v a l i
loyal companion. optimist. damaged goods.

technically his second pokemon, but the first he'd chosen for himself. the handlers warned him that the flaaffy would make itself out to be useless in battle, that the ball on its tail had been ruptured in an accident, and still salem persisted. vali still knows a few electric-type moves, though using them causes half of the moves' power to reflect back unto himself. despite his crippling performance in battle, he's extremely protective of salem and will go to great lengths to ensure his safety.

k v a s i r
unlikely friend. bashful. manic streak.

given to him in his final form by rocket when he finally agreed to their demands. he'd ignored the gengar at first, had attempted to release it as both a means of spite and self-harm (by way of the consequences), but kvasir always returned. it took a long time for him to realize that the pokemon had as difficult a life as salem had.

b e l l e
doting caretaker. anxious. supportive demeanor.

does not often like to be brought out of her ball. belle is an oddball through and through, but she's been specifically trained to deal with certain aspects of salem's condition. she has incredible agoraphobia and has trouble concentrating when she's somewhere she's not familiar. when emerging from her ball, she usually retains a bandana over her eyes and earmuffs over her ears.

c r u x
stoic bodyguard. passive. sticky fingers.

he has a habit of picking up the broken. she was a street urchin when he first found her, picking pockets as a frogadier. she was damn good at it, and the only reason she hadn't gotten away with taking salem's things is because of kvasir. when salem offered her a proposal, one that included high-level cases where she could get her hands on better things, and the promise of never having to worry about her next meal, she wholeheartedly agreed. despite their mutual agreement, she'd taken to him rather quickly, and now considers herself his personal bodyguard.

e e v e e
begrudging ally. scrappy. knack for puzzles.

rescued from an aggressive trumbeak, eevee is one of the newest additions to salem's team. he's a bit on edge around the rest of salem's rocket peers, and he's come to the conclusion that eevee had been mistreated by members of the faction in the past. despite eevee's dislike of the group, he begrudgingly feels that he owes salem for rescuing him. despite salem's attempts, he refuses to accept an evolution stone. annoyed and desperate, and because he won't acknowledge any other name, salem's just taken to calling him eevee.

l y s e
self-appointed leader. goof. hero complex.

bubbly and energetic, lyse is somewhat of a headache for salem. he'd confronted the trainer after witnessing vali's hindering use of discharge and after a few pokewords spoken between the flaaffy and himself, he decided for himself that he'd be joining the team. though on a surface level vali finds his presence annoying, salem can pick out the envy in his eyes at the raichu's competence. for this reason, he's never a strong contender as far as battles go when salem needs him, which is rough, considering the raichu is probably the most powerful pokemon on his team.

on salem's condition

relapsing-remitting ms (or RRMS) is defined by inflammatory attacks on myelin (the layers of insulating membranes surrounding nerve fibers in the central nervous system (CNS)), as well as the nerve fibers themselves. during these inflammatory attacks, activated immune cells cause small, localized areas of damage which produce the symptoms of MS. because the location of the damage is so variable, no two people have exactly the same symptoms.

RRMS – the most common disease course – is characterized by clearly defined attacks of new or increasing neurologic symptoms. These attacks – also called relapses or exacerbations – are followed by periods of partial or complete recovery (remissions). during remissions, all symptoms may disappear, or some symptoms may continue and become permanent. however, there is no apparent progression of the disease during the periods of remission.

at different points in time, RRMS can be further characterized as either active (with relapses and/or evidence of new MRI activity) or not active, as well as worsening (a confirmed increase in disability over a specified period of time following a relapse) or not worsening. an increase in disability is confirmed when the person exhibits the same level of disability at the next scheduled neurological evaluation, typically 6 to 12 months later.

when salem undergoes an inflammatory attack, he refers to them as 'flares.' while his disease is still in the mild relapsing-remitting stages, and the help of his audino is part of the reason why he's still there, his health is on an inevitable decline.
