"Not much longer girl, gotta get outta the cold at some point." evan speaks through the cloth of the scarf but the a!ninetales at his side shouldn't have a hard time hearing him. She's simply excited to be out in the snow for a little while. She's been quite fond of it as they make their way through the path. He was out in the old town to check up on a couple that he imagines were having a hard time with the snow. He was pleasantly surprised to find the neighbors had already stepped up to the plate to make sure they were doing okay and where even offering them their guest room until the storms blew over. Satisfied that the old couple wouldn't need extra help for awhile he had left them his number before he left. Just in case.

The were headed back towards home and like always Evan insisted on doing it the hard way. At least part way. The snow was forcing him to realize he wasn't as prepare for it as he used to be. Well not prepared enough for easy travel. He knew how to take it slow and spend a week weathering out storms but with the constraints his current endeavors put on him it wasn't an option in the same way it used to be.

He squinted into the snow, the two of them had a ways to go to the nearest town. He was going to have to give in and get a ride the rest of the way back to Rustboro whether he liked it or not. For now though, he let the fox enjoy the weather, playing around in the snow piles as she kept up with him with ease.

before he can get an answer an interuption greater than any other shenanigan sweeps through the pass, billowing in through the windows and the hearth and Evan moves towards the nearest body he's comfortable with without thinking about it. The sudden flash of cold makes him shiver, looking down as if to tuck himself away into his oversized sweater and against Laurence Anderson. Not too close mind you, but close enough it's obvious he's chosen the other man as his shelter against the sudden chill. Slender fingers tap against a pokeball in the barely there space between the two of them and his Delphox emerges, puffing her chest with gusto.

"Mai, be a doll." he doesn't really have to ask it of her, the fox catches what the others are doing and follows along with ease. The mystical fire looking to take purchase within the hearth and leave it smoldering as it was before. Evan is watching her with a grin before he turns back to his conversation partner-realizing they are more face to face than they were before.

"I don't like the cold much." he can weather a storm better than most but that doesn't mean he has to like it. It's the only offer of an explanation he gives for the sudden closeness and he makes no motion to move away. In fact he seems to inch just a little bit closer instead.

His mind is on other things as he passes through the jagged pass, looking for a final pieces to a project that should keep him occupied while the storms keep him indoors. He needs something do so he doesnt go mad.

Evan has passed options by and not realized it because his mind is on a cup of cocoa.



Though he's not much for the sweetness of the drink he plans to make an exception here soon. A treat of sorts he's been planning for a short while and he's only pulled from the idea he's hung up on by the swarming frosslass. It's only barely but it he watches them with a curiosity that is not uncommon on him.

It is only as a passing gesture that he throws the pokeball, he needs to get back to his plan before the storms get too bad again.

He drops the subject, at least for now and Evan lets go of a breath he didn't realize he was holding onto so tight. His chest deflates and he's silently grateful because he is in no way ready to approach that subject with anyone. It's a heavy enough topic he won't even write about it let alone talk about it out loud.

Evan focuses back on the phone in his hands, trying not to look lars in the face again. He's uneasy about the idea of him looking at his eyes too much. He doesn't want to be but it eats at his mind like a ravenous pokemon, chipping away at his nerves. It's not because he expects anything in particular from him, it's just an innate avoidance.

"Hm?" he catches the words but is surprised Lars read between the lines and caught that he doesn't eat pizza. Most people assume by default that he does because most people do. Greasy food doesn't agree with him though. "No it's fine, I'm not really hungry." or rather there's a rising in his gut that he knows too well. The nausea doesn't go well with food he knows he won't really eat anyway.

He gets the feeling lars is trying though, perhaps because humans are highly social creatures, seeking comfort when things like this happen. There's a certain compulsion to seek out closeness and while Evan has always resisted it he feels bad for denying Lars outright. Besides, he shouldn't be alone right now either. Nibbling on pizza and talking is far better than spiraling over his own thoughts on what happened.

"I'll nibble on whatever you get, if that helps." when his eyes look up at him they're searching lars' face for a hint of acceptance. If he'll take that Evan will put up with his stomach being a little unhappy later and stick around. But his eyes tell tales that aren't normally seen, an odd mix of worry and uncertainty, but concern overrules those feelings. Focusing on lars means he doesn't have to focus on himself.

Evan crosses his feet together under the bench, something to keep him from fidgeting or otherwise trying to curl up on it despite the chill. He can't help himself, the setting changes how he feels drastically, seeing a face he's familiar with makes him more so. Normally the man is as poise and stoic as can be but the moment he feels like he can relax he has to resist the urge to curls his knees into his chest. The coffee on his lap helps so he leaves it there.

"Shot in the dark, I figured most people like caramel." it's a popular choice after all. He thinks lars is trying a little too hard to explain his preference though and it makes him chuckle into his scarf. He sort of forgets to mention he was expecting to give it to a face he didn't know too, because at this point he'd rather just act like he was meeting Lars the whole time. "I prefer mine black too- if I'm going to drink it. Not really used to having a lot of sugar." which usually comes as a surprise to people, he's used to a very straightforward life style and diet and his body has never been used to such things.

"Though maybe you should run out of gel more often." his smile says that yes, it did indeed amuse him.

Not wanting their conversation to stagnate, Evan brings the coffee he had gotten for himself to his lips, (realizing that since it was black, maybe he should at least share it with lars a little bit. later. He wouldn't drink the whole thing anyway.) speaking over the rim of the cup "What are you doing out this way anyway? Especially all dressed up." he looked like he was headed somewhere far more formal than a walk in the park. Unlike Evan, who had just tried to look nice and stay warm. Because he still hasn't made the connection yet.

That was a little more like it. Not that he wasn't up for a serious conversation now and again because lengthy and true discussion was just as compelling. There were a few hitches on the route they were on. Mostly because while Evan didn't really believe in keeping up appearances he accepted he had to avoid certain topics at work for the sake of civility. Not that he wouldn't stand up for larger breeches of human decency (he had, more than once) but talks about personal opinions on human nature got dicey real fast.

Lars didn't really need to know how much of a pessimist and skeptic he was deep down. Not just yet at least. Most never really realized but the man was only about 90% smiles, laughter and go with the flow- the other 10% was like a hissing snake waiting in the bushes.

"Trust me, I've almost taken his chair away a couple of times to keep him from hurting himself. Would really rather not write that incident report for the records." he chuckles at the idea of it because he really doesn't want to have to deal with the technicalities of someone laughing out of their chair and hitting their head- not to mention the old man might just crack his head open at his age and that'd be a totally different ball game.

Evan shakes his head. "I swear, one of these days one of these old men is going to hurt themselves with these antics and cause me far too much trouble." he's not actually upset about it, and it's evident in his smile at the end of the comment. He reaches for his drink which has long since lost its chill. If Evan drank for enjoyment he might have cared but since he didn't the warmer taste didn't bother him enough to deter him. Technically he shouldn't be drinking it at all but he made certain exceptions to the rules now and again. (Evan never really followed the rules anyway- he was just good at pretending he did)

His eyes snapped to lars' glass and he almost smirks (almost) and wonders if he'll need to cut him off early too. It makes him chuckle against the glass before he sets his drink back down. "I believe there's one planned next week, they come and go. The comedy routines are popular enough but only do many comedians it seems." then again he hasn't gotten the place out there nearly as much as he would like to, he's been focusing more heavily on sprucing the place up first. Many of the base projects were out of the way and one of the biggest ones would be finished by the end of the year. By new years he's hoping to shift focus.

"I know I started listing them on one of the chalk boards but people keep moving it around, haven't got a clue where it went."

and by people we mean him, he keeps moving it around. And then forgetting where he put it. And then tripping on it later when he's not expecting it to be there.

But you don't need to know that part.

"Mmm let's see." Evan tilts his head back a moment as he combs through what he's witnessed so far, a tattooed finger tapping against the edge of his lip.

"Fernando? The grumpy one in the santa suite went around giving people gifts and doing a photo shoot, The one with all the hair showed up and announced he planned on having a dance with everyone at least once including the grumpy santa to which grumpy santa retorted by putting a dance bounty on his head. Whoever whisks him off his feet with a dance or a kiss wins some money, we have the Sun lion around somewhere and I think someone let loose a bunch of dog pokemon? And then there is flying mistletoe. Everywhere." emphasis on everywhere.

Evan holds up his drink. "But at least I got a glass of eggnog so it should make it pretty worthwhile." he comments with an added grin and a nod of confirmation. "I'm pretty sure that's all of it."

At least most of it. Right? He wasn't sure. He was having a hard time with so many people being so close and it took most of what he had in him to make sure he didn't look stressed out at all.

The sweater was a good distraction for that too.

The creature- he hesitates to call it a pokemon sometimes- seems almost unresponsive and he can't shake the feeling something is wrong here. Besides the obvious reasoning. Evan knows the entire endeavor was wrong but he almost had to go along with it for old times sake. After all it was someone from the scene that had recommended the situation to him to begin with. Something along the lines of a tip for old times sake.

Maybe he should have just junked the contact instead of playing along.

Evan builds the snowmen in small portions, trying to get the creature to engage with him but it seems to only tilt its head as it watches him. Perhaps it still doesn't have its legs yet? The more this goes on the more it makes him uneasy and yet he can't seem to turn away from the curiosity this brings to the table. He feels like he should delve deeper into this and yet he can't. He can't allow himself.

It isn't until the Snorunt disturbs them that he realizes the creature is watching the woods more than him- it barrels through his small snowmen army and makes a mess of the growing snow, enough to make him laugh but it doesn't last long. The full body tackle mows over the wild pokemon as well and he throws the pokeball that retrieves it almost as fast. In an instant he throws a pokeball at the other pokemon as well, knocked outon the ground from the unexpected attack and Evan sighs- heavy.

What has he gotten himself into this time?

"No hurry to master it really."

And being creative takes time, not everyone thinks about things in combos, it's easy to get caught up in the straight forward path and he figures she'll figure her own out with time. He was just helping as he was prone to do.

She continues to talk and he nods along, chuckling at her gusto. As long as she has a game plan no? Better to be looking for something than nothing at all as far as evan was concerned. "Every body has their own thing dear, mine just happens to be metal and ink. I wish you luck in your hat search." he's sure she'll find something one day. Or maybe multiple hats even. In truth there are worse things for her to seek out than hats.

In the midst of their conversation the pokemon wander off, his own seems to be tempted by something in the bushes and he allows him to roam free for the moment. She poses a valid question of him and his hand reaches for his chin in a faux show of thinking it over. Perhaps looking for the best way to explain it. Evan doesn't actually have to think about it though because the truth is, he's not going to tell her the full reason. It's nothing to do with her and everything to do with his lack of a want to talk about.

"It hurts at first but you get used to it. Once your body heals it doesn't hurt any more. I have to avoid harsh cold- usual night time chill isn't that big of a deal but frosting temperatures are. If it's cold enough it'll settle into the metal and it takes it longer to get warm again than not and can potentially cause frostbite or irritation to the surrounding skin and tissue." he's a bit matter of fact about it, figuring if she's smart enough to ask the questions she's smart enough to be given the answers. besides, it never hurts to teach someone a little about this kind of thing. "Removal and replacement is pretty easy for the most part and I have to do it for regular cleaning like any other hygiene matters but it's just part of having them." he seems to gloss over why he had so may and skips to a half answer. "And I have them because I like them, not really to stand out." well he has the specific piercings that are in his skin because he likes them. The actual placement has more meaning but he's not going to get into that.

While the two of them are busy chatting his pokemon finds a mushroom in the grass and deides its gross. the double kick is sufficient enough warning to send it running down the trail.
