A dog sniffs blood. Drawn by the scent, he realizes too late that he is prey. Confident, having been supplied with evolution stones and other materials that turn his team into a force to be reckoned with, he strides forward. Confident in his victory, he feels like he could take on any of the Elite 4. Whether it’s Matias Silph, Katherine Fairburne, Melody Miro, or Callan Young, Hitoshi thinks he has them dead to rights. It’s an animal’s overconfidence.[break]
Two at once just means he gets paid extra.[break]
When he arrives at the designated spot and only sees him, his lips curl in annoyance. Putting a hand on his forehead, he sighs. Of course it’s this wise guy.[break][break]
“Oi! Oi! Where the hell’s the elite 4?! You guardin’ ‘em or somethin’?! Tell ‘em to come out and fight me!” Hitoshi shouts as he unleashes Baiken, his Kleavor. The Pokemon wastes no time, swinging his stone axe out at the trainer.

“Man,” Hitoshi says, laughing as space-time distorts itself around him, “I could get used to this!” Strange Pokemon from another time come through the rift. He’s supposed to be here protecting some scientist types doing research, but the simple truth is that he’s having way too much fun.[break]
Two of his Pokemon are out on the field. Dewott and Scyther. Two of his heavy hitters. They’re faring just fine right now. Fighting on the frontlines like a pair of warriors should. Dewott attacks with the shell on his belly, drawing it with the speed and precision of a proper samurai. Scyther’s blows flow from one into the next. His battlecry rings true.[break]
Somewhere along the way, both of them start to glow.[break]
“Eh?” Hitoshi blinks. Their form shifts and twists. Dewott takes on the visage of a shogun. Roaring in triumph as he carves apart his foes with his horn. Meanwhile, Scyther’s scythes are replaced by two long, jagged axes.[break]
“Maaan!” Hitoshi cheers. “Christmas came early this year!”[break][break]
[Dewott evolves into H!Samurott and learns Ceaseless Edge][break]
[Scyther evolves into Kleavor and learns Stone Axe][break]
[Hitoshi claims a red shard]

What in the hell is he supposed to say to that? Is he supposed to bawl? Tell his life story? Tell this guy his mom kicked him out and said to never show his face again?[break]
No, this isn’t the place for any of that. There’s no place for sentiment on the battlefield. But he’ll play along. Pulling away, he pulls out his empty pokeball and pulls his knocked out Honedge back into the ball. He can rest easy now. Muramasa has played his part, however minor, in this battle.[break]
This guy’s so extra. Hitoshi muses that he probably could have gotten him to pick up the sword. The evil spirit inside would curse and kill him.[break]
“Sure, man. Whatever. Yeah. Screw it.” He sounds like a wounded dog, and he skulks off into the shadows like one.[break]
That’s just the sort of animal that Hitoshi Inoue is.

“Eh? Eeeeeh? Let go! Let. GO!” This 28 year old man sounds like he’s on the cusp of throwing a tantrum. He’s lost here. There’s no other way around it. It’s the first loss that he has suffered today. Behind him, Muramasa faints. It really is, one hundred percent, an irrevocable lost. The taller man has him locked in place like a petulant child. The broken blade that’s thrown somewhere else in the cave was covered in the blood of League cadets. Rangers who will never get to go out on another mission. Gone because of him.[break]
“I’m never gonna get to see her anyway. Bitch doesn’t want me anymore.”[break]
He blinks. It’s the first time he’s ever said those words out loud to anyone. He’s saying them to some random League loser dressed in biker leathers. His hand caught in the blonde’s grasp tightens into a fist. He makes a real, pronounced effort to try and pull back now.[break]
“…fine. You can have this dumb cave entrance. Not like I give a shit about what’s in that rift anyway.” He grumbles. “I just get paid for every League scalp. I get a cool milly if I can take down an elite 4 member or the champion.”[break]
He defaults to sharing far, far too much information.

A tanto flies free from its scabbard. The dog howls and launches himself at the other man. He doesn’t even notice that his Pokemon’s on the brink of fainting. Breathing heavy. The spirit inside of the sword has almost given up the ghost. The dog is angered by what this man has to say. Some kid who never grew up is striking him at his core in a way no cold steel ever could.[break]
“Shut up!” He screams as his blade flies at the taller man’s face. It misses, because the words have made him see red. He flies into a rapid flurry of attacks. Stabbing forward. Side to side, doing every frantic motion he can to cut this guy off.[break]
“Shut up! Shut up! Shutup shutup shutupshutup! You talk way too damn much!” He finishes his point by accentuating it with one final thrust anyone who’s taken a punch in his life can avoid.

“And why the hell should I care about them?!” Hitoshi’s been killing people to survive since he was young. A kid that fell through the gutters of the world. Running with gangs. Getting initiated. Getting put to good use by people who can see him for the bloodthirsty dog that he is. That he hasn’t ended up dead or in jail is a minor miracle of Arceus and his chosen guardians.[break]
“If they care ‘bout that stuff so much, maybe they should just be better at not gettin’ cut up! C’mon, Muramasa! Finish this guy off already! I’m gettin’ sick of this mirror match stuff!”[break]
Oh, if a sword could roll its eyes…[break]
Muramasa resolves to put everything he has into this blow. Once more into the breach. As the fury within his opponent builds, so too does he break out another sacred sword, hoping to counter the many furious blows with one decisive swipe.[break]
It’s an all or nothing play. He’ll be tapped out after this.[break]
Hell, it might even be a double KO.

“The hell does it matter if I am or not?!” Hitoshi shouts, stomping his feet like a petulant child. At least his Honedge is spirited, despite everything. The blade recoils from the sheer power of their clash. If a blade could breathe, he would be. Muramasa would be breathing heavy. He’s naught but a wee baby Pokemon. He’s sure that the other blade can’t be doing much better.[break]
“What’s this gotta be doing with anything, anyway?! We’re supposed to be killin’ each other here and we’re talkin’ about my mama!” Like the stupid dog he is, he can’t comprehend the deeper meaning of such questions. All he knows is the battle that’s right in front of him. There’s glory here, to be sure. A delicious conflict.[break]
This guy sucks. He’s making Hitoshi think.[break]
Muramasa chooses to retaliate after the brutal blow from before, leveling a brutal swing at his foe.

“Nani?!” Hitoshi shouts as the other Honedge reappears behind Muramasa. The other sword is shocked and makes no reply to being attacked other than to scream in surprise. That’s really all he could hope to do, right? Shriek and pray that something could save him. [break]
Hitoshi himself jumps forward. His katana soars through the air in a red streak and makes contact with the enemy Honedge. He forgets, for a second, that he’s supposed to be an aloof badass. [break]
His katana snaps in two. It’s just a normal sword standing up to a Pokémon. In days past, when legends walked the earth, even the smallest and weakest of Pokémon was a terror for the people. [break]
Muramasa is moved by his trainer. He channels his might and unleashes a sacred sword, tearing into the other Honedge. [break]
“I am not a mama’s boy!” The mama’s boy shouts.

…anything he had ever cared about? The question stops Hitoshi in his tracks he remembers the mother who threw him out. He remembers how good it feels to have food in his belly after so long being hungry on the streets. He remembers how nice it feels to have money in his pockets. After having to work so hard simply to survive…[break]

“Huh? What?! Idiot, who the hell asks a question like that in the middle of a battlefield!! Dontcha get what’s goin on? People are dyin! People are bein’ killed! My mom ain’t got anything to do with any of that!”[break]
He doesn’t even realize he answered the question.

A name? Hitoshi laughs as the two swords clash. Red energy meets eclectic white. A rush of blood. A thrill like few others. A good fight. He does not notice his Pokemon’s apprehension, nor does he care. He stays on the offensive. He moves forward. He fights. For that is all he knows how to do. This mad dog cannot do anything except swing his sword and fight.[break][break]
Honedge goes in for a simple slash. Nothing fancy. Nothing overt. A clash of its steel body against that of his foe’s.[break][break]
“Hitoshi.” The black dog says. “But you can call me the grim reaper.”
