in hindsight, it was probably for the best that jupiter didn't actually have anything concert-related planned for the day. just a bit of sightseeing- you know, before an apparent meteor hit and they couldn't. not that they were trying to think of that too much.[break][break]

if they did, their thoughts would stray to orchid bellerose, and all the things they wanted to say before their impending doom.[break][break]

so sightseeing it was! or....they had thought that at the time as they tried to get ready for the day without paying too much attention to the commotion outside. their best guess is that a few nosy "fans" intent on not letting them have their privacy had figured out where they lived.[break][break]

honestly, once they saw what was actually going on, they thought they would have almost preferred that. (not really, but they were just frustrated at the sight in front of them). a snorlax had, for some arceus-forsaken reason, managed to find itself in the middle of the path leading from rustboro to...jupiter couldn't think of the name right now. it didn't matter, anyways.[break][break]

a crowd of people were milling around- people late for work and people who, like jupiter themselves, probably just wanted to go sightseeing or shopping. it looked like, if something didn't change soon, they'd all be waiting for a while.[break][break]

earlier in the day, thaddeus had needed to get a bit of a distraction up for the sake of letting his partner get away. which meant asking his zoroark to create a very clever illusion.

it was well known that snorlax were constantly blocking the way of this particular road, so he just had zo create the ever convincing illusion of a snorlax blocking the path. he’d even had his mightyena, pooch, pretend to attack the snorlax with no avail.

successfully keeping up the guise, thaddeus stood with two others who were trying to figure out why throwing pokéballs at the big sleeping snorlax didn’t work.

now, truth was, thaddeus’ partner had gotten out clear and there was no trace of them at all. but watching these people pick their brains to figure this shit out? priceless!

so here he was, waiting for an opportunity to ‘attempt to capture’ the thing. ha! more like put his zoroark back in it’s capsule. for now, he was watching them all conspire ideas.

is it mean of jupiter to say he’s already fucking tired of this snorlax? because, quite honestly, he is, and if the way the whispers go through the rest of the crowd, other people are getting tired of watching the way their pokeballs bounce off the sleeping pokemon— which, unfortunately, doesn’t even seem bothered by any of that. it must be more or less dead to the world from the looks of things.[break][break]

jupiter eases his way to the front of the crowd, a hand lingering on chance’s pokeball. he’s tempted to pull the toxtricity out, but he also doesn’t want to risk dealing with the snorlax waking up and hurting his pokemon. or himself. or any of the crowd. he hesitates, trying to think of his chances, but…nobody has any other ideas, and trying to catch it obviously isn’t going to work, and there’s at least a chance the attack could scare it away.[break][break]

chance almost turns on him as soon as she’s released, but all that pent-up energy is directed to the sleeping snorlax just as quickly as jupiter speaks to her. ”use shock wave on that snorlax. get it to move.” his pokemon is quick to jump to it, moving to try to zap the snorlax.

”there we go.”

best way to distract people is give them a mystery. so as the shock wave hits, the flashes of light cover the ‘transformation’ and thaddeus is able to withdraw the illusionary genius that is his zoroark before her form can be spotted.

so to the public eye, it looked a bit like in a flash of light, the toxtricity’s attack had just… evaporated the snorlax. perk: that toxtricity had looked real fuckin’ pissed too. score.

”did that thng just, evaporate the snorlax?” thaddeus begins the rumor with a whisper, which spreads among the people quickly. some give scowls, others even looke impressed.

either way, thaddeus was able to give his rocket’s an escape window and they’re safe, so too is zo his zoroark, and now there’s no way it can be traced back to him.

once the flashes of light from chance's attack faded, the snorlax is...completely gone. jupiter's toxtricity looks as surprised as she is, searching desperately for the sight of the much larger pokemon. for not-so-obvious reasons, though, there's no sight of it- and chance, after a moment, goes back to her place by her trainer's side, restless energy now replaced by clear confusion.[break][break]

any other time, jupiter wouldn't have minded because it means that the toxtricity isn't about to use her as a chew toy. this time, though, she catches the whispers, wondering if the toxtricity had just completely evaporated the snorlax. it's met with a bit of worry, both that this would ruin their reputation as a rockstar and that some fool would try to take her pokemon from her.[break][break]

"that couldn't have evaporated the snorlax." she's withdrawing chance as she speaks up, desperate to dispel the rumors before they really get started. the last thing she wants to deal with are rumors that chance is capable of doing something like that. she can see the headlines of celebrity gossip magazines now.[break][break]

is she overexaggerating? maybe a little, but with her dye, chance is probably more recognizable to fans of amp.

seemed his truth was tucked away for now. he feels no remorse in having started the rumor. it’s covered his ass and the ass of the grunts who had smuggled something through the city out into the tunnel.

so thaddeus just watches. watches the people looking hungry to blame and watching as the mystery begins to boil. but it occurs to thaddeus as he is watching that he cannot let the rumor get too big. suspicious activity could draw a ranger. they had radars for picking up on illusion particles or some shit, didn’t they?

maybe thaddeus just watches too much television…

”whatever it was,” thaddeus stands up and shrugs. ”road’s cleared now, so let’s focus on gettin’ the works moving, huh?”

it almost looks like he’s trying to save the trainer. is he? no. he’s trying to make sure the rangers don’t pop up and investigate.

”no sense fussing over a lucky miracle, huh? lard-ass could have teleported away via a psychic friend for all we know.”

the people are looking for someone to blame, and jupiter, like an idiot, is still holding the pokeball. once they realize it, they’re quick to put it away, ready to try to defend chance (and themselves) again if it came down to it. chance hadn’t done anything wrong– sure, she was a little eager to bite jupiter sometimes, but the toxtricity wasn’t capable of doing anything like that. they knew their pokemon too well for that.[break][break]

someone changes the subject, soon enough, and jupiter practically relaxes as soon as they do. they don’t know the true reasoning behind it, and they don’t care to know, because people are already realizing what he says is true. the road is cleared, and even if something less-than-pleasant had happened to the snorlax, there’s no obvious sign of it. it’s easier to write it off as an out of sight, out of mind incident with that.[break][break]

jupiter still feels shaken up, honestly, but everyone else is preparing to go on their way and they should too. they pause, just for a second, to offer the stranger that had more or less saved their skin a quick “thank you.” they’re tempted to continue, pressured by the urge to defend chance more than they got to, but there’s a voice in the back of their mind that warns them they’ll come off as too defensive and do the opposite.[break][break]

so, for now, they leave it as just a thanks, even if they’re ready to defend their pokemon again if they need to. .
