a megalopolan appears. beside, a POIPOLE hovers, its large head engorged with poison. it floats in mid-air as a snickering satellite. velmos smiles. and the slightest glimmer of drool lines his gums. suddenly, the megalopolan rushes them like a frenzied wolf.[break][break]

his ultra beast soars alongside him. GUNK SHOTS fly to the rangers and their pokemon like festering meteors.

Hailee had never seen someone like this before. Her stare shifted to a piercing glare upon their remark how they seemed out of place. Hailee gritted her teeth. She knew that better than anyone. She wasn't supposed to be here. She wasn't like everyone else. War had never been part of her plans when she moved here. Either way she didn't have much of a choice right now. [break][break]

She didn't have much time to think about anything though before they were being attacked. Hailee wasn't sure if she'd be able to properly react in time to avoid getting hit but she at least knew she could counter. "Lilli!" Hailee called out to her politoed who's maw began to bloat and fill with water before blasting a HYDRO PUMP towards their enemy. The hope was that the jet beam of water would serve to combat the gunk shot that had been fired at them prior.

War... War ever changes. Noah had started thinking like an old man, as if he had seen serious combat like this before, like the world around him had cracked into two sides forever fighting each other without the initial memory of why and how everything started. [break][break]

In front of him the estranged person came towards him and Hailee, moving like a fierce animal ready for the kill. Hailee the first out the two to make her move, using Lilli and it's Hydro Pump to perhaps counter the man's own Gunk Shot.[break][break]

Noah himself being thankful that Titan had already been out of it's pokeball. Quickly glaring towards their target he'd let out a command towards his Tyranitar. "GO! Stone Edge! Titan." The Tyranitar would stomp the ground before picking up a rock piece and throwing it towards the Poipole. Having faith that Hailee's move would be defensive enough to let him go on a more aggressive stance.[break][break]

the GUNK SHOTS are diluted by the politoed's HYDRO PUMP. contaminated droplets fall as acid rain and fester quietly in their gathered shallow pools.[break][break]

as the STONE EDGE lands, the poipole braces itself against the rock. surprisingly, it is more durable than it looks.[break][break]

"i'll give you two a headstart to run." velmos says. "i'm starting to get hungry."[break][break]

from the air, his poipole is quick to scatter TOXIC SPIKES around the politoed and tyranitar before summoning a SLUDGE WAVE to force movement.

Her Hydro Pump worked in stalling the gunk shots fired at her and Noah even managed to get a solid hit on the poipole with a Stone Edge. However the poipole seemed to be built of different stuff as it wasn't really phased by the attack at all. Hailee's glare narrowed as their opponent continued the assault. [break][break]

"i'll give you two a headstart to run." He says as Hailee's hands ball into a fist at her sides, "i'm starting to get hungry." Hailee wasn't sure who this guy was but she knew she couldn't allow him to get past her and go further into the theater. "We can't let him get past us." Hailee said to Noah as their opponent readied their next move.[break][break]

Their poipole summoned toxic spikes around Lilli and Titan before a sludge wave was launched their way. Hailee didn't expect to have enough time to get Lilli and Titan out of the way, nor did Lilli know anything that could stop the sludge wave in it's tracks. "Lilli think fast!" [break][break]

An auditory cue for her next move. Lilli closed her eyes as her body began to glow, a blue and purple aura enveloping her before rings of light began to form and project towards the poipole. Lilli used HYPNOSIS in an attempt to put the poipole to sleep. Hailee wasn't confident it would work but hopefully it bought her some more time.

Oh lord, he coming. Noah really was not paid enough for this, not at all. Perhaps if he survives he should quit and never try anything that has to do with working under the government, that sounded perfect. The whole fighting thing away from his family really didn't fit well with his own ideology and it was probably going to show, there was only so much kindness someone would and could give while protecting strangers over his family. At least right now he had someone he wanted to protect. [break][break]

What a strange man they were facing right now, talking about food at a time like this. Perhaps him and Noah could have been food buddies in a different world, but it was not this world. He wasn't about to fail the Slaport Rangers just yet. "No one goes through!" He'd say as complementary comment to Hailee's own. [break][break]

Her Hydro Pump did help them and that was good but that was just one small step that they had to take to reach victory. Their enemy would respond to them with another move. This time it was toxic spikes, this would make their movement complicated and dangerous, Noah himself knew his Tyranitar would be able to take for now but on the long run it would be questionable. "Level the field Tyranitar!" Quickly commanding his pokemon who would take a few steps into the spikes while stomping the grounds, making waves as the ground trembled and cracked, creating an EARTHQUAKE. Noah hoping that somehow a broken piece of ruble would block off the sludge wave. Perhaps his aoe abilities might become too much for a city to take but he was willing to take that burden for now. [break][break]

the poipole manages to avoid the HYPNOSIS, but is unable to take advantage of its previous attack. the SLUDGE WAVE collides with the tyranitar's EARTHQUAKE in putrid greeting.[break][break]

velmos bares his chipped fangs not in a smile, but in a scowl.[break][break]

"sleep?" the megalopolan lowers his hips, feet digging into the earth. "try that again."[break][break]

across the leveled field, the alien runs. he dashes straight for Hailee Jacobs. his teeth are still bared, drool collecting in the corners of his lips.[break][break]

his poipole swerves toward Noah Camus in order to distract him. another GUNK SHOT aims for him rather than his tyranitar.

Hypnosis didn't work, figured, but at least Noah picked up for where she lacked. His Earthquake halting the Sludge Wave's advance. "Nice Noah!" Hailee nodded at her boyfriend before turning her attention back to their target. It seemed their enemy was getting more and more pressed for time as she could see the irritation in his face. "sleep?" as he lowers himself in a stance and bares his teeth at Hailee. "try that again."[break][break]

With that he took off gunning straight for her. There was no doubt about it as Hailee locked glares with him. A cold shiver ran down her spine at his advance however. Her fight or flight instincts kicking in and telling her to flee. That if she got caught she would be the lunch this guy was so talkative about that. [break][break]

Ah, she was too pretty to die like this.[break][break]

Hailee grit her teeth as she reached for her pokeball. "Lilli come back!" she shouted as she called her politoed back. "Fawkes!" she called her Blaziken forth. She needed to stop this guy from reaching her. She wasn't trained in close quarters combat or anything. At most the only active thing she did in school was cross-country but that wouldn't help her here. [break][break]

"Burn him up Fawkes! BLAZE KICK!" Hailee ordered as she pointed at the strange drooling guy charging at her. "Gross." she muttered. Fawkes huffed as he charged at the megalopolan, the ends of his leg igniting in bright searing flames as he attempted to stop the advance on his trainer with a well timed burning kick at the enemy's face.

Noah's defensive style of combat was working for once, it was fairly surprising since his last battle had an awful result and an even worse bitter taste in his mouth. If he wanted to do anything he knew he had to go into the offensive, he just had to see the right time for it. The Earthquake meeting with the Sludge Wave felt almost biblical in a way, something he could tell stories about.[break][break]

From here on though, the fight would only escalate int pure insanity. The very strange looking man would go towards Hailee for the one on one, the move itself made complete sense, still a very strange thing to see when someone as Noah had grown participating and watching proper pokemon battles. Before he could react and help her he would be jumped, but by the enemy pokemon. [break][break]

Dip, ducking and dodging. Those were the only reactions that Noah could process at the heat of the moment, he had to jump and roll away from the pokemon's Gunk Shot. The tyranitar was simply too big and too slow to react to anything like that, it was time for it to return to it's pokeball, that was what the defensive Noah would have thought. But this time he was about to strike back.[break][break]

"Strike back, Titan!" With the debris all around them, making this the perfect playing ground for a tyranitar. Picking up a slab of stone it would throw it towards the Poipole, Tyranitar would use Stone Edge. Hoping to land a blow significant enough for him to have time to help Hailee on her battle with the strange Rocket member.[break][break]

velmos is struck by the blaziken's fiery kick. it singes his flesh, but his skin is thick and durable. made strong over generations of megalopolan survival.[break][break]

his hands manage to grab a hold of the blaziken's leg and with a snarl, he bites the pokemon's foot.[break][break]

meanwhile, velmos' poipole swerves through thrown stones. as if navigating an asteroid belt, the alien threads the needle the best it can. adhesive goo slows several rocks, but finally, it is struck by the STONE EDGE.[break][break]

it forces the immature ultra beast to the ground, causing it to faint.[break][break]

velmos withdraws from the blaziken. he wrinkles his nose, face burning and wet. he does not clean the blood from his lips. his chin. recalling his poipole, he sends out his naganadel with a tap of a beast ball.[break][break]

"you two think you can make a difference here?" the general scoffs.[break][break]

the naganadel swerves in between his legs and lifts him to become his airborne mount.[break][break]

"you're impeding your world's progress. you know little of what you defend."

"Haaa," Hailee breathes out a sigh of relief as the burning kick from Fawkes connects with the megalopolan's face. However her breath quickly caught in her chest as she watched him, no worse for wear, grab Fawkes' leg and take a bite into it like some sort of chicken wing. "Fawkes!" Hailee shouted as she heard Fawkes cried out in pain as he reeled before kicking off of his assaulter. It seemed he was willing to withdraw as well as he retreated back to recall his fainted poipole.[break][break]

"you two think you can make a difference here?" the enemy scoffs as Hailee rushes to her blaziken. "Are you alright?" she whispers as she pets his head gently. "You did well." She said softly before recalling Fawkes and turning her attention back to the megalopolan. "you're impeding your world's progress. you know little of what you defend." he summons a nagandel to his side before mounting it, almost as if he was planning on leaving. [break][break]

He had a point, though Hailee was loath to admit it. Still, she'd deal with that later. Right now, she felt it was imperative they attempt to apprehend this individual. He was dangerous and if he was allowed to escape who know what he might do to other innocent people. But who was she to believe she could actually impede this guy. She was just a simple ranger. [break][break]

Hailee reached for another pokeball on her belt. This time calling forth Valerie, her shiny altaria. "Even so..." Hailee growled as golden light began to emit from her jeweled earrings. "I'll feel better knowing you won't have it." As the golden light became more dazzling Hailee brushed her hand against the mega accessory, almost as if she was brushing her hair back. Light began to envelop Valerie as she began to evolve. "Give me eyes in the sky Val! Mega evolve!" [break][break]

She readies a DRAGON BREATH at her target before the beam of light spears through the air and soars towards where Velmos and his nagandel were.

What a miraculous day it had been so far. Somehow Noah had been able to hold his own against someone like a Rocket member, not that he had been alone but for him it still felt somewhat accomplished with the whole situation, even if he was somewhere he didn't want to be at all. Along with his Tyranitar being able to hit the Poipole Noah wanted to high-five his pokemon but that had to wait, he knew things weren't over yet.[break][break]

Quickly bringing his own attention towards Hailee's situation, he'd be happy to see that she was also taking care of herself really well, after all she had been the one with the most experience in field work like this so he wasn't surprised, just rather impressed and proud. Quickly making his way to her before the strange man would engage both with villainous words, the classic, something Noah had actually expected to happen at the start of the battle. [break][break]

Witnessing the ascension of their enemy with his pokemon and Hailee's quick reply to have her Altaria mega evolve and make the combat an aerial one. Noah didn't have anything like that to help at hand right so he'd become ground support for the Mega Altaria. "Keep doing what you were doing, Titan!" Why change what was working. Tyranitar would roar as he started throwing stones towards where his target had been last at. Once again using Stone Edge. He had too keep something constant going, making it harder for the enemy to escape by air.[break][break]

He didn't exactly care for what the man had said to them, despite it being incredibly right. "We really don't know, we're just fodder." Noah would quietly think to himself and hold his thoughts for when they next had some down time.[break][break]

velmos licks the blood from his lips—and the trickle of megalopolan ichor from his kicked nose.[break][break]

"then you two have no conviction. you don't even know what you're fighting for." velmos says. "you all fight with cut strings."[break][break]

the mega evolved ALTARIA and TYRANITAR manages to catch the stinger of his mount with stone and fiery breath. shrieking, the ultra beast is rocked. velmos hangs on with gritted teeth.[break][break]

adhesive guck oozes out from the damaged stinger, and the injured ultra beast carries its owner through the smoke and flames of littleroot.[break][break]

perhaps one day, he'll face them when they have a better idea of what they're fighting for.[break][break]

if this region still exists by then.

It was a hit and Val did some solid damage to them too. With Noah's support from the ground with Stone Edge they managed to get some good damage off. But when the smoke cleared their target was gone. "Fuck." Hailee mumbled as she ran her hands through her hair. She hadn't wanted him to get away, but what could she do? She'd played every card she thought she could. [break][break]

Now that they seemed to be out of immediate danger, Hailee's adrenaline rush ended and all of her emotions came crashing into her at once. Her legs buckled before she fell to the ground on her knees. Her eyes began to sting which let her know tears would be falling soon. This was a lot to handle, believe it or not, for just a couple of normal rangers. [break][break]

"Y-you're okay right?" Hailee asked as she glanced up at Noah through blurry lenses. The words their enemy left them with echoed in her ear. What were they fighting anyway? They hadn't been informed of anything. In fact, they'd been tossed to the front lines with no care for whether they would live or die. [break][break]

Nor the loved ones they would leave behind. That left a bad taste in Hailee's mouth. She stifled her sniffles as hot tears began to stream down her cheeks. She wiped at her eyes as she felt Valerie land and gently nudge herself against her to comfort her. "We did well right?" Hailee asked between sobs.
