That new suit is looking more and more appealing. [break][break]

It's a kind thought. Ameena rewards Kasper with a smile. [break][break]

Learn something new it is. They follow Mint and receive two choices for training. She's worked with both. However, her weapons proficiency is higher than the average grunt after her military service. She thinks both of them can benefit from something unarmed. More than that, she knows Tempest as a warmer personality than anyone else in Rocket, and he's easy to get along with. [break][break]

Not that an assault will really demonstrate that, but. What can you do? [break][break]

"We will go with Tempest," she announces, dragging Kasper along with her. More quietly, as the grunts disperse around them to go along with their chosen instructor, she says, "Temp is a cool guy. You would like him... in other circumstances. I suspect we will really be put to the test right now, so just do your best."

joining mint means a lot of things- partially that their words earn them a smile from ameena, and also that the part of their brain that takes note of that is quicklly overshadowed by the part of their brain that goes holy shit at the beast's digital expression changing.

"they'd be able to do the weird like...expression? thing?" it's partially to try to distract themself from not picking apart the mask, and partially directed to ameena- she probably knows more about it- but the curiosity is there. they'll have to ask for sure later.

the options are cut down into smaller groups, and, this time, kasper does know one of the people in charge of a group. Tempest Quinn seems cool, from what kasper's seen of him, and their past experiences from training with him leave them a little less intimidated.

until he releases his dogs, anyway. that's more than enough to stop them from perking up too much.

"i know temp. he was actually one of the first people i trained with." as they watch the scene, though, they wince a little at the way the poor grunt is losing. "not like...this sort of training, though. it was just a pokemon battle."

the threat of being maimed by dogs aside, kasper feels a little more confident knowing there's two people they've trained with before, now. it makes joining the crowd a bit closer to the fight easier.

"I am not so familiar with the mechanics of the mask, or with the beast behind it." She caught Kasper's implicit question, the one underneath what they asked. Ameena thought it was a helpful apparatus, and it made Mint more approachable than the beast might have otherwise been with a blank mask, but she was unsure of the beast's temperament. Rockets were quite unpredictable in that sense. [break][break]

Tempest was a welcome sight, but Ameena knew the two of them would need to really bring it. "It is good that you know him. But now you must impress him." She smiled despite herself. She was aware he was trying to bring together a task force for more organized training. And she was aware she was welcome to join it. The invitation would certainly be revoked if she failed here, but she didn't doubt herself. She intended to succeed. [break][break]

"The decisive are rewarded with victory," she recited for Kasper's benefit. "It would be foolish to put the battle on his terms; let's attack." She charged forward. Tempest had one of the more refined physiques, so close quarters was by no means easy, but her height made her hard to toss around or grapple. She went for more of a tackle, aiming to unbalance him and garner his full attention so Kasper could land a punch.
