At times Monty would go and help the morticians on Mt. Pyre keep the gravestones clean. It wasn’t his favorite pastime ever, but it was something to do for some side cash. Not to mention, he believed in respecting the dead. Regardless of how their life measured.

Usually he would teleport back home, but something caught his ears. A song. A melody that wasn’t typical of this area. When he traversed toward the noise, he laid eyes on a person and their singing lapras.

Knowing full well the wild Pokémon of the area didn’t take kindly to strangers, he removed a heal ball from his belt and released his kirlia, Radiance.

”Did you train her vocalizing? Or did you receive her that way? She has a stunning voice. Nearly sounds human.”

The sight of the giant bird made Monty consider catching it. It was flying, it was also water. Two things he had needed more of recently. There was also this 'no biased' bet he had going with a friend. He tended to not catch Pokemon simply because he didn't think they matched him.... apparently that's not how he was supposed to operate.

Either way, this Swana didn't seem happy, so Monty tossed out his kirlia, Radiance, and then crossed his arms in thought. Swana didn't typically dish out critical hits but it was better safe than sorry.

"Keep your guard up, then counter from here as best you can. It might be best if he gets close to startle him."

Radiance followed the vague commands, surrounding herself in a dazzling display of energy as she prepared herself for battle with her lucky chant. The swana responded by flapping its wings with a cry, as if trying to defog the area.

When the swana's move appeared to fail, Radiance decided it was time to make an offensive move, eyes glowing as her psychic power twisted and gripped onto the swana, nearly invisible assaults made on the dual type. It countered with glowing wings, thrusting down an air slash at the kirlia.

Radiance took the hit in order to stay concentrated on using her psychic. It seemed to be enough, causing the swana to retreat and fly off, likely to go roost somewhere away from them.

"Need help?"

Monty asked the girl, moving a hand over Radiance to congratulate her. She at the attention up by turning in giddy circles beside him.

Deciding to ignore the fact that the girl sounded as if she were bossing Monty around -- maybe she was actually just giving Monty a go ahead? -- Monty did as he was apparently told.

"Sweet Radiance, if you would be as so kind as to drop a rock on that cloyster?"

With a curtsy, Radiance twinkled her toes as she moved over toward a rock. A tap of the rock with her hand had her teleport moving the rock up and over where the cloyster was, dropping it into the water before the cloyster had a chance to resurface.

"Should have scared it off enough. I'm Monty Conway, by the by."

Seeing the young trainer ‘battle’ and catch the wailmer had Monty smiling warmly. How beautiful it was to see such vigor in a trainer. Reminded him of how much he missed traveling. But, he was happy where he was in life. For the most part. He would like more battles...

“Bravo.” Monty smiled. “A well controlled song. Neither I nor my Radiance here feel the slightest bit drowsy. That’s a feat with such a move, so, well done.”

Praising her was simple enough. It was honest as well. He would have been pissed if that lapras’ song had the jigglypuff effect instead.

Monty gave a beaming smile, nodding at the trainer who was taller than him. Not a surprise. He was honestly so used to it by now. And she hadn’t mentioned it or threatened his ego so, no quarrel would be found for the time being.

“She’s a beautiful dancer, but much like me it’s a secondary pleasure. A hobby. We much prefer coming out and making sure the Pokémon of the world are being treated fairly.”

Bullshit. He was out and about looking for a bird or a water type that didn’t make him cringe. So far he was having no such luck, which was very annoying.
