mike (the second, ‘Commander in Chief of the Shitsquawk Brigade’) / male / drizzle / protect, hurricane, hydro pump, agility, roost, wing attack

idun / female / keen eye / agility, roost, hurricane, feather dance, air slash, wing attack

Mike the Pelipper and Idun the Pidgeot were also hard at work, propelling controlled bursts of Hurricane to keep the ugly, damned mist away from where they stood.

“Honestly. Never again,” he nodded quietly. Despite being called out all the way from Fortree, he realized that he was better off behind the front lines and running support for the League operatives…

He then tilted his head.

“Did you get into like, any trouble before you got here?” he asked his partner.

Hopefully there would be no unexpected Ultra Beast visitors of any kind…

Memo walks a path around the soft wiffs of dream mist that their Pokemon are collectively aiming up and away from them. Hopefully they reach the upper atmosphere, harmlessly, and are rendered innate. Hopefully. Memo was pinning a lot of hope on his very weak grasp of Hoenn’s weather sciences.

At the mention of scrapes, though, he went on high alert.

“Where? Where are your injuries?” he followed up, making a grab for the first-aid kit he was carrying with him as part of the support teams running around and helping patch up all the injured League operatives.

“Let me get them cleaned and patched up for you.”

He then squinted at the rift that was leaking the mist, before he sighed.

“So, love, tell me, how in the ever-living fuck do we close a rift in reality?” he posed the rhetorical question, unable to resist adding a bit of snark to their conversation.

(Or was that just his brain playing tricks on him?)

“If we’re going to plug it up with Ground-type attacks, shouldn’t we like… uh, make sure it’s airtight or something? Earth can crack after some time, you know.”

(No, he did not want to bust his partner’s bubble. But still.)

As for his other question… he blinked, very surprised.

“I didn’t know you were going to pick the same as me,” he mumbled, suddenly blushing this rich shade of red. “With… with ‘air’, I mean.”

Memo frowned down at the seam of dream mist, wishing it would just slap together like two pieces of bread on a particularly nasty sandwich. On the one hand, Alex was right, and was solving this specific right-now problem worth possibly risking the integrity of the ground and causing more problems in the future?

On the other hand… gods, was it getting hard to care. His forethought machine was fried, along with his object permanence. No one told him it got worse as he aged.

He clapped fingers over his eyes and dragged them down his face. “Ugh. I don’t know, then. What do you think we should do?”

Then Alex did this miraculous thing and blushed (when he got red, he got red everywhere. Memo knew from wonderful firsthand experience) and it was like all the problems in the world ceased to exist. Love was a wonderful power. Like filling everything with helium.

“Well, I’m already… floaty enough as it is.” He spun a finger in a circle to indicate. “Moving everywhere. Can’t slow down. Generally pretty flexible. And you taught me how to fly, so. It only makes sense that--,”

His long-winded (pun intended) profession of love was interrupted by an ear-piercing shriek. The dream mist turned dark and began to warp and writhe, shooting out like a lunging shadow as a strange Misdreavous-like Pokemon launched from it. Memo pressed palms to Alex’s chest to push him out of the way, taking the phantom force full brunt to the chest, knocking the wind out of him and turning him cold.

The blush never left his face as he realized his partner was now professing his undying—

“What was that?!” he yelped in surprise as he fell backwards—but regained his balance the moment something came shooting their way.

“Frog? F-frog, what—” he trailed off, watching everything happen in slow motion…

Before he let out a tiny little shriek of his own.

Memo hit the ground hard on his back and wheezed, recoiling and curling up like a Sandshrew. The Flutter Mane shrieked, an ear-piercing sound stuck somewhere between horror and glee.

It turned its gaze on Alex, preparing another attack, before its whole body shivered violently and it screamed again as Maelstrom’s extrasensoryrocked it.

But with the Shiftry’s attention turned from directing the dream smoke away, it began to crawl towards the two humans, seeping over Alex’s ankles and rapidly approaching Memo’s face.

He pushed himself up on one forearm and tried to suck air back into his lungs, staring at the foaming mist with wide eyes. The Flutter Mane, meanwhile, collected itself and shot a shadow ball at Memo’s Shiftry.

The Pidgeot needed no word; seeing what had happened while the Shiftry was preoccupied with the spookie-adjacent Pokémon (was it a Pokémon? It… it kind of reminded him of the mechanical Hydreigon-adjacent one he owned) and was now ready to drop everything to attack when the Pelipper yelled at the Pidgeot to leave the mist to him; as a Hurricane microburst attempted to funnel the mist away from the two.

The other avianid Pokémon then literally came screaming forward; spreading her wings wide before attempting to intercept the attack with a Wing Attack of her own.

Maybe it was a good thing that Normal-types were immune to Ghost-type moves; all things considered…?

Idun continued to scream all manner of bloody murder at the Flutter Mane (not that he knew what it was called) while he immediately rushed over to help his partner get back on his feet.

“Th-the fuck did that come from?!” he exclaimed, attempting to help the other stand up.
