If there was one thing Alexei was inherently bad at, it was the fact that he couldn’t dance at all.[break][break]

Unlike his siblings, he wasn’t one for that kind of entertainment, however he didn’t want to reveal to Florian that he was a terrible dancer (he did have two left feet after all) so he decided to look for help.[break][break]

Hopefully…[break][break]

The only person he could contact at this point was his younger sister—she did look like someone who could move and groove.[break][break]

Now the thing here was… did he get it right? He hoped so. Otherwise it would be an embarrassing evening of confessing to his younger sister, of all people, that he couldn’t dance![break][break]

He didn’t want to royally fuck this up.

DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY

Wearing a light and fun summer outfit that consisted simply of a pair of khaki overalls, a white long-sleeve blouse, and some comfortable Adidas shoes, Adelaide happily took her brother by the arm and tugged him along. "C'mon, Lexy! You can't be that bad. Plus, if you can't have a good laugh or two while dancing you're doing something wrong!" She assured.

Meanwhile, the Delcatty known as Papaya trailed along behind them as they walked down the boulevard to the beach party just ahead. She stopped when she noticed a Glameow staring out at her from the window of a seashore house. It stared back rather nonchalantly for a moment.

When she finally had enough, Papaya stuck her chin up and sauntered off, flicking her tail.

“Look,” he began as he turned to face her. There was this… desperate look in his eyes that practically screamed ‘I am so fucking dead’ as he tried to explain himself to her.[break][break]

“The world taught me many things. Unfortunately… dancing wasn’t one of them!” he groaned as he then proceeded to hide his face in his hands. “I may know how to mix a drink or two and cook something edible so I don’t end up dying, but dancing? Are you kidding me? I have two left feet!”[break][break]

Arceus, he was never going to live this down either way. He wanted nothing more to sink into the ground, or turn into a mirage, or just plain shrivel up and die out of sheer embarrassment.[break][break]

“Look,” he tried once more as he attempted to collect his thoughts.[break][break]

“There—there’s this guy I know, and—and he’s one hell of a fantastic dancer. I… however, might end up stepping on his toes if I even tried to twirl him around a living room!” he went on a few moments later.[break][break]

Why were there some things that did not come naturally to him? Dancing was one. Swimming… was a whole other battle entirely. But he wasn’t going to reveal that. At least not yet, anyway.[break][break]

He was pretty certain she was going to ask him who said fantastic dancer was.

Adelaide listened to her brother's pleas and excuses as if she were listening to a toddler recount their 'scary' encounter with a squirrel. There was a noteworthy gleam of sincerity and understanding in her eyes but, for the most part, she found it all rather amusing. Thankfully, he wasn't resisting her as they drew closer and closer to the beach party.

When she heard him worrying about stepping on his special guy's toes, however, she just had to chime in again. "Even more reason to learn then, dummy! If we hadn't been apart for so long, I would have taught you a long time ago." She added, turning back ahead and humming with pleasure at the scent of the barbecue cooking just ahead. "Mmm! Doesn't this remind you of home, anyway? It's our first summer together since you moved away, let's make it one to remember!"

And, insistent as she was, the bubbly young girl tugged her brother into the party with Papaya following closely behind. If they kept their current trajectory, they would be at the center of the dance floor within moments. At which point the lass would let go of Alexei's hand and begin stepping to the beat of the booming music in the air.

“I can make you rice balls and mix a drink, but dancing, unfortunately, was not one of the things that I learned while I was working odd jobs here and there,” he conceded a few moments later as he sighed.

Looking down at Papaya, he gave the Delcatty his best impression of a ‘help me, she’s gone nuts’ look before making little protesting noises as he was literally herded towards the dance floor. Ah, hell, it felt like he was going into battle.

“Wa—wait!” he yelped, seeing that there was some summer-themed food and drink being served. Oh, man, he wanted to get some of the barbecue sticks that were being served, but—well, he was now in the middle of the dance floor, surrounded by loud music playing.

All he could do was silently gape at his younger sister who began to ‘cut a rug’ or ‘move and groove’ across the floor—he couldn’t understand how she could do it so easily without batting an eyelash.

How even?! He thought as he let out another protesting noise in Papaya’s direction, trying to ask the Delcatty for help (even if he knew this was futile in this instance).

Adelaide couldn't help but amusedly roll her eyes when her brother started coming up with excuses. Sure, he could make a darn good rice ball. And they had knocked back enough mojitos together to know he was an absolute artist at making them, too. But whatever was holding him back from giving dancing a good try needed to be dealt with!

The music only intensified as they drew closer onto the center of the dance floor on the beach. Which, of course, only made it easier to ignore his pleading. Something Papaya had long since begun doing, especially now as she groomed herself at the border between dance floor and barbecues. When Adelaide realized Alexei was too intent on continuing to silently ask the uncaring cat for help, however, she grabbed her brother by the arm again and drew him back. "Lexyyyy. Come on! Just do as I do at first, okay? A warm-up!"

She insisted, letting him go before proceeding with her instruction. "Just hold your hands behind your back like this and fold your arms back... then flap 'em LIKE A WINGULL while your feet step to the beat!" She added enthusiastically, sliding from left to right while she flapped her folded arms. The dance move managed to garner a bit of attention from some of the surrounding dancers, many who found it as ridiculous as it was oddly... cute.
