Abner was, for all intents and purposes, prepared to go out into the water by himself and seek out the loot in the waters that these recent pirates were leaving behind. Who didn't like going deep sea diving after all? But to do that, he'd need a boat, and he wasn't about to buy one.[break][break]

Unfortunately, Rocket wouldn't lend him one either.[break][break]

For that reason, he found himself at this woman's place. He gave her boat a once over before walking up toward the end of her boat's slip, the access dock, and peering over and into the boat.[break][break]

"...knock knock?"[break][break]

He had a few water pokemon with him just in case she had an opening that day, but he doubted it. Apparently she was popular with the locals ... or something.[break][break]

Being that he didn't have a door to knock on, he hoped he spoke loud enough for the woman to hear.[break][break]

Keeping a boat up and running was hard work.

Skyler cursed under her breath as she scrubbed viciously to remove the annoying golden glitter from the inside of her boat. For some reason her last clients had thought it a brilliant idea to celebrate their first boat ride with glitter. Glitter. Who even does that? Then they'd drank their full weight in champagne before promptly passing out.

At least they'd had the common decency of giving her some extra money -- and not snoring.

A sudden noise ripped her away from her wanderings. It was still morning, and she was sure she hadn't scheduled any boat trips for today. 'Maybe it's one of the dock guys?'

She threw the sponge into a bucket filled with golden glittering water and went to see who was calling. Her curly blond hair went every which way as she popped her head out of the cabin and saw the ridiculously good-looking man.

"G'morning. Do you need something?" Her words might've sounded a bit harsher than she'd intended them to, but that tended to happen when you spent most of your morning removing glitter from your precious boat.

For whatever reason, that had escaped the man. He decided to ignore that before moving on to answering the question she had posed to him.[break][break]

"I need a boat. And a captain. You lookin' for work today?"[break][break]

Her harsh tone was appreciated and Abner didn't take it personally. Matter of fact, he was glad to meet a woman who would cut to the chase much like he would. Just made things easier.[break][break]

Skyler blinked slowly at the guy's words. She looked briefly at the sky and noticed that she must've spent some time cleaning the cabin. She had gotten here at sunrise and it looked like it was mid-morning. No wonder her arms were aching.

Captain? Well, that... had a very nice ring to it. Captain Skyler Dross. She'd never been called a captain before, despite owning a boat and making business with it, so things were already looking up.

She hadn't, in fact, been looking for work today. There was still the glitter nightmare to deal with, but her workaholic nature shut her up before she could plainly say no.

"That depends. What are you looking for? Half day? Full day? Just cruising around, or something more specific?"

She couldn't help but be curious about this man who had appeared out of nowhere to ask for a boat and a captain. There were more vessels in the docks that could probably do what this guy wanted, but none of them were as good as Skyler. She knew these waters like the back of her hands.

The very fact that she knew the waters so well was exactly why Abner was talking to her and not to anybody else. It was actually thanks to marcel maeda's information on the woman, since he kept tabs on pretty well everything, that Abner was able to conclude that this blonde was decent despite her being six years his junior.[break][break]

Though Abner never put much stock in anything, namely age. He'd taken down Kanto with a bunch of teenagers back in the day, after all.[break][break]

"I'm treasure hunting."[break][break]

Although his tone sounded dull, he was grinning from ear to ear at the mention of 'something else in mind.' Looting pirate treasures was definitely something else in mind. And even better yet? Looting pirate treasures in Sea Mauville where he could also go gengar hunting.[break][break]

"Lookin' ta get somebody to take me out to Sea Mauville for a day of deep sea diving near a few wreckage points."[break][break]

"Treasure hunting," she breathed out, repeating the man's words.

Now the man was speaking her language. Skyler couldn't help the wild, wide smile that took over her mouth at those sweet, sweet words. Nowadays it was all 'Oh, we want to see the local Pokémon' or 'We want to have lunch on a deserted island' or the absolute worst that was 'We're on our honeymoon and we want a romantic cruise to see the sunset'. Gag her with a spoon.

She even leaned forward to hear what the man had to say, quicksilver eyes intense. Unfortunately for Skyler, the man completely wrecked her dreams when he mentioned Sea Mauville. The interest in her eyes died a painful death and she adopted the most neutral expression she could manage (which wasn't very neutral at all because she sucked at lying and poker).

He was, she thought, her perfect client -- if not for the choice of location.

Without meaning to, her hand went for her necklace, a simple string around her neck with a few colorful beads stuck in it. Sea Mauville had... a reputation among sailors, a very bad one. There were stories going around about the awful things that happened in that place - and Skyler, even practical as she was, wanted none of it.

"No." She didn't give him any reason why. Skyler knew there were a few sailors that would brave those waters, even if they weren't the best of the lot.

"I can refer you to other boats that'll take you there, if you'd like."

Abner's growled complaint replaced his otherwise grinning features. He was now glaring at the blonde like she'd insulted him. Which was very hard to do considering most insults that could ever be dished out to Abner were rubbed in his face quite frequently by marcel maeda. Sometimes priam conrad, but mostly Marcy.[break][break]

"You're the best sailor here, recommended by like everybody, and you're supposed to be the most fearless. So why not? The ocean closed for construction?"[break][break]

He nearly stepped on her vessel but... well, he wasn't about to broach that. He wanted her because she was the best and he wasn't about to just trust anybody to take him out into the ocean. He wanted a professional and as many water pokemon as possible by his side so that he didn't drown.[break][break]

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he's scared of the ocean.

It was like a dark cloud had passed over Skyler's face, the way her expression changed so suddenly at the man's words. Her eyes turned steely and she gritted her teeth. "No means no, do I need to explain it to you? Draw you a picture?" She growled out, not believing this guy's audacity.

Fortunately, she'd dealt with many entitled rich tourists this last summer, so this wasn't wholly unfamiliar territory to her.

Skyler exited her cabin, disliking the way he towered over her when she was down there. Arms crossed across her chest, Skyler gave the man a withering glare. "I know," she said, doing her best to remain calm. She fully knew why so many wanted to sail and dive with her, she didn't think there was any need to be humble about it. "But you're not getting on this boat. Not to Sea Mauville. Pick another location."

Her eyes didn't the miss his subtle movements, like he was a coiled spring, and she felt her own muscles tense in response. If he so much as put a single foot inside her boat, she thought to herself, no matter who he was, she'd tackle him -- or punch him. Or something.

She had done exactly the one thing that many would have told her wasn't a smart move. In her eyes, Abner could see it, there was a challenge. A challenge to test her. A challenge to do something so she could have an excuse to hurt him. So, like a good chaotic boy, he stepped into the boat and up to her. Being that he was six foot six inches tall, he definitely still towered over her a great deal.[break][break]

"What? You believe believe in ghost stories miss Dross?"[break][break]

He'd seen a pirate movie once where a guy with a big beard came up to a chick named Elizabeth Turner and told her she better start believing in ghost stories. This situation reminded him of that movie, and also reminded him he needed to see it again.[break][break]

Her eyes flashed when the man stepped into her boat, but before her mind was able to process what he was doing he was already in her face. Worse still, he was so tall he towered over her. Her five foot eight seemed almost puny next to the guy, which only served to piss her off even more.

She felt a storm brewing beneath her skin.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Her palms met with his chest and she put all her strength into shoving him the hell away from her. There were few things in her life as important to her as her boat and right now that asshole was threatening all of them.

"Do that kind of shit again and you'll become a ghost story," she all but growled at him, feeling the adrenaline shoot through her veins.

She had a harpoon gun in her cabin, she suddenly remembered. Very intimidating. Not that she would go that far, she thought, but she couldn't say she'd mind it if he, say, went overboard. She'd even help.

"Get the hell away from my boat, asshole."

Well he was definitely not going to get her to go to Sea Mauville, which was fabulous. He'd have to drag somebody else out there with him some other time. Maybe giada morgan, because she was down for pretty much anything he suggested most of the time.[break][break]

Although he could have ignored her pushing his chest, he did back up a bit. It was only when she pushed him away that he realized not all people liked their personal space invaded. He was immediately reminded of when he pulled Stormy Silph's hair and she got pissed. Right, people weren't like him, oops.[break][break]

"Look," Abner's hands raise in surrender as he steps off the boat. "We'll change the location, to wherever you think there's treasure."[break][break]

Guess what? He's still shit at apologizing, and it shows in how he tries to just change the subject. Anybody who knew him well enough knew that was his way of apologizing.[break][break]

"If not, I'll pay somebody else. But I did plan on paying a full day's work up front, whether I stay out the full day or not."

The man certainly changed his tune pretty quickly, Skyler thought, watching sharply as he backed off and stepped away from her boat. As soon as he did it, some of the tension in her was released. Not all of it though.

The promise was dangling there, right in front of her. Treasure hunting. Skyler remembered the past month of giggling couples, obnoxious families and wannabe divers who thought they knew better than her -- and suddenly the guy before her didn't seem so bad.

She could always throw him overboard if he pissed her off too much.

Skyler closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose in an exasperated matter. "Full day of treasure hunting, you say?" She did her best to disguise the yearning in her voice, but she knew it was a hopeless cause. "It'll cost you, but since you know of me you probably know my prices too."

There was a moment of silence on her part as she thought about his proposal -- but deep inside she already knew her answer. If she didn't like risks she wouldn't have chosen this profession. "Well, hurry up and hop on. We'll need sunlight for this." She hoped he didn't get seasick.

"Get the fuck off my boat, get the fuck on my boat," Abner parroted her before getting on the boat as she asked and quickly pushing an envelope of cash into her arms. "You really know how to give a guy mixed signals, eh?"[break][break]

It'd pay for the whole day, and then some. Something about tips. Abner didn't know he'd just heard that people who do services for you like tips. Little did he know there was a difference between delivery services and boat captains... eh, details.[break][break]

Who'd say no to extra money, though? Like, really??

Skyler accepted the envelope and peered inside, one eyebrow going up at the amount in there. She quickly put it away before shrugging at the man's words. "You're paying for a whole day up front and you can't possibly be worse than some of my clients. Honeymooners." She shuddered. 'And we aren't going to Sea Mauville,' she added in her mind.

She got to work immediately, checking all the needed equipment, including the diving gear, and getting the boat ready for departure with practised efficiency. The cabin, unfortunately, was still filled with glitter -- but she could always clean it later.

"Plus," she said, starting the motor and feeling a small thrill as it purred under her feet, "what's life without a little risk?"

Skyler pointed at the cabin down below, her voice all business, "You can leave your things in there. I'd recommend it, actually. We're going fast once we leave the docks." There was a pause. "Ignore the glitter please."
