Trinity also ignored the Pokemon that began to reveal themselves. It would seem that her Zoroark’s leering gaze was keeping some of the weaker creatures at bay, making it much easier for theRocket to continue her investigation unbothered. Of course the moron on the boat had to hide a small treasure inside the biggest forest in the region. Although to his credit, it would be hard to give exact coordinates with Trinity’s fist in his face. For that the girl cursed herself. Being tormented to the ocean sun wasn’t an excuse to be reckless.

[break][break] “They’re fast.” The Rocket girl replied to her partner without looking up from the bush she was rummaging through. “Chaotic, sure. But something my current team lacks is speed. But my desire for a Rotom is more for their utility than their combat ability.” Trinity rose up to her full height with a groan, resting her hands on her now aching lower back. “Rotom could probably survey this whole forest ten times faster than we could. And they possess the unique ability to infiltrate and override any electricity based machinery. You’d be able to give their chaotic nature focus and make it work for us.” Trinity took a mental note that she was creating a stronger desire for Rotom and began to make a plan to find one once she acquired some free time. “A Pokemon’s usefulness is more than just their combat ability.” She added without breaking eye contact with Marguerite. After a long second, the edges of her mouth ticked upward into a rare, yet small, smile. “And how’ve you been settling in? Hoenn has some interesting ruins around. Have you looked into them?”

“Did you hear about what happened in Lilycove?” Trinity asked. Marg was right; this region was filled with weird occurrences. It was never boring, that was for sure. “Some Rotom got loose and started making everything go haywire. Wasn’t able to catch one though…” The girl’s tone trailed off, disappointment evident in her voice about the missed catch. Rotom were cool, and having one would have been useful. But compared to Petalburg Woods, that incident had been light.

[break][break] As the trees loomed over them, blocking out most light, Trinity couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched. It was heavy, like a weighted blanket thrown over her shoulders. It went well with the silence: quiet enough that the girl could swear she could hear the forest breathing. Like it was alive, and waiting… It didn’t stop Trinity from moving further. She had a job to do, after all.

[break][break] It was after one particularly tight squeeze through some trees did the Rocket girl finally notice a pair of eyes in the brush. No sooner had she seen them did their owner leap out at her! A Nuzleaf, swiftly striking at her head, burst forth from the shadows. She just barely ducked under it and, in the same motion, tossed a Pokeball out, releasing her Zoroark in a flash of light. The red and white Monster let out an air shattering roar, powerful enough to create a shockwave directed squarely at the Nuzleaf and sending it flying into a tree. Trinity rose to her full height from her mid-crouch and watched her attacker for a moment. “I’d like to find this thing, and fast. So be on the lookout for a red chest so we can get out of here.”

Trinity didn’t need to see Marguerite to know what the pirate woman was up to. This whole thing was her idea, after all. The blue haired Rocket knew that her partner would go along with her opening and support it in the best way possible. Trinity knew that no words would even need to be shared between them for her partner to be on the same page. Marg was dependable like that. It made her easy to get along with, despite her preferred method of travel being by sea.

[break][break] “Yes, maybe its hunt isn’t yet finished.” As Trinity spoke, what was visible of her shadow began to shift. She grew taller by about a foot, her head changing to a mass of undulating tendrils. Her arms morphed into something inhuman, claws replacing where her hands had been, long enough to see clearly even through the fog. Still, her voice remained unchanged. “As if waiting to reap the harvest of the seeds of fear it had sowed all that time ago…” Trinity’s tone changed, a snarling undercurrent rising through her words as her voice became more and more beastlike. “Until it had created the perfect bait to lure in… Its NEXT MEAL!” The girl’s voice had changed completely inhuman as she burst through the fog, finally revealing her snarling maw, filled with rows of razor sharp fangs as she towered over the recruits, using it's blood red claws to push the middle recruit to the ground. At the same time, Marg and her Clobblepus yanked their victims down to the bow, holding them just right so they could see the beastly form of a red and white Zoroark, positively glowing with its malice and bloodlust over the three recruits.

Trinity didn’t think shopping for a new PC would be so difficult… ASUS, Alienware, Republic of Gamers… There were too many brands to keep track of. And to make matters worse, computers were flying off of the shelves. Literally! The girl’s eyes darter around, following the tornado of computers and their parts as best as she could. She was trapped inside the appliance storm alongside her Cubone. The skull wearing Pokemon did its best to keep up with the tempest of Rotom, but Trinity could tell her younger Pokemon was starting to get dizzy.

[break][break] The last thing the girl wanted was to be trapped, surrounded by computer brands she didn’t even like. “Cubone! Fling!” She ordered as she pointed forward. Though, if she was being honest, she had a feeling her partner Pokemon was too dizzy to actually go the way she pointed. But the direction didn’t matter as long as it was out. Cubone, in response, hoisted its bone club into the air and began to flail the weapon around wildly as it dashed blindly forward into a shelf of Elgato capture cards, tossing the merchandise aside through the tornado of spare parts so Trinity could follow.

As Marguerite set her Dhelmise to weigh the ship in place, Trinity simply rested her elbows on the guard rail. She eyed the trio of newbies, fresh from recruitment, with a piercing stare. It was all an act of course. It was all the girl could do to keep from hurling over the rail. Doing so would be counteracting the point of this little voyage to Route 108. Once Marguerite was finished stabilizing the ship, the pirate turned and spoke to the girl.

[break][break] “Of my first mission?” Trinity echoed. “I’m not sure this group of Togepi are ready to hear about that.” Her tone was plain, matter-of-fact. As the words left her mouth, a fog bega to roll over the bow of the ship, slowly hiding the Rocket members from the watchful gaze of the stars above. Trinity, however, paid it no mind. As if the pea-soup-like obstruction didn’t even exist. “On my very first mission, two of my superiors took me and two other recruits out to Route 108. Covert, they said, so it had to be under the curtain of night.” She paused, giving the trio of newbies time to process the parallels between her story and their reality, the fog around them swirling gently around their heads


[break][break] “As we sailed into the night, a fog crept onto our ship, sending a chill down our spines. Before we knew it, the three of us had been separated from our leaders. Stranded, alone, on an island we didn’t remember seeing on our way out.” Trinity kept her voice level as the curtain of fog grew more dense. Soon, her and Marguerite would only be visible as shadows. “The island was silent, not even stirred by the sea breeze, still as a cemetery. The three of us weren’t ready for when it showed up.”

[break][break] “It picked us off one by one, chasing us through the island. The fog picking us out one by one, hunting us like we were game to be slaughtered. I was the one it decided to show mercy to, leaving me for last. …Though when I look back at it, its ‘mercy’ was merely some form of twisted joke. But it was then that the beast revealed itself, a form that was indescribable by human language.” It would be here that the fog would obstruct even the shadowy outlines of Trinity and Marguerite, the blue haired Rocket’s voice echoing without a body. ”I could taste its emotions in the air. Its malice. Its sadism. It’s hunger. But just when it was about to sink its fangs into me, the fog lifted and it disappeared without a trace. I know not why it allowed me to live that day. Maybe as a message, as if to tell me it could come back for me at any time. I cannot say. But what I can say is this: to this day, I still hear the bloodcurdling screams of my teammates whenever a fog comes into port, just as fresh as they were when they were dragged into the abyss.”

Trinity was silent for the most part after she reunited with Marguerite. The girl didn’t fare too well at sea, and it was a miracle that she kept her composure during her mission on Route 103. Once she had touched the sandy shore, Trinity had to hold back from kissing the very ground she now stood upon. She had a job to finish and she didn’t have the luxury of allowing her stomach to empty itself of its contents. Instead, Trinity simply motioned for Marguerite to follow her into the looming woods of Petalburg.

[break][break]The shade inside was a pleasant contrast to the overbearing ocean sun and allowed for just enough cover to avoid being watched. An oppressive silence filled the air, broken up only by the occasional cries of Pokemon. Once the blue haired Rocket was convinced that the pair hadn’t been followed, she turned to her partner.

[break][break] “My target was supposed to procure a valuable Pokemon for Team Rocket.” She started as she watched the pirate’s Capsakid wander the woods. “Something of a rare and elusive asset. But the only thing he told me was that it was in these damned woods before the fool passed out.” Trinity finished, leaving out the fact she’d tossed the man overboard once he lost consciousness. She turned and began to walk further into the woods, stopping to examine bush after prickly bush. “I didn’t think I’d need back up, though.” She continued, ignoring the small cuts forming on her fingers. “Or did you come out here for pleasure rather than business?”

"And what would you have me do?" Trinity looked at the civilian with little more than disdain in her eyes. She let the silence between her and her target hang heavy in the air for an eternal second. With the vastness of the sea surrounding them, the moment was dreadfully intimate. Even the usual comfort of waves lapping the boat’s hull was faded, repelled by the girl’s Basculin that circled the vessel ominously.

You declined the former, which means you must suffer the latter.” Trinity took a step forward, resulting in her shoe producing a click against the bow. “At least accept the consequences like a man, instead of groveling like a fool!”
