“LEAGUE PERSONNEL IN BUNKER, PERMISSION TO DETONATE?”

“What– fuck it, blow it to–”

He pressed the button before the rest of the sentence came out. And he couldn’t hear it over the sudden explosion hot on his tail. The force of it sent him up the last couple steps, and the breath from his lungs as he slammed into the ground.

Dirt and dust followed him upwards as well, which made his already stunned senses even worse. Painful coughs wracked his oxygen-starved body. Desperate arms carried him forward in an attempt to inhale something cleaner than years-old micro-particles. It took longer than it should’ve for that to be the case.

But even ringing ears couldn’t prevent the radio static from driving him up the wall. “Not– dead.”

Click. It took more energy to flip over than expected. The sky greeted him with its gentle indifference, alongside the disturbed trees. They shook their branches angrily at him, and he apologized quietly underneath his lost breath. Pain shot up his neck as he craned it upward.

There was no longer an entrance, but a pile of rubble meant to prevent entry and exit for anyone else. Could that stop the one that possessed Zacian? It’d have to– or he was as good as gone.

After several long minutes, spent listening for shifting stone or enemy patrols, he finally took the radio and turned it back on.

“--Fisher, you still alive?”

“... Yes.”

“What happened?”

A long pause. “A league personnel and I had a chat. He had the upper hand. The bunkers in this area are known quantities.”

“Fuck… well, at least you’re alive. Doesn’t matter if they know our plan now. Plans changed: any bunker you see is a detonation target. Clear?”

“... As rain.”
