his office, despite the grandness of the tower it's in, is simple and humble in comparison. alexander stands at the front of his desk and gestures to one of the chairs.

"this meeting might seem a bit random, so let me explain. i was recently made aware of your situation and i just had to reach out."

he offers her a smile.

"how are they treating you?"

hm. her response is lacking but expected. alexander acn only imagine the number of meetings like this she's had to endure. it's for that reason only that he decides to expediate the process.

"do you think the rangers are doing a good job?"

it leaves a little more blunt than he would have liked. he continues with a reassurance.

"i assure you this will stay between us. i am simply curious."

"perhaps too much time."

alexander's opinion is not only restricted to the rangers but rather the entire organization. there have always been internal problems and the way they've been dealt with had been more reactive than proactive. he looks to change that.

"i'll be honest with you, miss foster. i disagree with how they're handling you. i believe you have so much more to offer. perhaps their objectives can be realised sooner with your help."

"i mean, they let me borrow pokemon sometimes. for missions. they...they're not really mine though." they were more often there to protect iris if her starter or fellow rangers couldn't. as soon as the job was done, the pokemon would go back to them.

ah. he should have clarified. "and that's the problem right there." they lack trust. they expect her to serve under their ranks without giving her the necessary tools or guidance to succeed. where they fail, he will succeed.

alexander reaches behind him for a piece of paper and hands it over to her. on it are details of a larvesta. it lists basic information on the pokemon and also its moves and personality. it's quiet, shy, reserved, but has potential to be something much more. he pulls a pokeball out of his pocket and extends it over to her as well.

"we have about twenty minutes for a battle. you think you can put up a fight using that?" arms crossed over his chest, he reiterates. "do it your way, miss foster."

[attr="class","ithread"]when she takes the paper, it's with more enthusiasm than she'd like to let on. iris scans the sheet, though she only glosses over its personality in favour for its moveset. "my way..." she repeats. that hadn't been something she'd ever heard from the league.
[break][break]examining the pokeball, she then looks back to mister stone. "and this is staying between us too?" she can't help but wonder if this is a test; a means for the rangers to measure her progress.

as if already anticpating what happens next, alexander stands and gestures for her to follow. he leads them out of the office, down the hall, and into the elevator. pushing on the fourteenth floor takes them to an entire floor set up for battling. the decor is lacking perhaps for the convenience of cleaning up after. oddly, they never once ran into another person on their way to.

[attr="class","ithread"]there is a wave of nostalgia that comes with artificial battlegrounds such as these. it is only now that iris realises she hasn't stepped foot in one since joining the league--not for these purposes, anyway. iris releases her pokemon before walking to her place, watching how it reacted, how it moved. she's taken the paper with her, and takes the moment to read it over once more.

it takes a while for alexander to release his pokemon. he spends his time observing her, taking in how she analyzes the larvesta, how she reads the paper, and soon–how she reacts.

the scenario has long been planned out. it commences the moment alexander's togetic enters the battlefield. a FAIRY WIND is summoned as onne flutters her wings forward and uses the momentum to drift closer. the togetic starts circling around the larvesta, remaining out of its reach.

how will iris command her immobile larvesta against a much faster and airborne opponent?

[attr="class","ithread"]while her opponent has an unmistakable advantage, alexander stone doesn't seem to be here for an easy victory. not a definitely loss, but certainly a challenge. the larvesta seems visibly anxious from the pokemon's circling, and iris has to bite back a sigh. it's the sort of habit she would spent weeks breaking, back at rocket, but she does not have the fortune of time right now.

"amnesia." is the closest compromise for her shrinking violet. the special defence boost is a good bonus, given the attacking style of a togetic. unless, that is, mister stone is particularly unconventional.
