The moon was especially bright out tonight giving the whole world its own little bit of light to illuminate the night. It was almost soothing in a cold sort of way and it really helped ease the nerves of a couple of folks out tonight. One of them was waiting to meet up with another and that person in question was Kazimir. While he waited for one more to join him he let his Lycanroc out to enjoy the moonlight and watched as it rolled around in the dirt to coat its fur in dust and dirt.

"Y'know we're just gonna give you a wash when we get home." Ever since it was a pup Hachiko had always liked getting itself dirty no matter where they go. When it grew up into an orange beast of a dog it never left that little quirk of its behind. It was almost endearing and brought a smile to Kaz's face as he checked his phone and that smile shrunk a little bit as he thought out loud. "Where is that fugger?"

a stylized mask stolen from a rocket grunt covered his face, but as Zev Harcourt mentioned, a mask wouldn't be able to hide the identity behind it.

he had been wandering around without a care for the objective ever since his encounter with the avatar of ruination. it is by sheer coincidence that his path crosses with the assignment he agreed upon before his mind was muddled.

"oi!" he calls the first person he sees, coincidentally one of the people who took a liking on secondary identities from the start. "are you heading to where the fun is?"

it wasn't uncharacteristic for kyle to be straight to the point, but straying from the job is. the vagueness of his wording was the saving grace with the uncertainty of possible interpretations of his statement.

the fun in question was those of the opposite faction. they always had the best reactions.

"...Kyle?" Kaz blinked as the Champ called out to him. The mask threw him off for a bit but the way he talked confirmed that it was indeed Mr Hoenn himself Kyle. Was he trying to make a new fashion statement or something though?

"Y'know...I don't know if a mask suits you. Anyway how's about helping me break into a Rocket camp and stealing their diaries or something, sound fun enough for you?" The enthusiasm was clear as day as Kaz gestured his Lycanroc over and reached into his pocket to pull out...

A sock.

He shot a glance at Kyle that only had one message plain on his face. "Don't ask." Wiggling it in front of its trusty smell sniffer the dog went off being a real odor sleuth with his snoot planted on the ground as he walked away leading the duo to their target. "Y'know, dogs are alright. I think I get why you love them so much. C'mon we don't want them to finish up before we raid them." He winked as he followed his pooch.

"take that back. the mask's cool," he tells kazimir. "it looked really nice on the rocket i borrowed it from."

he would've been ready for a brawl had he not been distracted by an actual objective that would help their side win the race.

"now we're talking!"

his voice starts to get enthusiastic. the smile would be wider than what people are used to seeing, though the mask covers his features for anyone else to see.

the sock's origin is overlooked over the need to release pent up frustrations through beating up rocket grunts.

"lead the way, dog boy two."

he was number one. it wasn't a nickname he embraced at first, but it grew on him over the course of the years.

"Dog boy two? Hey wait I ain't even a dog person!"

His lycanroc manages to find their target, a little steel box that was half built into the side of a cliff with a pair of guards blocking the front entrance. "There's our target. Alright let's hit them fast and hard!" His enthusiasm matches Kyle's, which feels a bit refreshing to have someone match his energy lately. He could have sworn the guy was more lackadaisically according to the stuff he's heard from other people. That wasn't important right now though, right now they were on a mission.

His Lycanroc surges forward with accelrock and manages to sweep the legs of one of them to throw him onto his butt. It just happily barked at the other Rocket before running back to Kyle and Kaz leading them towards the two men. "Your up dog boy uno."

kyle already sprints forward by the time they're noticed with the lycanroc's attack.

the other grunt manages to get a pokemon out in time, which kyle matches with his own. a mightyena faces off against a tyranitar, but the battle doesn't last as the match is decided within the next moment.

a whistle from kyle sounds as he runs past the pokemon. crystals burst forth from the pokemon as a tera blast is fired from its mouth. the pokemon thinks twice about blocking kyle, and instead, gets hit with the fighting-type move at full force.

kyle leaps at the other rocket with a boot to their face, knocking them down. the shock and the force are enough to keep the grunt fainted.

"are we interrogating them?" he asks kazimir, his boot resting on the grunt's chest.

Now he knows Kyle is a champ for a reason, his skill was still always talk of the town, but seeing him in action kind of felt...different. It didn't feel like he was watching Kyle Lopez the champion of Hoenn. This felt much more intense than he would have thought. Was it intense though or was just Kaz feeling intimidated.

These were question for later.

"Well...we could. Oooooor," He looks between the two guards and themselves before kneeling down and spreading his hands around one of the knocked out guards as if he's measuring him. "Perfect."

Then he starts to strip him.

It doesn't take long until he's dressed up like a Rocket Grunt himself. Disregard the fact the uniform he sports is clearly being stretched to all hell by his bulging muscles. If he so much as flexed they look like they would tear right in half. "What's more fun than sneaking and having some spy time? Guess that mask is gonna actually be handy for ya." Nearly waltzing up to the door he cracked it open to take a peek inside, "Think we're at least in the clear here though. Take your time."

taking their clothes off and putting them over his current ones made it feel stuffy, but he'd rather not leave it behind.

"i like what you're putting up," he tells kazimir, lips smirking beneath the mask. he was in the middle of fitting the rest of the clothes on top of his regular ones, almost in a hurry. "infiltrate their base and get information from the more important people."

these were just grunts after all. they held little to no information, and usually only had instructions relayed on them rather than actual intel that would be useful in the chess match between factions.

"oh, i better recall this guy too."

a mightyena would normally fly under the radar, but not the one that already was terastallized. the pokemon he has out goes back to its ball, opting to trust on kazimir's lycanroc to lead them instead.

Kaz gives a thumbs up as he and his Lycanroc lead the group into the building. First was a hallway with various doors on each side as they passed by, a pattern formed with doors switching between name plates and windows into other hallways. Their current corridor almost went on a bit too long for reason until his Lycanroc stopped at one with a window leading into another hallway. It was as good as any lead so taking the door handle Kaz slowly opened it up.

"Hey you two!"

Kaz froze and craned his head and from behind them stood a man coming out of the door opposite of their chosen door. He looked grizzled, old with a scruffy beard and mustache that took up his entire lower jaw yet his posture was firm as he jabbed a finger at the pair. "What the hell do you two think you're doing out here!? Ya bottom ringers shoulda been down below an hour ago! So what gives?!"

The largest of the two disguised men stayed quiet as he glanced over to Kyle. He pleaded to the champ with his eyes. One simple thing. One thing to save the both of them from getting found out so quickly.

if he wasn't wearing a mask, he would've flashed kazimir a look of smug superiority.

of course i got this.

"do you know who you're talking to?"

he changes the tone of his voice to something deeper. although the nature of his words remain the same, it only takes a tiny shift to push kyle's own carefree nonchalance to stoic indifference.

"come on. don't be shy. give me an answer." kyle takes out an obsidian knife and plays it with it with proficiency, twirling it around his fingers like a pen. "you must be new if you don't recognize the mask."

must have been a high ranking member of the organization, kyle guesses, since they do have avatar abilities.

"...Wait."

The grunt's eyes go wide as he quickly brings his hand up to his forehead nearly slapping himself with it as he salutes. "Sir! So sorry sir! Was not expecting you to show up today sir!"

Kaz lets out a quiet sigh before raising an eyebrow at the champ and wondering how he pulled that off. What did someone around here look just like him? Judging from reactions they must be some kind of big shot. "Yeah and I'm his escort. I was just taking him too...the lab. To look at some results." It was better to be as vague as possible since they didn't know what they could even find down here.

"Oh-oh then you'd want the next hallway. That's to the cafeteria." He pointed to the next door over which Kaz gladly walked over to to hold the door open for Kyle. "Right right, they outta label these things better y'know." Missing the large bold "K" on above the door Kaz shuffled both him and Kyle into the hall as the grunt went back into his room and sigh of relief was let out by both them and Kazimir.

As they walked down the hall there was one question that was eating away at Kaz, "So who was he talking about?"

"i don't know. i just took his mask while he tried to kill me."

kyle shrugs. even he doesn't know who he stole the mask from. all he knows is that it's someone who manifested crystals akin to his knife from galar as armor.

following the instructions, kyle's eye wander around the corridor. nothing in particular catches his attention, although the cafeteria seems like a good ending for this impromptu espionage.

"so... do we have a plan or are we just winging it?"

he absolutely has no idea on what proceeds after this. he's not sure if kazimir has something up his sleeve though. he always seemed charismatic enough to hide his thoughts behind the image of a reckless fighter.

That was how the best plans came to fruition.

"I'll be honest usually things go to shi-"

"THEY'RE THEY ARE! THE IMPOSTERS!"

Both ends of the hall filled up with Grunts holding up Pokeballs, knives, and even on with a frying pan. Among them was the two that the two dog boys had knocked out leaving them with nothing but their briefs. "YOU BETTER SAY YOUR PRAYERS YOU PUNKS!" They started approaching and Kaz just cracked his knuckles. His dog growled and their hackles were raised.

"Ah there it is! So how many you think you can take? I can handle like, four at a time."

kazimir cracked his knuckles. the other grunts don't have pokemon out. he doesn't see pokeballs, and reads too much on the improvised weapons. kyle smiles as he misunderstands the situation.

"i haven't been in a brawl since i was a kid. i'm not sure. i can do two at best back then."

keeping the mightyena in its ball, he takes out a granbull instead. an obsidian knife is whipped out to match with theirs, but even with, they are unmatched in numbers.

as much as he liked spontaneity, kyle has been conditioned to do things systematically.

"granbull is getting their pokemon back to their balls the moment they get them out. let's go all out, okay?"

loosening the uniform they stole, he rushes forward as a go signal.

"You? A brawler?" He couldn't see it. Was this another mask he was putting on because of the situation? Didn't matter, the guy could probably still handle himself just fine, "Whatever, just don't lag behind!"

His lycanroc roars at the grunts to shake the spirits of a few of them as Kaz runs in and drop kicks one grunt into another sending them down. Another takes a stab at him with a knife but Kaz is both too tall and too quick to let it cut into his side, still red flecks dot the floor as Kaz takes the grunt's knife arm and swings him around into another one.

As they fall onto one another he uses them as a springboard to launch himself into a flying press onto another pair before a trio decide to take this chance to start stomping on both him and their comrades sitting right under him.
