[attr="class","lance i"]dinner next week will have to wait, as he involves himself with something a bit more dangerous. on a warm monday, he finds himself stranded on a deserted island with nothing on him but his pokemon. his main goal for the entire week: survive.

he supposes being here without his phone could be considered risky. but the rangers had approved it, and should things go wrong, he could always fly off the island.

so he remains calm, collected, and even a bit excited. all of those feelings remain the same even when he sees another stranded person. he approaches with a soft smile on his face.

"it might not be sinnoh, but you got your vacation after all."

"I didn't think that's what you meant when you mentioned dinner, you know?"

A smile touches Kat's lips when she finally sees Lance. She couldn't think of a better person to spend a week with on a deserted island. She wasn't entirely alone, as two small pokemon kept her company. The first being a shy Castform who hid away from Lance, shielding himself behind one of his trainer's arms. The other, a Phantump who was delighted to meet someone new.

Frankly, she felt like a madwoman agreeing to do this. It was way too hot and it made her uncomfortable. The scorching sun was unforgiving, especially during the summer.

Luckily, Castform was kind enough to grace the immediate area with a light HAIL, causing snow to descend from the skies when it was least meant to.

"But you have a point, this is still a vacation. And the beach here does look amazing. Do you know if it's safe to swim here?"

[attr="class","lance i"]the sight of her pokemon makes his smile grow wider. he offers them a friendly wave, and when he sees the shy castform, his posture shifts slightly lower to appear less intimidating. he extends a hand out and greets the phantump in the mean time, but he's more keen on trying to befriend the castform.

"is that your way of asking me to swim with you?"

his attention is drawn up at the falling snow and the sight of it, however odd, makes him smile. he never would have thought a snowing beach could look so beautiful. his gaze falls back to her, remembering her question.

"yes, it's safe, and yes, i'll swim with you."

Castform sticks to where he felt most comfortable despite Lance's efforts. He liked the comfort of dealing only with people he was familiar with: which was only Katherine, sadly. Phantump, on the other hand, is the happiest ghost in this world. Each time he sees something new, he shrieks from excitement and smiles widely.

And that includes meeting Lance for the first time.

A cry of happiness escapes from the ghost-type's mouth before he bumps his head against the offered hand, a strange attempt at having himself patted.

"Maybe it is." She won't admit it, but it was. Willow's antics cause her to chuckle and act as a short distraction.

"You should really lose your shirt. You look better without it." Her advice comes only after she takes off her own shirt. There's not even a single moment of delay or hesitation, as Katherine doesn't wait for Lance to get ready. Instead, she rushes towards the shore to get into the water.

He had to be quick if he wanted to match her speed.

there's no need to wait for him to get ready when he's right behind her. his shirt is tugged off, discarded on the sand along with a couple of pokeballs. he slows a little, just enough to allow her to roam a bit further. he looks on, admiring, before joining her in the water.

the water, along with the snow, cools him against the heat of the sun. he wastes no time to plunge into the water, diving for moments before appearing close to her. they edge deeper and deeper until the waves threaten to swallow them. there, he reaches out for her, wanting to pull her close.

"you don't look so bad shirtless yourself."

The water feels cool and almost chilly when the first wave crushes against Katherine. Castform's presence maintains the HAIL even inside the water, offering some protection against the sun's harsh heat. It was perfect. They had both the sun to enjoy and a temperature that belonged to a different season of the year.

Willow and Atmos have Kat's attention for the briefest of moments before Lance steals it.

"You think so?" She asks, batting her eyelashes as if this were news to her. "And there I was thinking that we're here together because you like my personality."

[attr="class","lance i"]it's such an odd sensation to be in cool waters while the sun is shining down on them. even more odd that the HAIL continues to fall down around them, causing small splashes as it plunges into the water.

"i can be here for more than one reason." the retort is short, simple, and he's smirking when he says it. "i agreed to spend a week here with you, after all."

Her answer to his question comes in the shape of a slow nod.

"I think we'll find a way to keep ourselves busy, yeah." Katherine was confident it couldn't be too hard, not with Lance by her side. Her arms naturally find themselves wrapping around his neck, pulling him down closer until her lips can reach his.

The kiss they share alludes to the way she imagined they could spend their week together. It's slow, almost as if the sea itself synchs and matches their pace. It wasn't the ideal, icy vacation Kat pictured to herself in Snowpoint, but perhaps that was a good thing.

[attr="class","lance i"]despite knowing very little of the island and what problems it may hold, he knows they can make it. her confidence, along with the kiss, tell him as much. he relishes the softness of her lips, almost disappointed when they break away.

"i agree."

both hands settle on her hip, holding her close as he tears his gaze away from her, if only for a few moments, to peer towards the beach. "we'll have to set up camp eventually." but that can wait, surely.

"eventually."

his attention returns to its rightful place, and he raises a hand to gently brush strands of hair away from her cheek. there's no hesitation in way he pulls her close to kiss her again.

Kat agrees, knowing that they were in no rush. And even if there was reason for them to be hasty, she appeared to be distracted by how close Lance was to her, how she felt secure between his hands, and his taste that lingered on her lips.

Their lips meet again, and the kiss is cut short by her when she takes a sudden step back and frees herself from him. Her expression wears a playful smirk, and she can't help but tease Lance a little by splashing water at him. Willow, who craved attention as well, joins the game and splashes water along with his trainer.

"You know, you look much better with your hair wet."

And just to reinforce her statement, Katherine splashes more water at his face.

[attr="class","lance i"]a hand raises to defend himself from the splash of water, not well, but enough to keep his eyes safe. he chuckles, mimicking her smirk, before reaching down for the two pokeballs on his belt.

rotta is definitely the more active out of the two that appear. the little rattata wades in the water, paddling with his short legs. he does his best to stay afloat, and the sight has lance smiling. on the other end of the scale is jelmo, who simply floats atop the water like a rubber duck in a bathtub.

she splashes more water at his face and his hand does little to shield himself this time. parts of his hair wets, and he's already reaching down to retaliate with a splash of his own.

"you don't want to start this war, kat."

"Oh, really?"

She asks with a quirked brow, half expecting another warning to come. "Why? Do you think you're too much for me to handle?" The second question comes just as Katherine looks down at the water, contemplating whether if she should retreat for now.

However, she chooses not to.

"I am pretty sure we'll win this war." And much like him, she wasn't fighting by herself. Willow joined the party without her having to ask, but Atmos is encouraged to aid her with a quiet whisper. The normal-type doesn't seem very convinced until his face is hit with a splash of water as well.

The three of them work together as a united force– it seemed like lance's threat happened to fall on deaf ears.

okay. somehow, she's able to see through him and call his bluff, because the two pokemon he calls out are useless. rotta is too small to do anything but flail in the water to literally not drown, and jelmo is too calm to ever partake in anything like this.

"rotta! do something!"

her united force overwhelms him. but instead of falling backwards into the water, he decides to brace himself through the torrents, and takes a step forward. and another. and another. until he's close enough to her to attempt to playfully tackle her into the water with him.

if he's going down, then he'll bring her with him.

Frankly, she never expected him to just take these surges of water and brace through them. Katherine realizes what was Lance's plan too late, when he is but a step away from reaching her.

"I am warning you, Lance-"

It's too late.
His body meets hers in a soft tackle and she falls backward into the water, with Lance right after her. If it wasn't for the fact they were underneath the water, it would have most likely made her chuckle or smile.

Willow seemed to have completely forgotten about his trainer when she disappears from his sight and instead shifts his focus to the Porygon. The ghost-type begins to levitate around the duck, spinning endlessly as he cheers for the already finished battle.

Katherine and Lance eventually do make their return to the surface, and she makes no attempt to move away from the ranger or engage in another battle.

"I didn't take you for a sore loser, Lance. What else are you hiding from me?"
