Not too far from the Pokémon Daycare is a grove.

And within this grove is a bamboo thicket, with the plants growing dangerously close together it’s easy to miss the entrance of the secret base altogether.

Just beyond the entrance should you find it, you will find an extremely menacing shiny Kingambit, the secret base’s guardian who will not allow anyone to pass unless they win a slicing firewood showdown with him.

Should you manage to win said showdown, he will step aside and grant you entry—while the place looks sparsely decorated with just a small fire pit just beyond where the Kingambit stands guard and a messy sleeping bag strewn off in one corner, there are flags upon flags upon flags of various Alolan make and design flanking one side of the bamboo thicket wall.

All of these flags are fake though. The real flag from this entire collection has a very cunning, minuscule star candy-shaped decoration on its top and an insignia local to Malie printed on one side of the cloth and a design that looks like a Tapu’s markings on the other.

The final encounter of the day was something that would definitely catch the Absol off-guard, as a green blur zoomed by, intent on Playing Rough with the Dark-type.

“Oh, there we go,” he chuckled quietly as the Absol snarled, hackles bared again as she swung her head-horn around in a Night Slash counterattack, forcing the green blur backwards that yowled—loudly.

“That’s interesting,” he hummed as the Sprigatito turned on a dime before charging forward with a Blizzard of Petals only to be met head-on with a Psychotic Cutting gesture from the Dark-type.

The two Pokémon exchanged blows—before a final Sucker Punch knocked the feline towards his feet, all exhausted.

“Nicely done,” he praised the Absol as he dropped the last Safari Ball on the strange feline’s head.

The Absol hackles were still raised after the previous encounter, however the next Pokémon—well, for lack of a better term—there was nothing else to it.

“Leave it,” he warned the Dark-type, who looked ready to strike at a moment’s notice. Clearly there was something that had set off her ‘attack everything on sight’ alarms, but he wasn’t sure what exactly it was…

Maybe whatever came after the Minccino would quell the angry beast stirring in his Absol’s mood?

What the hell? Wasn’t the fish cute enough? His brows knitted together as he sighed, because not everything could be won… but then…

He felt betrayed! He wanted to see the fish and know what that was up about!

~~Was this the coming of his darkness arc?~~

Unrepentant, unhesitating, he scrolled down to the bottom, and in a fit of anger chose the ‘abandon her to join the feline Pokémon’ choice—

He wanted the fish!

The next thing that came out from the undergrowth was one that literally attempted to catch the Absol off-guard… if Psychic-type attacks worked on her, that is!

As the burst of Extrasensory attempted to slash at the Absol’s horn, her glare whipped around and saw—the Roselia, who looked absolutely shocked (heh) to see that her attack had absolutely no effect on the other Pokémon…

To which the Absol retaliated with a powerful Night Slash, almost to the point that petals were severed from one of the Roselia’s ‘arms’. How… barbaric.

Jack observed quietly as the Absol hackles were full-mast once again while the dual-type attempted to go in for the Giga Drain, to which the Dark-type would deftly dodge out of the way and retaliate with a Psycho Cut attack, the burst of rainbow slashing energy catching the other Pokémon off-guard.

Once she’d been knocked back into a tree, he threw the next Safari Ball at the Roselia—who he hoped had learned her lesson about throwing a Psychic-type attack against a Dark-type Pokémon!

Thankfully the Absol hackles were now down, and the Dark-type sauntered past a Karrablast with absolutely no care in the world.

“Whoa, okay, hackles down and now you don’t care?” he chuckled as he followed behind her, watching from the corner of his eye as the Karrablast disappeared into the underbush.

He had a feeling the next Pokémon they were going to encounter was one that they were definitely going to capture…

But that was just him. Then again, who knew?!

So he’d gotten his attention stolen away from his phone because Lis the Wooloo had decided to cause mayhem, which caused him to skip one round—oh, whoops!

“What?” he blinked as he finally managed to restore order some time later and saw that they’d moved to another… huh. Aw.

Dang it.

There were four choices now, however the one that had his attention, hilariously, was…

Thankfully the next one was—well, Cordy’s hackles were still raised however she wasn’t going to charge at the hapless little thing floating on the updrafts.

“Leave it,” he told her, and the Absol scowled at him for a few moments, before nodding quietly and following him—the Flabébé floating away somewhere.

Maybe off to pollinate some flowers, who knows?

Right on cue something—fell out of a tree as they passed and he’d almost gotten a faceful of Milcery had he not heard the growling warning coming from Cordy as a sudden something (a Sucker Punch attack) whizzed past him, very nearly splitting a few hairs off from—

“Whoa, no need to be so violent—but then again that’s what you do best, right?” he began weakly as the Absol began growling once the surprised Milcery had been caught off-guard before letting off a flash-bang grenade’s equivalent of an attack in the form of a Dazzling Gleam!

He saw the blur of white shoot forward before pushing forward with a Night Slash, cutting off the second ‘incendiary’ Dazzling Gleam attack before he could so much as blink.

“Wow, Cord, no need to be so—violent,” he chuckled as he threw the first Safari Ball at the… aww, it looked like a pile of cream!

…only it was sentient and pretty much alive.

He’d realized something—

In order to survive out here he would need to acquire more Pokémon asides from Wooloo… and so he found himself out here at the Safari Zone.

Which was something he’d never seen before. Because there was nothing like this back home, for one thing!

And there were three Safari Balls provided to catch whatever they came across inside the place? He’d definitely look into this more often.

Once he was cleared through security it was time to search.

Thankfully the choice he made was the one chosen, and he stifled a laugh as the next part unfolded.

And then…

One of the choices made his eyes almost bug out of his head. He wanted to grab his tome and start writing in it but he had to stop himself.

Excitedly, he then selected the ‘SAPPHIRE’ option, specifically because it mentioned ‘two foreign Legendary Pokémon spotted within Hoenn’s borders’ and that definitely caught his attention.
