Evan offers her a smile, acknowledging the thank you but leaving it at that. He wasn't looking for anything like that anyway, just speaking what he had observed during their little conversation out here.

He doesn't get much of a chance to comment again before she's producing a pokemon he's never had the chance to own. Evan lowers the bird a little, not so much to risk dropping it but to allow the pink pokemon to do her thing. "Thank you, Poise has aqua ring but I wouldn't want to risk that conflicting with its typing." but he imagines that between his remedies and her pokemon the little bird should be fine once he gets it back to the Stray and can give it proper rest and TLC. He just wasn't exactly planning on doing this kind of thing today.

Once the pokemon is in its pokeball he turns back to his vaporeon and gives him a well deserve back scratch, the pokemon stretching out in response to the attention in a manner that implies he deserves this. Sometimes he really wonders about these eeveelutions.

"Personally I always thought the ground was a good enough bed to be honest, real beds are a bit odd." actually even now evan found himself sleeping on the floor sometimes because he simply could not get comfortable on a mattress. He was pretty sure it wasn't the mattress either because he tried buying a new one and hated every last one of them. "Probably just me though."

The Vaporeon slinks out from under his hand and he notices why shortly after, another pokemon approaches and the Vaporeon is, at this point, beyond aggravated. The way it stairs the fire turtle down makes him snap his fingers to keep him from going over board, instead the pokemon just stares it down with malice while they talk.

"It's not much, but if you're ever in Rustboro the Stray can give you a room in exchange for some help around the place, cleaning or repairs, nothing major just earning your keep." he can make her show up but he feels it would be inappropriate not to offer it. It would be in the spirit of the place's history to give her a room after all. Even if she doesn't stay in the town having a place you can rely on to be there when you need it to be can be a saving grace during your low points.

He would know.

"That it is." Evan thinks to himself that it is an abstract concept to him. It is an idea that comes naturally to most and in many ways he agrees and understands but has never truly experienced it for himself. No amount of invitations to family dinner tables he didn't actually belong to replaced the fact that few truly knew him and the only one her could consider family rarely acknowledged he existed.

He looks back down at the man at his bar, it's much easier to distract himself with the troubles of others. "And yet here you are, sitting at my bar instead of home."

The implication is obvious, and he leaves it at that.

"God-touched then."

It is spoken like a statement more than a response and he makes no move to comment further on the matter. It is a touchy subject he rarely treads upon. It is a term he does not hate but has no love for.

Evan nudges his liligant, a gesture at the berries encouraging her and the whimsicott to enjoy their share of the prizes. Meg certainly hasn't hesitated in indulging, evident by the munching that can be heard from bellow her disguise. He grins a little at her as she mentions her psychic type. He thinks of his own, namely the Musharna who has been with him most of his life.

"It's good that you can rely on them then, psychic types are fantastic to have around. They're some of the most versatile pokemon and their capabilities are fascinating. I'd like to meet your Hypno one day." especially if they help her in the capacity she is saying. He believes it, whole heartedly, but that doesn't make it any less interesting.

Evan has to think on her next inquiry a bit. It's a hard question to answer. It treads into places he does not like to go.

"It's." he starts, stops, thinks again. "Complicated."

There is a shift in the tenseness of his shoulders as he plucks a berry from his whimsicott's fluff and checks it over, taking a bite before he answers further, almost as if he is buying himself time. "My people are traditionally what you might call religious but my personal relationship with the gods is a bit of a" he mulls over his choice.

"You could call it a love-hate relationship of sorts. And that is why I do not consider myself devout."

"When it rains it pours, at least that's how the saying goes." he comments with a gentle chuckle. He's generally much more of an optimist but this was one of those things that rarely did anything but get worse before it got better.

Evan shakes his head, though he doesn't seem the type he watches the news closer than most think and he talks to more people than he seems to. "Nobody wants to admit that even with Rocket taken care of-" he doesn't like saying it, not really. He's skeptical because he knows how these things work better than he should. Even the snake that should have died when he changed his ways only did so after a slow painful death.

Where one head dies another always tries to rise, the question is whether or not it is successful.

Evan shakes his head because it's a train of though they do not need to tread down. "The reality is after something like that everyone wants to believe things are good again because pretending is safer than accepting that it's not. Facing reality is a hard thing to do. Even worse when it's something there is no easy answer for."

"You can't magically fix Kanto, it's going to be decades before it truly recovers from what was done to it and the world trade takes a blow that will last just as long. Maybe longer. Local trade can be helped but only within reason and once you run out of resources you run out. In some cases you might not have any at all. No one wants to face that reality because human beings have an innate need to have a certain degree of control over their surroundings, facing the fact they have none is terrifying because it rattles us at the very core of our being."

Evan watches their little bird friend, it's moments like these that he finds he misses his old way of life. Prior to owning The Stray he was fiercely independent and for the most part self-sustaining. He didn't have to interact with these kinds of things, not in this way. He misses the simplicity of it most days, how he didn't even have to worry about what time of day it was.

"As long as you continue to do what you can you are doing better than most Cait." he looks at her across the snow flurries. "Most choose to sit and ignore what's in front of them, you're facing it." it's obvious in his tone that he considers this admirable if nothing else.

"And even if you make a wrong decision here or there, it does not change the fact that you have the capacity to make them to begin with and that means you can learn to make better ones in the future." he does not seek to lecture her, his tone carries something else in it. Call it motherly, call it spiritual, call it whatever one pleases. To Evan it is just a reality being spread out on the table in front of him.

"Please, I'm always willing to help if I can." the implication is clear, he doesn't need to be thanked. He comes when he can and this time around here happened to have enough time to spare for the venture into Petalburg woods.

Evan notices the contrast in their demeanor on the subject almost instantly, while Orion seems greatly affected by the situation Evan seems unbothered. It's not that he doesn't worry at all, simply that he's quite certain they will have it taken care of in short order. "Don't worry so much Orion." he had written down the name and doodled the face when he got home- enough times for his name to come to mind. Though an odd behavior to most it allows Evan to remember what he wishes to better.

Red-black eyes wonder out into the foliage of the woods, he knows what lurks out there and what they can and should seek. "You'd be surprised how effective these kinds of remedies can be, pair it with proper treatment and sometimes it's exactly what a person needs."

The man doesn't look it but he's far better versed in such means than most, a large part of why he agreed to come and help the other with this. Not only have his own travels taught him much from every tribe and tradition he could find but his own people had several of their own they used and though he does not remember them directly from his childhood he knows of them well.

"I like to think I'm good with grass types, and this is a pretty simple remedy compared to what it could be calling for." he sounds sure of himself, there's a gentle certainty to his words that one might even find soothing given the circumstances. He could be stressing and fretting over the matter but instead the man is taking it in stride.

He turns to the man, "My own can supply some of the things we'll need but I haven't got a budew to rely on, I think that's the most important part that we'll have to hunt for out here."

Orion Lykos

The trek may very well have been further than he should be going, though the weather is holding out for him for the moment that doesn't mean it will for long and in evan's experience so far- bad luck has followed this winter.

Perhaps that is why he treads through the falls so lightly, his Blaziken at his side. The pokemon has been far more eager to get out than he would like. While the fire type has become quite the companion (something he never really anticipated) they've also been difficult to keep entertained. Sparring becoming a regular activity between the two and though it seems an important bonding measure for the pokemon even Evan has to admit- it's a little scary sometimes.

"This spot should do."

The area is clear enough, he and the Blaziken face each other. Spice is as eager as ever, and he's plenty willing to oblige.
