For a moment, he was slightly afraid that, somehow, they would insist on whatever they were doing.

Because he couldn't actually follow through on his implied threat. Anymore force than he had already exerted would mean just... killing them.

He would just have to take Yuina and run then.

But, fortunately— they dipped. No words, no ominous warnings, they just dipped right out of view, leaving the two of them to clean up the mess left in their wake.

A moment of silent passed before Doug finally released a relieved sigh, his hand slipping the gun back into its holster before he turned to Yuina.

There was a blazing fire raging in the background, but he paid it no heed, walking closer to Yuina before dropping on his bum in front of her.

There were a lot of questions in his mind then. What were the Drk Triad doing burning rocket bases? Why were they after Yuina? When did she learn to use a sword?

But there was a top priority.

"You okay?"

"Roger that!" Doug said, grabbing onto Maverick's hand before reaching over for Tiamat.

The Moon did not appear to get any closer, but the rushing cold air, the widening gap—

Perhaps because it was old, whatever breaking systems the elevator had no longer worked... because it reached the very end of the shaft at top speed, tearing right off its rails and sending them all and the platform flying into the air.

Hopefully, Tiamat would manage to keep them all from falling back unto the sand.

In the meanwhile, while high in the air, they would all get a perfect view of the absolute madness going down below.

They had been dumped by the elevator into what could be tentatively called an altar. And around that altar, a proper war appeared to be going down.

Large, muscular bugs, and tall, thin and fast bugs attempted to end one another's existence with extreme prejudice all around, multiple clashes spreading out around the area.

"Aw, shit."

by the end, everyone may capture one PHEROMOSA or BUZZWOLE (one or the other, not both).

His jaw clamped together, pupils narrowing to dots as he pinned the men down with a furious glower.

Stupidest choice of words that could've been spoken then.

"Wrong choice."

A pink haze burst out from the young doctor, expanding to encompass the general terrain around them.

And as it did, all within it seemed to slow to a crawl.

All except for Doug himself. His hand moved sharply, snatching the gun on his shoulder holster and—

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang—

Bullets flew. Holes were punctured into thighs and femurs.

With a click, the handgun's magazine came off, landing on the ground beneath.

And so, as quickly as it had come, the pink haze receded back into Doug. Those formerly trappped within it regained their speed— whatever that was worth now.

"Let's try this again." The doctor said, pulling out a new catridge before sliding it into place. "Go. Before I lose my patience."

doug can call upon a special PSYCHIC TERRAIN from himself at any time, without using a pokemon.
doug can exert his powers LOWERING THE SPEED of every pokemon (every living thing) within his PSYCHIC TERRAIN. this affects all pokemon except TAPU LELE and lasts as long as they remain in the terrain.

His foot slid between one unfortunate ninja's legs, before his hand came like a guillotine, catching the man's jaw before the rest of the motion swung him to the hard ground violently.

Without looking down, the young soldier stomped the man's neck with his heel, his eyes fleeting back to Yuina to make sure she was well— damn, was that a sword?— before turning back to the danger around him.

There wasn't nearly as much hesitance in his movements now as when he fought rockets— even unknown grunts— he realized. Part of him wasn't quite treating these Drk Triads as 'people'.

Though looking back down, it didn't seem like it was enough for him to kill them without hesitation. Speaking of killing, though—

He dropped low to the ground as a blast of hidden power came, releasing a sharp whistle as his chest hit the unconscious ninja below him.

His Araquanid crouched low before leaping high, all 6 of its limbs coating themselves in flowing blades of water before it began jabbing violently around its trainer and Yuina, keeping Unown and ninja's alike at bay, however briefly.

Pushing to his knees with a single hand, his fist glowed against the grassy soil, before glowing pink scales came bursting out of the ground around them enmasse, attaching themselves to the Drk Triad agents— as well as Yuina and her pokemon.

One group could feel themselves be all but poisoned. The other would feel a soothing, healing touch.

"Killing me's above yer paygrade, lads. If anyone wants to run, now's the time."

It was a child. Crap. They looked like like they had been in a hell of a mess, too. Double crap. And... they knew him...?

He stared, wide eyed. Who...?

Oh. OH! OH MY GOD!

"Lucia?" He asked, taking a step forward before dropping to a knee in front of her.

Now he could see that she had been crying too, on top of, you know... the fact that her clothes were singed. The fact that she looked otherwise unharmed brought little peace to his heart.

For a moment, he was about to become the very thing a child feared more than danger— a hyper concerned adult. But... he sighed instead, listening to her explanation before taking a deep breath.

"Yup, it me." He said wryly.

His hand moved to her hair, helping her take all the twigs and branches out as he looked her over.

Ah, nostalgia. He remembered when Hideo Kino and Eris Halla were that small, almost like it was yesterday... Because it was.

"So... you were pokemon catching. Huh! All alone, in a place like this?" He asked, smiling. "That's really brave of you."

He lightly tilted his head.

"But you know... it's very dangerous to do it alone." He said. "What if you got hurt and there was no one to help?"

He took that moment look her over, making it obvious.

"Speaking of which... are you hurt?" He asked, smiling at her encouragingly as he lightly turned to show her the blissey patch on his shoulder. 'MEDIC CORPS'. "I'm a doctor, so I can help if so. Your pokemon too!"

Doug didn't know which of them they needed alive.

But be it killing or kidnapping, both were unforgiveable.

Specially were Yuina was concerned.

"Yeah? Well." He said, raising a finger gun towards the speaker. "I've no orders to take any prisoners."

A blast of pink flew off the youth's hand, soaring straight into the ninja's chest.

doug can use tapu lele’s ability to spread magical healing scales for himself, others, and pokemon. Overexposure to these scales can temporarily OVERHEAL a target, applying the CURSE effect which deals increased damage over time.

Doug's Araquanid lunged suddenly, it's spindly legs shooting like spears towards the Unknown doing laps around them, trying to impale them right out of the air.

"We're fighting our way out!" Doug said to Yuina, his other hand sliding over to hers. "Avoid their Unknown's hidden power and take them out! These guys speak a big game, but that's all— they ain't much without their top brass."

Just like rocket.

He only realized something was wrong when he saw the shock painted on Yuina's face.

But that was only him— Kumon's long, spindly limb shot out towards the strange, white haired man and his dangerous floating eyeball in an instant, attempting to skewer them where they stood.

The man proved surprisingly agile, however, dodging underneath the limb before leaping back and away from the spider's range, the unknown with him followning.

Doug didn't pay them much mind— not when there seemed to be a lot more of them to keep him and Yuina both busy, surrounding them on all sides...

"This is embarrassing." Doug muttered as he slid closer to Yuina, moving to cover her back. "Been a while since I've let myself get ambushed."

Perhaps he should have followed his own advice and focused on the damn job.

He hadn't noticed yet Yuina's alarm— though perhaps he would've have made much out of it even if he had. Teleporting ninjas were not exactly a common day occurrence, even in Hoenn— specially for non-avatars.

"Can I help ya with anythin', gentlemen? I don't believe I've business with yer bunch."

"Let's hope that none of them decided to linger, then."

He would rather face rocket grunts than Paradox pokemon.

He dismounted Centos shortly after Yuina, grass crunching beneath his heel as he landed in a low crouch, hand reaching beneath his pit for a pokeball.

"Right-o. Let's get this mess proper sorted, then. Kumon!" He reeled back before throwing his net ball, releasing an Araquanid unto the field.

"Yuina, Kumon. Kumon, Yuina." He said, introducing them to one another as he reached into the massive arachnid's water bubble to scratch beneath its jaws playfully. "We're on fire fighter duty today, love. Mind giving a hand?"

The spider made a sound that was not of this earth, but which sounded relatively friendly, as she turned towards the plume, prompting a smile from Doug as he pet her, the youth turning towards Yuina again.

"Atta girl. Shall we, th—?"

The air behind Doug and his spider twisted and turned as he spoke to Yuina.

Doug's tension seemed to return as he followed Yuina's gaze to the plume in the distance, his jaw tensing.

"Right. But that doesn't mean we're the only ones down'ere."

For all they knew, some rocket hating civilian was running with a gallon of gasoline in one hand and a match in the other. Hoenn's locals were well known for taking matters into their own hands after all, government orders be damned.

Still... something didn't feel quite right to him. He crossed his arms over his chest, frowning briefly before leaing his chin atop Yuina's shoulder, speaking softly.

"Stick close, okay?" He asked of her, the tugging of his gloves going out of her sight. "If we're lucky, someone will have done our job for us."

He frowned.

"I'm never lucky, tho. Be ready."

"We best." He said, just a little too smug. Just a little too haughty.

At least, until he felt her lean back against him.

He tensed up when that happened.

His muscles seemed to coil into themselves and grow taut as her back was leaned across his chest, their eyes meeting as she spoke at him ever so sweetly.

"Cade—?"

Goosebumps rose along his arms as mysterious words were thrown at him, a bead of cold sweat rolling down his neck as he slowly blinked at her.

".... What?" He blurted out, confused and not a little disturbed. "What?"

"Cade—EEEET!" He screamed, arms pinwheeling as the sword of iron leapt forth into the chasm, throwing them forth into their adventure.

He gave his mentor a wry look.

"That's pretty impressive— but then I would have nothing to do!" He said with a laugh.

He had no doubts Thomas' had trained all of his Audino to deliver some of the best care in hoenn— but if they were doing the healing and he was doing nothing, then surely he should move elsewhere to actually do something?

He held up v-sign at at the Rotom as it began filming, grinning its way before turning his gaze back to Thomas. "Ya didn't answer answer my question before. Any ideas on what the league— er, what we'll find in this hole?"

"Your loss." He said, pointedly slipping it into his belt for later use...

At Isaac's question, Doug leaned over the bench he had been sleeping on, reaching over it to grab something... before plopping it down between himself and Isaac rather unceremoniously.

It was a gallon of rarely seen nowadays, ancient method of fueling that society had long abandoned for its many harmful effects and precious little utility in a world were rats generated electricity by sneezing.

Gasoline.

"Rocket has commited the grave mistake of making their stations flammable." Doug informed the other man with a gleam in his eye that was totally hinged. "So you know— we'll make 'em regret that."

He crouched besides the map once again, plucking his knife off the effigy of the enemy— before dragging it along the paper to another purple dot, then another.

"There's 2 others, each further down the chasm." He said. "We're gonna be burnin' all of 'em."

He paused.

"There might be some resistance." He said, pursing his lips before snorting. "But I mean... it's us."

What were they gonna do, NOT get stomped by the 2 avatars? lol.

He flicked Yuina in the nose halfway through her self-defeating spiel.

"Says who?" He asked bluntly.

There was a limit to how long he could watch a friend tear themselves down before he slapped them and set them right. His friends would not be harmed— even by themselves.

"Listen hard, and listen well, cadet." He said. "I don't know any other 'you'. I only know you. Yuina Higashi."

His hands fell back to his hips as he gave her a bright grin.

"And I am glad. Glad and Happy I met Yuina Higashi. Happy I met you. So does everyone that's gotten to know you in the past year." He said. "And so does everyone whom Yuina Higashi, ranger and volunteer, has helped in this crazy, mad place we call Hoenn."

He lips pursed, head craning back as he squinted at her and huffed.

"I can't fault you for wanting to know your past— I can't say I understand, but I can empathize nonetheless. And I'll help you all the way, no questions asked... BUT." " He raised a hand, pointing it at Yuina's nose and poking gently. "I won't hear any slander about you— even from yourself."

He grinned, winking.

"Keep it up and I'll make ya run a dozen more miles, cadet."
