sometimes, words have more weight than stones

a humble series of books

[attr="class","ipad"]
The manuscripts had floated around for awhile but weren't taken seriously until about 7 years ago when an old man in rustboro cashed in on an old favor from a regular. It was a shot in the dark, a hope beyond hope to give something to someone that desperately needed what the series was named for- they needed their own soul to be preserved.
[break][break]
And perhaps that is why the series has been so well received, even amongst demographics that they didn't project decent numbers in. The stories are authentic, straight from the source or based on them with the source involved in the final decision making or otherwise based off of the many variables that take part in creating the stories held within their pages.
[break][break]
Few who read it know that the pen name belongs to a man who was once a scared little boy who took solace in the same stories he now shares with the rest of the world. He poured his heart and soul into remembering them, retelling them, and has only delved deeper since the first book made its way onto shelves across the regions.
[break][break]
Once a year a new compilation of stories, myths, urban legends and other such tales is released to the public on new years day.

Content & goals

[break]

The preservation series is best known perhaps, for the variety of its pages. The author has sought out and collected stories from across every known region regarding just about everything from charming happenstances in our day to day lives to urban legends or stories of the legendary pokemon alike. When granted the opportunity to light is shed on the local tribes and native peoples, their unique stories and takes on the area and great care is taken into sharing their way of life with the public at large.

[break][break]

While many of the installments are focused no a specific region parallels in another one are often drawn, variations pointed out and in many ways the series serves to draw connections between places that one may not expect to find any. Often times things are broken down in a way that allows the public to not just understand these stories but perhaps find a connection of their own to them so that they may be taken to heart and remembered as that is the ultimate goal of the books. They seek to bring these old stories and ways of life back to life, to make them something the public takes an interest in and acknowledges and respects where they might otherwise be falling to the wayside as society and humanity move forward. Even pieces that have not fallen off the radar yet, if only so that they can be found somewhere the day that they do.

[break][break]
In the last two or so years there has also been a rise in the author's pen name surfacing in magazine articles across the regions. Many of these articles are along the same vein as what he is already known for writing.

general reception

[break]

The building reputation of the preservation series is a hefty one, not only have the books garnered popularity but the praise of those that helped contribute to their contents has done nothing but gain them further traction over the years. Their reputation is held in high regard through the Author's own actions and beliefs. Much of the proceeds are donated to those involved int their making, what the author keeps is rarely used and quickly donated whenever a major event happens that leaves people in need. The overall generosity of the author and their involvement with the PRESERVATION PROJECT has made buying the series a feel good act as much as an interesting one.

The author

[break]

"Atticus Maine" is a man that few have actually seen the face of. His picture is never featured in the books nor in any articles related to them, largely at his request. It's not uncommon for him to deny things that would force him to show his face and while some chalk it up to some kind of gimmick it has been long running enough for any publicity from it to have worn thin. It is generally accepted that the name is nothing more than a Pen name to ensure the author retains some sort of privacy.
[break][break]
Those that have encountered the man in the flesh are expected to keep his real name and face, @ evan, under wraps and so far it has been respected. It helps that his appearances outside of conversing with contributors to his books have been kept minimal and only really began occurring recently as he's known for always being on the move.
[break][break]
If asked about this he states that he does not want the publicity tied to his face, the goal of his books is not to make him famous. They are meant to inspire people to take an interest in their surrounding culture and lore and perhaps, move them into actively taking part in it and to hold on to the parts that are being forgotten because while the world should never stop moving forward it should not forget where it came from either.
[break][break]
He is affectionately refereed to as the Chronicler for the time and care he takes in his tellings of the old stories and his respect for those whose ways of life are often featured in his books.

the rest

[break]

There is a total of 7 installments at the moment, the eighth awaiting release.
[break][break]
In honour of the Kanto invasion and the attempted invasion of both Johto and semi-successful one of Hoenn a special edition release of their installments has recently hit shelves. These editions contain an extra chapter featuring stories from those affected by the actions of Rocket in their respective regions. The proceeds from these special editions will be redirected to the regions in question, their refugees and others affected by the Rocket invasion via the PRESERVATION PROJECT and their numerous activities in the areas affected.
[break][break]
The preservation series is considered the inspiration for the PRESERVATION PROJECT, a charitable group that seeks to aid those in need while also preserving local histories and artifacts. They're well known for restoration projects of items, buildings and sites.
