it's as deadpan as ever, and for a second he debates just how outrageous he can make it- and settles on that for now. as the sand shifts, he eyes the pokemon the man is standing on, tempted to point it out or capture the poor thing- if it isn't dead- but manages to tear their attention away.

"i hope so. kind of feels like hoenn's false advertising, when it gets this cold." it's a joke. mostly. aster still can't help but think back to the advertisements of hoenn as somewhere sunny and warm.

[attr="class","postbody"]yeah- from what aster could tell, a lot of the advice was the common knowledge stuff. they can't deny the way their tension, especially now that it's partially caused by the sinking realization that they may not have much of an article after all instead of the larger-than-usual pokemon surrounding them.

"and if you can't...? keep one out at a time, i mean." although, if he were being honest, the self-defense concerns were something he made note to bring up next. some pokemon would be too small to do any real lasting damage; at least to anyone determined enough to steal them, and there was always the risk of bigger, more terrifying pokemon to deal with.

honestly, though, he wants something a little more exciting article wise. something he can really work with.

learning to ride is...an option. not one he'd ever consider, considering his pokemon are on the smaller side, but he can't deny that it'd help.

[attr="class","postbody"] if the woman had an issue with his constant escape attempts, she didn’t say anything. or at least, she didn’t say anything that would make it obvious. he’s used to judgment (they’ve done it before, themself) and he’s sure that the silence that follows is nothing but. she starts to break it, when, from where aster’s standing, he can see the realization of what he’s said sink in.

whoops. he’s done pissed her off, and, honestly, if it weren’t so funny he probably would have felt a little guilt. in theory.

the closest thing to it sinks in once he realizes he’s more effectively trapped, especially with tiny Pokémon that won’t be able to do much. so he bites down any lingering amusement- and the urge to ask if this stranger has any sense of humor, because it was funny- and forced his most pathetic act.

“wait. i’m sorry. it was a bad joke, and I apologize.” somehow, they manage to keep a straight face when they say it. if only because they do really need the help.

once the chaos has (somewhat) died doing and aster thinks he can move without risking stepping on a cat, he looks up- just to see the source of the chaos, cats and all, standing behind an elderly old woman who looks like she may kill the poor cashier. or the source of the cats- they look like if they have to stand there a moment longer and hunt down their pokemon, they'll just keel over.

it's curiosity that brought aster out, but now he just regrets it. iris, a sableye who had somehow found his way into their apartment while aster was out, runs ahead as he hums a less family-friendly version of deck the halls to himself.

he doesn't realize he's approaching another person until the scream tail bounces into action- with the sun in his eyes, he had thought it was just a pair of oddly-shaped cacti. the sunlight harshens, suddenly, and iris is moving into action with a mean look directed to the little pink pokemon and its trainer.

"wait-" he fumbles for the pokeball, clicks the button to draw his purple companion back, and sighs. "sorry about that." he can't bring himself to sound too sorry- probably because the scream tail had tried to blind him- but it's better than nothing. probably.

"hi. by the way." because, with the attempted chaos that had occurred in the last few seconds, aster hadn't entirely registered that the other man had greeted him until it was too late. there's an unspoken question, wondering why he's here, but aster doesn't bring it up.

it's almost as bad as the shame that follows as soon as aster realizes everyone is staring at him. or almost everyone- there's a few people who have either decided to spare his feelings or that they don't care, and he's pretty sure he would die for them if they asked him to.

someone comes over, and he knows they mean well, reasonably, from their question. it's just shame that warms aster's face at what she says, and he pushes himself onto his feet like nothing had ever happened- and back to the safety of non-slick ground, which was the most important thing.

"i'm fine. it was worse than it looked." which still didn't do much in terms of him wanting to crawl into the ground, but it would be enough. "i was actually looking for a shop advertising a sale, if you know it? i don't remember the name, but it's for cookies, and from what i know it should be around here?"

is it a desperate attempt to try to get away from the topic of his fall? oh, absolutely, but he also does need to know where the shop is for sure if he ever comes back (unlikely, with the way he still feels like he could die).
