reese blinks. it takes a second for it to sink in that they're being chastised, but then a blush settles across their face. "um... r-right. sorry." their gardevoir looks between the two of them, confused at the sudden change in reese's demeanor. the former coordinator shrinks down into themself sheepishly. "d-do you want some help...? to make up for it, i mean."

he's never taken harsh criticism very well, but he's been worse at it ever since he started getting harassed online. even a few years after the worst of it was over, he still can't help but put on his best people pleaser mask to try and mitigate the damage. it doesn't even occur to him that lash might be overreacting, though his gardevoir seems a bit suspicious of the two, eyes narrowed.

reese takes out his phone. "next saturday... one moment." he taps his way through a couple screens before locating his work schedule for that week. "i have work from 9 to 2 pm. i can be in after that, if that's alright." he'll be a little tired after waiting on people for several hours with only one break in between, but all the same it's exciting to be given an early backstage pass to something. blossom is his only experience with dragon types, and she is admittedly... a bit abnormal, with how slow she is. getting more hands on experience might help in the long run, if he ends up with any other dragon types.

which is an odd thought, since he'd been planning to give up on his career as a contest star entirely. it's already been several years since he performed, but... he keeps collecting more pokemon. he doesn't know what he wants anymore. the spotlight terrifies him, but he craves it, all the same.

"we'll be your trial run," reese jokes before he can get too caught up in his head.

how the hell did reese end up running away to the one region that was on the brink of war?

he can grumble to himself all he likes, but he's here regardless. he might as well pitch in, even if he fully intends to keep himself out of the fight officially. the flooding in the area was vicious enough to claim many homes-- and force Elise Calcifet , his new roommate, out of her own home-- of not just people, but pokemon, too. as the waters started to recede, many found themselves beached or stranded on land, with no idea how to get back home. the sight of so many fish pokemon flopping around uselessly, too tired to make it back to the shoreline, is heartbreaking for reese to witness. he can only remember the marill he helped a while ago, wondering if it's still alright out there.

they're trawling the beach with their gardevoir now, looking to assist any pokemon who need to get back in the water. in doing so, they bump into someone. "oh-- i'm sorry," they apologize. "i wasn't looking where i was going."

reese starts to unload as well, though unfortunately for elise there isn't really a lot to unload. getting her bed through the door is going to be the hardest part, probably. "to be honest, i'm surprised there isn't someone else you'd rather room with," he says sheepishly, carrying what seems to be a box of books to the front door. carnation carries a smaller box in her arms, handling it delicately since she doesn't exactly have hands.

reese opens the door. before they can enter, though, an appletun toddles out, curious about the commotion. "blossom--" reese grunts, nearly tripping over her. the small dragon type has a way of getting underfoot thanks to her more oblivious nature.

the appletun doesn't care. she sticks her head in one of the boxes, eyeing its contents. reese gently nudges her away with a foot. "sorry. she's very nosy."

if you told reese months ago that he'd be living with one of the calcifets, he'd have told you to stop joking around. as it is now, he's still in a state of cheery disbelief. his previous roommate had moved out, and elise's home had unfortunately been flooded, so he'd been more than happy to offer a place to stay, however long she needed to stay for. it wasn't exactly the most extravagant living situation, but it was clean and out of the way in beautiful verdanturf.

the moving van pulls up, and reese greets elise as she exits the vehicle. "welcome to le château de reese," they joke nervously. their lurantis stands near, ready to receive anything she'll be capable of lifting. "and this is carnation-- she'll be helping us today." carnation gives a little bow as she's introduced, a spark of showmanship still in her despite the fact that she hasn't done a contest in years.

the front door is already open. without warning, a ribombee whirls out of it, flying up to elise and practically dancing in excitement before her. reese laughs. "how could i forget peach-- she was a gift from remiel, so she's... very happy you'll be here."

ah, backstage... it's been some time since reese was behind the scenes like this. he used to get such an adrenaline rush from the sheer chaos of it, but now he mostly just feels like he's in the way. he casts his eyes around, joining remiel in trying not to be a nuisance to the actors and stage crew who are attempting to clean up.

they perk up at remiel's invitation. "really? that would be... much appreciated," they say, not wanting to let on how exciting (and embarrassing) the offer is. they look to where their cutiefly and appletun are enjoying themselves with the other pokemon. "i'm sure they'll love that even more." reese smiles; that's the important part, of course. it means they can rejoin their old comrades, even if only for a few hours... and reese can enjoy the museum, of course. "we'll be sure to visit soon then."
