Most of them were well-equipped to handle the current population of the Safari Zone; to be honest he only had one singular Water-type—well, he was a dual-type either way; but served the purpose of covering both types as effectively as possible.
So when he heard a buzzing noise coming from his PokéGear, he knew he’d at least sighted one of them! The first thing he’d noticed was a wilted patch of undergrowth—nothing could wilt that fast in a short amont of time. The Safari lands were well-maintained, that much he knew.
It wasn’t until he’d taken a few more steps forward did he realize where the wlted patches were coming from—and only then did he take a look at his PokéGear to check what he’d stumbled upon.
It was a Salandit.
Not just any kind of Salandit, mind. This one was spitting mad, hissing and releasing poisonous bubbles of toxins from its mouth, melting anything and everything in its path; determined to destroy everything in sight. Or was it just looking for a mate?
Another light was flashing on the display screen—and it was here he knew this was going to be a keeper: the Salandit causing trouble up ahead was a female.
She’s going to be a good one, I can tell, he thought, flicking Suijin’s Pokéball forward and watching as the Swampert burst forth from the flash of red light. “Sui,” he began quietly, “…deal with her whatever way you can, but stay away when she starts spitting out poison bubbles. Those look nasty,” he said, before the dual-type squared his shoulders and marched forward.
Right then and there the Salandit whipped around and emitted a Poison Gas—but the Swampert was smart to keep his distance. Instead of busting out and charging ahead, all it took was a single step—and a split-second warning—as a sudden Earthquake shook the clearing.
“Wh—whoa,” he blurted out as he felt his balance go all awry as the earth trembled. “Damn it, Sui, you really don’t mess around, huh,” he continued as the poison-spitting lizard was shaken senseless. Not content with what he’d done, the Swampert stepped back and released a sudden, turbulent Whirlpool, juggling the very angry Pokémon into the air.
Even if it mean to spit out a Flamethrower, the swirling vortex of water extinguished not only the attack, but cooled down its body as well. Once the water had subsided, he saw his chance, and chucked one of the Safari Balls he had with him at the fallen Pokémon, hoping it stayed inside without a struggle…
