Callum didn't understand, like most things she said. There must have been some language barrier involved, wherever she was from spoke far differently than that which he was used. It was in the throes of this confusion that he suddenly found the smaller form wrapped around his own, his posture becoming rigid with unease.[break][break]

"What are you doing?" [break][break]

The words were direct, because he was naïve but not stupid. An embrace was the same no matter where you came from, but that was exactly what made this event both perturbing and perplexing.[break][break]

"We...aren't married..."[break][break]

Physical intimacy was reserved for spouses, something such as this would have gotten him whipped or worse back home. Eyes darted around to make sure no one was watching them, still unable to relax in her clutches.[break][break]

Callum didn't know what that meant, the confusion on his face evident. It took a few moment for him to work out what she meant, before shaking his head in response.[break][break]

"I don't really get cold. We're trained to be in the wilderness for days, weeks at a time." [break][break]

Regardless, he took the jacket off her hands. Holding it awkwardly at his side, unsure how to proceed. [break][break]

"I smell nice?"[break][break]

Callum grabbed the front of his tank top and lifted up to his nose, exposing his mid-section. As expected, it was muscular, clearly defined abs and littered with similar scars.[break][break]

"Sandalwood to blend in among the forest, lavender to mask the scent of the corpse." He explained, dropping the cloth back it's original position. Seemed rather rudimentary to him, but perhaps she wasn't aware of the utilitarian nature of his people.[break][break]

There was clear confusion in his tone, head canting to the side as she sidled up to him once more. Why did this girl want to be so close to him, was she cold?[break][break]

"I like to train, uh....I also like to clean and sharpen my weapons." [break][break]

Callum's features scrunched slightly, trying to remember other things he enjoyed. There was nothing, for as long as he could remember this craft had been his life. There was little time for fun and games when you could be killed any moment. [break][break]

"Here."[break][break]

He grabbed onto the edges of his sweater and lifted it over his head, handing the garment out awkwardly towards Juliet. Underneath he wore a black tank top, showing what had been hidden by his baggy jumper before. Callum was muscular, but lithe, ideal for someone of his occupation.[break][break]

A litany of scars littered his exposed flesh. Burns, cuts, punctures and other unidentified sources could be made out in the moonlight. Strangely enough, Callum didn't seem embarrassed by them.[break][break]

The blade carved through their flesh so effortlessly, separating the arm clean from their shoulder. Another swift stroke opened their throat, blood spewing violently outwards, splashing against the floor at his feet.[break][break]

A flick of the wrist freed drops of blood from the sword, advancing on their partner. The man scrambled backwards across the ground, attempting to pull free one of their Pokéballs for defense. A pointless effort in the face their enemy, thrusting the blade forward into their sternum, the light leaving their eyes.[break][break]

More.[break][break]

One last body to claim, the finale. Callum spun around, swinging his blade for the cowering form of the final Ranger, only to stop short at the sound of their voice. It sounded so distant, but the name they spoke was unmistakable.[break][break]

"Did you say Rowan Wrynn?" Callum's posture relaxed, letting his blade lower to his side. A hand raised to his ear, pressing the communicator down.[break][break]

"Connect me to Underboss Quinn. I have someone he'll want to meet."

Callum stepped forward, standing next to the woman at the edge of the docks. The smell of sea water was refreshing, something he hadn't experienced often in the landlocked region from which he came, it was refreshing.[break][break]

"Depth is the important part. Keeping them under the water long enough for the Pokémon to eat away their features and the current to wash away the evidence." [break][break]

A small kick knocked some debris into the water, slowly sinking down until it was no longer visible in the moonlight. [break][break]

"Once it decomposes, the gasses will force the body back to the surface."[break][break]

The question of his method of disposal remained unanswered, not wanting to disclose his modus operandi to a stranger. The last thing he needed were bodies being inexplicably tied to him.

Undoubtedly, that would make anyone's night considerably worse. Then again, Callum got the sense that the woman wasn't playing with a full deck of cards, so to speak.[break][break]

"Oh, me?" Tired eyes flicked to the water, moonlight bouncing off the surface of the calm surf. [break][break]

"I was dumping a body." [break][break]

There was no sense of irony in his tone, absent of any attempt at humor. It might be hard to believe that he was telling the truth, but she could gleam no indication that he was lying about his nocturnal activities.[break][break]

Under her arms, along her ribs, down her hips, behind her back and up the other side. He listened carefully to her words as he opened the jacket she wore, checking the lining for hidden dangers. Finally, he went underneath her breasts, an act that seemed to make him as uncomfortable as it might her.[break][break]

"Ryuzaki." An alias, a name belonging to a dead man he once knew. [break][break]

The blade lowered, sliding back into it's sheath inside of his baggy sleeve. Taking a step backward, he allowed her room to breathe, seemingly satisfied she wasn't a threat. [break][break]

"Sorry."[break][break]

He murmured, more out of courtesy than any actual regret for his actions.[break][break]

"Why are you out here alone at this hour?"

Callum gripped the blade tighter, moving the tip upwards until it rested just under her chin, eyes fixated intensely on her own. What were her intentions? She was difficult to read, betraying no clear motivation in the way she looked upon him.[break][break]

"Trouble doesn't tend to live long around me."[break][break]
Letting his guard down wasn't an option, assassins employed all kinds of techniques to lower the defenses of their prey. This could be nothing more than an act, designed to slip between the plates of his armor.[break][break]

The woman drew closer, too close. They were far too familiar with a stranger, engaging physical contact within moments of meeting. There was only a single reason Callum could fathom for their behavior.[break][break]

The sound of a blade ringing echoed through the night, drawn in a singular swift movement and thrust forward. The tip of his tanto pressed against her abdomen, applying pressure but not enough to break the skin, a warning to his potential predator.[break][break]

"Were you sent to kill me?"[break][break]

Wouldn't be the first time, and it wouldn't be the last. She'd mentioned helping him sleep, the only meaning he'd gleamed from that comment was rest of the permanent variety, the first place his mind went.

There would be a few moments of awkward silence before he turned towards the source, slightly bewildered, like a Wyrdeer caught in the headlights.[break][break]

The confusion was clear in his voice, shuffling ever so slightly closer to the stranger. Callum's movements were silent, almost as though he was a phantom, gliding across the pavement.[break][break]

"Do I know you?"[break][break]

His head cocked to the side, tired eyes searching her body from top to bottom, looking for evidence of weapons. The delicate skin encircling his eyes bore the marks of weariness and strain. Like a veil of darkness, the deep, purplish hue formed a stark contrast against his otherwise fair complexion.
