flames licked the air that begun to OVERHEAT despite the thickening SANDSTORM. still, uri persisted, because this was nothing unfamiliar to him either.

as he approached the burglars, he drew another pokeball, calling out bob the perrserker.

"slateport pd! hands in the air, now!"

months of training had led up to this moment. now, in the face of adversity, was a chance to prove himself. no longer was he just a screwup, bound to his surname and all that came with it.

his hand slapped against his belt, calling out a pyroar.

"the claydol!"

kommo-o and pyroar charged in, flanking as they looked to dismantle the claydol.

meanwhile, uri tried bypassing it entirely, keen on getting to the burglars.

it was definitely easier said than done.

"peter! back logi up!"

the kommo-o nodded, and uri was surprised that she knew his nickname for her. the dragon-type followed closely behind, charging through the doors to the bank with ease.

the humans follow in shortly after.

what would they find?

the alarm from inside the bank sounded, which meant they had failed to keep watch. but had they really? even if he was distracted, he made sure to keep a careful watch over their surroundings, and he was certain he didn't see anyone shifty go in.

so did they TELEPORT in?

"we gotta go."

the playfulness in his voice disappeared as he looked back to sol before taking off into a run.

uri does expect it, and in any other situation he might've said something different, but because they're on a mission, he decides to be somewhat professional even if no one could hear them. probably.

"hmm. maybe you can tell me after this mission."

the mission — something feels off but in typical uri fashion, he doesn't quite notice it until it's too late.

he could've asked, sure, but would something have come from it? even now, he's not entirely too sure. probably not, knowing her.

but she is impressed, and the smugness on his face shows in response.

"oh."

his attention shifts to her, distracted briefly.

"why do you miss it?"

"i read a bit about them to try and impress you, but i also really wanted to learn more about you and the things you like."

did it pay off? he could only wonder, but her surprise is a good sign.

he ponders her question for a moment, pausing as he looks back at the main building.

"yeah, i think so. i'm fun to go on missions with."

"i read a little bit about them. they're neither gods or mortals, right? i think they're giants, or something."

appreciating the fact that she shared, he offers her a warm smile, genuine as usual.

and then he continues keeping watch, remaining vigilant.

"do you miss doing missions together?"

"they are?"

he's joking, clearly, because he had taken the time to look up some of their names just because he wanted to be able to properly pronounce them as well as talk to her about them should it ever come up. so far, it hasn't, but the knowledge is still there, ready to be used.

shameless as ever, he does the same to her, admiring her outfit with a smirk.

"true, true. i just missed seeing you in it."

but the conversation moves along, leaving peter behind. quite literally, too, as the dragon-type turns to regard the almost huffing houndoom.

"thanks. i think it fits me really well."

he smirks the same way he always does, confident as ever.

"you don't look too bad in yours either, cap."

it really does feel like forever, but there is a sense of comfort and familiarity that comes with doing a mission again with her.

it's almost second nature.

"what, her?"

he looks at the kommo-o next to him.

"the bank requested for a dragon-type specifically. no idea why."

they're just like any other pokemon, except they look big and strong. so maybe that's why?

he shrugs, bringing a hand up to wipe some dust off his sleek-looking officer uniform.

"i can't really say her name, though. i just call her peter."

oblivious to any concerns she might have even if he shouldn't be, he sighs, content as she plays with his hair.

his eyes close, and sleep soon takes him.

an end to a perfect evening.
