"oi, look!"

priam points towards a few grunts in a weird uniform.

"do you think we can take them out and get their pokemon?" he asks parker.

there had been reports of the drk triad lingering around the area, and nikkari and priam both seemed interested enough to hunt them down. it didn't take them long to locate them.

they usually have unown and nothing else. priam thinks that's a good enough reason to go for the easy targets for their pokemon instead of the actual bigshots.

for once, he's not out there by himself and he's quite honestly happy about the change of pace. jayden cross has had his hands full; nikkari's can't blame him. the people he and his companion are looking at have supposedly been hunting avatars.

useful. clever. skilled. loyal. genius.

five adjectives is what he'd gotten when nikkari haphazardly asked after priam. so he has a measure of respect for him, nodding when he suggests the plan.

"i suggest we take the stealthier approach. they are assassins trained to take out avatars, are they not?" alecto lurches upright from where she'd been hiding in his shadow and cackles. from the trees, his decidueye coos.

they were trained to take out avatars, but...

"we aren't avatars, so that means they can't take us on!"

he wants to shout, but his voice had been muted the moment nikkari had the suggestion. he follows after his lead, even after what he said. if they can defeat them, it's because they aren't avatars, which still means he was right.

priam takes out his shroomish, one of his most unassuming pokemon.

"we can do this then." he lets his shroomish use spore, which priam fans out to the direction of the grunts with a leaflet about area zero. "they'll just think it's pollen season."

it won't be as potent as if used at close ranged, but being drowsy is good enough.

the shroomish isn't a half bad idea and the corner of his lips twitch in a smile. he nods and gets a bit closer, motioning for quiet as they approach.

maybe they might overhear something useful. he pauses, hesitating, but the agents linger about quietly, their unown floating stoically above them.

he casts a glance at his companion and gestures for him to take the stage.

they were getting less perceptive, priam can tell. even if it was just his imagination, self-confidence punctures through.

priam grabs his shroomish and chucks it at them. upon impact, a much more potent cloud of spores are released by the pokemon. it drops the drk triad agents to the ground, alongside their unown.

he turns to nikkari, smiling wide as he awaits for a reaction from him.

"not bad right?" he says, fishing for a compliment. "that's the patented shroomish bomb where i throw a shroomish and they all die."

they didn't actually die.

the shroomish sails through the air. palamedes, from his place in the trees, looks on in earnest, phantasmal bow drawn in case things go south. alecto is absolutely overjoyed and clasps her furry little hands together, cackling under her breath.

when the agents fall, one by one, their unown startle to action.

"good. if they're dead, that's less agents to hunt our own. looks like their unown aren't happy with us though."

spirit shackle pins one of them to the ground. alecto eviscerates another (sorry, nomi), but three more converge on them.

"go shroomish! distract them while i pilfer their pokeballs from these guys!"

the shroomish isn't sure of what to do. there's only so much a pokemon like itself can do, but it goes for the offensive, blowing everything up around it with seed bomb.

each explosion blows up the ground, causing the dirt to cloud up.

priam returns to nikkari with a report. "they don't have pokeballs with them," he complains. "looks like we just need to get rid of them."

a beam of hidden power zaps near priam's foot, causing him to jump.

"what the-"

each unown starts firing off their attacks indiscriminately when they cannot see their targets.

so much for the liberation operation. after priam abandons his dig through the drk triad tactical gear, nikkari sticks a finger in his mouth and whistles sharply.

palamedes flies from above. the unown's attacks aren't accurate, but sooner or later they'll hit a lucky shot. alecto, on the other hand, thrives in the chaos. while palamedes strikes them down from the air, she emerges from the shadows, gnarled fingers around their cordlike bodies.

"if we can't take them with us, we make sure they're dead." both halves to a whole. and at nikkari's command, alecto wails with glee, happy to tear apart human throats instead.

priam swallows, but he understands. the dust subsides eventually, giving his shroomish visuals.

"leech seed, shroomy."

the pokemon starts shooting small seeds that germinate on contact, wrapping its roots on the already small pokemon. not only does it sap their strength, but it also weighs them down with how small they are.

"that should make them easy targets, right?"

at the end of the day, his shroomish doesn't have enough power to actually kill one. at least nikkari was equipped with pokemon that can do the job.
