MOTIVATIONS

LOYALTY TO ROCKET

Girard has been a member of Team Rocket for over a decade. He joined the cause while still living in Galar in his early twenties, in pursuit of revenge. After he graduated from both Hammerlocke University (undergraduate degrees in Economics and History) and Wyndon University (Master's of Finance), he and his best friend from his graduate program had planned to start a company together. Girard confided in this friend, creating many product plans for him and investing most of his savings (what he had managed to make through part time jobs during his university years, while also paying an expensive tuition). Girard's friend, however, ended up stealing his investments and intellectual property, and covertly started the company on his own without Girard's knowledge. Betrayed, Girard agreed to work for Team Rocket in exchange for ruining his former friend's business. The ploy was successful: Team Rocket ran that company into the ground. Impressed with the organization's goals for the region - and ultimately, the world - Girard remained a member even after his ex-friend was ruined and he was able to get his money back. Rather than go on to start the business he had originally wanted to start, he decided to make a career out of working for Rocket.

Flash forward to 2016: Girard was recommended for a region transer, due to the trust he had earned amongst the Galar Rocket underbosses. He was sent to Hoenn, a region where Rocket was not able to operate out in the open too directly due to the League's scrutiny and domination. Girard settled in Mauville City and opened Fraser's Fine Goods, where he has covertly aided Hoenn Rocket in furthering their takeover goals ever since.

MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD

Girard is useful to Rocket primarily because of his savvy business sense, talent for being able to procure pretty much anything for anyone, diplomatic prowess, observation skills, and keen mind. Girard can fight (very well, in fact, from years of training in Galar Rocket) - and will if he needs to - but he tends to hold back unless he absolutely has to: he would rather win battles with logic and wit, saving his physical strength as a surprise tactic. Girard is incredibly useful as a spy, diplomat, negotiator, bookkeeper, and transaction facilitator. He likes playing these roles, and prefers to work behind the scenes. Only a fool would underestimate him, but many do simply because of his soft-spoken nature and less outright violent tendencies (forcing him into violence, however, never ends well for his opponent). Girard hopes to continue furthering Rocket's goals in Hoenn with the many skills he can bring to the table.

In addition to the above, Girard is also quite talented at antique restorations (primarily furniture and appliances) and the art of brewing the perfect cup of tea.

HAND OF THE KING

Girard does not like the spotlight, but he loves being needed. He "lives to serve", but only for the right people. Girard does desire power, but not directly; he would rather someone else take on the mantle (burden) of leader, while he works in the field as their right-hand man. He is a man of details, logistics, and strategies - he would like nothing more than to be the trusted advisor to the "ruler" of Hoenn. He believes that is the role he has always been best suited for, and meant to play, and he quietly scrutinizes the various high ranking Rockets he works with in hopes of discerning which of them might be most worthy of his loyalty.

One has to wonder: what if someone unexpected were to win Girard over...?
