Simulated or not, those sounds were creepy. The redhead scowled at the phone in her pocket, pressing it against her thigh. This situation reminded her of the time she played horror games on VR. A big, mitt of a hand fell onto her left shoulder—her normally nonplussed demeanor shattered with a jump.

He huffs in her ear, any impression that he was cool flying out the window. “Yakky! Seriously!” The badger is hiding behind his trainer’s shoulder, merlot eyes peering uncertainly at both the tunnel and their companion.

As the tunnel’s pull grows in urgency, the redhead’s eyes narrow to slits. Some part of her wishes she still smoked, so she could chill with a nice cigarette. “I know this stuff is fake, but I’ve watched enough horror movies to know following those noises is a bad idea.” She lifted her shoulders in a shrug. “But I’ll let you pick the poison.” It wouldn’t be the first time she almost died in a fake world.

Which, now that she thought about it, was really weird.

When he'd been told that Rocket scientists had figured out how to use the seal stone in some kind of machinery, he'd expected there to be information he had to look into. And he definitely would not pass up a chance to gather more when presented with the chance. The only real problem was that you couldn't go in without a partner, most probably for safety reasons and such.[break][break]

Pity for them, really. Madeline McKenna may talk quite a bit, but he will merely grace her with a placid stare before fidgeting with his sleeves. She's right, following the noises isn't the smartest of choices, especially not for the first go whilst he's yet to figure out the rules behind this simulation. And so he'll sigh, looking for an exit as he dulls the voices in his head.

This kid was really the life of the party, huh? As she stared into those placid eyes, a warm greeting shriveled in her throat. For a brief moment, she wondered if that whole cyborg project had finally taken off. This would be a good way to perform a Turing test. But, something about the way he picked at her sleeves, calmed her a bit. It reminded her of her mousy cousin. Every hoody or sweater she owned was topped off by little stray threads. Only the doctor’s lab coats seemed invincible against the power of nervous tics.

s the floor falls out beneath her, Madd screams. It’s probably the most ladylike noise she’s made in years. She lands on her backside—the lack of padding sending a jolt up her spine. Yakuza’s landing is similarly clumsy—he lays there stunned for a moment before clambering back up.

As the redhead forces herself to her feet, she turns to find Lykaois. “Are you all right?” The gruff manner of speaking is replaced by something more flowert as if the fall had jolted her debutante mannerisms back into place. Any thought toward the young man quickly fades, however. Instead, amber eyes fixate on the message scrawled in front of them. “Well, isn’t that comforting?” One by one, the hairs on the back of her neck rose up. She was pretty sure they were being watched.

When the portal flickers in front of them, Madeline is quick to walk toward it. Rubbing at the back of his head, a grumbling Yakuza follows. She might love horror movies, but she didn't like feeling like she was in one. She didn't exactly fit the survivor trope.

The floor crumbles and with it, the gruff facade that Madeline McKenna puts up. Where she hits the ground in pain, he tries his best to stick a landing, inhaling sharply as he tucks into a roll. Not the best for his knees he reckons, but enough that the pain won't be lingering for long through this simulation.[break][break]

Madeline's check-in is met with a brief nod, his eyes flicking over her presence to check for any limps as she picks herself up. When he detects none, he'll simply follow suit, fumbling a little onto his feet whilst taking note of the writings on the wall. Nothing has actively tried to hunt them as of yet, so he dismisses any dread that should rightfully be tied to such a sight.[break][break]

That nod is enough for her. If the stoic was hurt, it’d be on him for not bringing it up. As the portal opens up, Madd fishes out her virtual phone to try and take a picture of whatever’s scrawled on the wall. Whether it’d save, she didn’t know. But she got to bring a toy out of memories, so weirder things happened.

As her vision clears, the redhead takes in the glade around her. It looked like something out of Lord of the Rings. “Whoa.” A large hand gently brushed the petrified head of a kneeling Squirtle. She could feel the indents of each scale. “Either someone put a ton of work into this, or we have a gorgon on the—” A voice interrupted her. One inside her head. “You hear that?”

She normally hated stuff like this. Psychic types—and associated abilities—creeped her out. Just thinking about it brought back old memories. Ones that ended in shattered consciousness as she faced down her father’s Malamar. Still, it was a tree. And, it looked like it needed water. Which, as a tree, it couldn’t exactly get up and grab itself.

A freckled hand dropped down to a Pokeball marked with a blue sticker. “You all right if I water it?"

Petrification and a large white tree only really brings up two creatures in his mind - Xerneas and Yveltal, who have both been in Rocket's custody once. What has become of the bringer of death is somewhat of a mystery, but if they had been doing anything like this in the real world, he probably would've known.[break][break]

The first word he graces her with are one muttered with an absent mind, his attention spread over the vast amounts of statues gathered around. Had they been praying to Xerneas for protection? That would mean the lifebringer had failed in their duties, or simply not bothered to lend aid when asked. Or should he be thinking about this scenario in a different light?

[attr="class","itemcoltext"]You water the tree. Suddenly, you hear a crackling sound of moving wood, the bare tree's branches swaying as if alive. Around you, the petrified Pokemon stir alive. The stone crumbles apart as new fur, hide and scale emerge.[break][break]

The tree settles back into dormancy, but the Pokemon eventually turn to you in thanks.[break][break]

Curiously, these Pokemon feature brilliant markings that glow and glimmer beautifully in the dappled sunlight. Whether they were originally Illumina Pokemon or not is uncertain, but they shine bright with gratitude.

Ironically, if Lurch had refused, she’d have just done it anyway. Uncle Joel had tried to imbue her with a respect for plants. One that carried beyond what she could roll up and take a puff of. The only reason she didn’t have a bunch of them was an inability to keep them alive. “Thanks.”

With a bit of help from her Blastoise, Madeline gives the tree a good soaking. As the moisture leeches into the roots, the sound of cracking can be heard. She and her Obstagoon turned to face the statues as they burst free from their shells like weird amalgamation gargoyles. Fearing an attack, she tightened her hands into fists. Yakuza, meanwhile, shrunk back behind her. Glowing stuff was typically bad news where he came from.

Madd has never felt more like a fairytale princess. All the glowing Pokemon—glowmon?--turn to her in gratitude. She nods in return. “You’re welcome. Just try to stay out of trouble, all right?” Sure, this was all fake, but it never hurt to be polite.

The portal opened directly behind the tree. Seemingly spooked by the giant glowing door, all the Pokemon darted off. Suddenly, the place was just an empty field with a glowing tree. With a smile—cheeks red from embarrassment—Madd turned to face it. “Pretty boys, first?”

Emotions? Are the creatures here sentient and truly displaying emotions? He's pretty sure that they're simply part of the code, but he'll give a nod along to whatever Madd tells them. And the strange markings that glow upon their fur... A connection to Xerneas? Or that illumina phenomenon he'd heard about?[break][break]

He blinks at the question, then once more as he confirms it being directed towards him. Though his facial expressions don't quite contort at the nickname, he'll begin to lead the way as requested.

Eventually, your out of world experience is interrupted by a violent rocking of your vessel and blaring alarms. A large hand-like being crushes a part of your ship as if in search of you and your friends.[break][break]

With a final glance at the emptied glade, Madeline ducked into the portal. This last step ended with a loud clang as her boots landed on the ship’s bridge. Around her is something out of Star Trek or Star Wars. A million different buttons beep up at her from the silver terminal. “What the—?” Amber eyes jerked to the sky above her—an endless sea of stars. “Wow.” Nothing else can express the beauty of this place.

After a moment of silent awe, she turns her attention to the terminals itself. None of this was real. Even if it was pretty sweet, and she had a job to do. Walking over to the nearest desk, Madd manages to get some text up on the screen. “I’m glad it’s not in Klingon.” Sure, she watched Star Trek when she stayed home from school, but she wouldn’t call herself a nerd. “It looks like this place was heading to some place called the Ascended—” Something white flashed across the ship’s skylight.

“What was—” The entire ship shuddered as a hand clutched on its thrusters. One of its sharpened gold points stabbed through the ship’s hull. A sharp hissing filled the air. Like a child with a bathtub toy, they suddenly found themselves frozen. Her hand slipped to her belt, ready to try and get these assholes off her ship. But she turned to Lykaios for confirmation. Not all aliens were chest bursters after all.

The hand flies toward them after peeling the ship like a tin can.
