the dark froth of the sea splashes on the rocks. as the ultra beast rushes for them, noah can feel the hairs on his neck curl like sea ferns pulled back by an ominous tide. under the flickering glow of @iris's tossed stun baton, noah faber is quick to solidify his position beside June Fair.

the HURRICANE of Noelle Lane's gyarados stirs the seas rough as it whips against the buzzwole. when he sees June Fair's mr. mime attempt to PSYCHIC it in place; he orders his machamp forth.

"DYNAMIC PUNCH HIM," noah roars, "STAY ON YOUR TOES!" he adds, wary of the buzzwole's capabilities— but also warning his pokemon of the icy ground. "BUTLER," he calls for his unfezant, "WATCH HIS BACK!"

his falinks rushes forth, emboldening its defenses with a NO RETREAT, ready to be the second wave of defense should his first two pokemon fail. his medicham leaps closer to @iris and Noelle Lane before conjuring a disc of psychic energy within its pale hands. a PSYCHO CUT whips between ICE BEAMS and DRAGON DARTS toward the muscular alien.

"GOOD TO SEE YOU, STONE!" noah shouts to DAPHNE STONE, but he doesn't look back. his gaze, armoured with furrowed brow, remains transfixed on the threat before them.

however, the sudden flare of electricity flickers across his face. as his falinks rush forward, noah hoists one into his arms. the gym leader leaps, landing deftly on to the shore with his sand-caked shoes beside Noelle Lane. as the THUNDERBOLTS arc toward them, noah hurls a falinks unit into the air. it lands atop of a tower of falinks as they PROTECT, hoping to protect June Fair from being struck down.

he nestles himself beside @iris' aegislash, taking cover underneath its KING'S SHIELD as his unfezant and medicham DETECT for further threats ahead.

taking a moment to catch his breath, noah gasps, dark hair drenched against his face. "thanks."

before taking cover, his machamp would lunge away from escorting June Fair's mr. mime, attempting to DYNAMIC PUNCH a naganadel and its rider before rolling into cover on the rocks.

noah's medicham staggers backwards, the aggressive maneuver catching the pokemon off-guard. its chest refuses to collapse under the blaziken's foot, and so does the injured medicham. as the medicham falls, its arms lunge for the bird's leg, attempting to bring the blaziken down to the canvas with it.

his falinks scatter. they roll like cabbages thrown off a mercantile cart from the EXPANDING FORCE of oscar's exeggutor. those thrown further must take more time to reach the exeggutor, but three find themselves in an advantageous position enough to lunge at the exeggutor with HEADBUTTS.

they stagger their head-on attacks, attempting to FLINCH the tree in order to bide enough time for their remaining comrades to catch up.

noah calls out to his opponent, "you're pretty focused, aren't you? i'll break your cool soon enough!"

noah's machamp lunges beside June Fair's mr. mime. lifting all four arms, it elongates the psychic pokemon's WIDE GUARD, providing cover for their trainers against meteor shrapnel.

worried eyes flicker in the briny wind as chaos descends upon the coast. as he knocks a megalopolan soldier down with a sweep of his leg, his unfezant conjures a TAILWIND for his group. the bird soars forth, scouting ahead as they navigate thinning rocky shore.

"HURRY!" he cries, voice searching for Noelle Lane and @iris among the hastening winds.

his falinks march forth: a moving fence of protection should any enemy come near. noah's medicham rushes too, an ICE PUNCH shattering into a naganadel that comes close.

noah's machamp would linger, waiting for June Fair's mime. it would give the pokemon the escort it needs should no one else be able to while the gym leader races to keep up with her.

the trampled pokemon render the endeavor as pyrrhic. still, noah twists the macabre sight as preparation for the upcoming war. it seems as if he hasn't been able to escape the violence after all.

as the scolipede roll like rotten cheese wheels, noah directs his machamp to spread its arms. four fists bloom as they crash against against magenta carapace: WIDE GUARD.

"never been asked for a refund, man." noah knocks gently against the other. eyes close, for he cares little about being watched or not. half-yawning and half-smiling, he speaks like a muted trumpet. "five star reviews oooonly."

he opens one eye, searching for reactions or further teasing. but eventually, fatigue settles in once more. eyelids grow heavy as the taxi leaves the borders of goldenrod.

"yeah, you should've seen the video of them eating a guy." as soon as the words leave him, noah's jaw stiffens. he shakes his head quick, "on second though, you shouldn't."

ahead, the megalopolans wander about the camp. a campfire dances by those sitting on beach logs. his eyes flicker from figure to figure. they chat amongst themselves casually while a naganadel rests by the flame.

"i see... three sitting around a fire with a dragon, two holding hands near the shore."

he whispers, hand pressed against the cold rock.

"we should strike while their guards are down... i can send my turtonator out to start things off with a bang. they won't know what it can do." noah says. his unfezant watches nearby, perched quietly on an outcropping. "we can rush in quick after my unfezant here gives us a tailwind. let's pick targets. want the campsite or the beachside lovers?"

"dangerous like you could get hurt dangerous," noah says.

when one despairs, the imagination thickens with gnarled roots. noah's imagination wanders too. it takes steps into what-ifs and what-coulds, placing adrian in the center of violent glades.

silence settles, but the gym leader does not avert his gaze or retreat. finally, he speaks.

"if you say so." noah's breath falls slow. "but you know you can reach me at anytime, man." he grins, hoping to lift the spirits of the room.

"just a call or text away."

noah reaches the summit of their mountain. as ash rides faint winds, he and his machamp seek the beautiful sight ahead. the vast scars of steep stone and the golden crowns of rocky ledges look beautiful from up high: a treasure unseen when scraping knees and roughening hands.

a clobbopus has beat them here. and has beat an outcropping of rock that would have marred the view. unfortunately, it has lost a tentacle. although one would grow again, infantile curiosity brings it closer to noah and his pokemon despite its weakness. they sit on the sooty ground, resting in the pass' quiet before leaving together.

perhaps, it's an unspoken connection between fighters. they bond quietly during their trek. after all, the machamp's extra arms compensate for one missing tentacle.

noah frown grows deeper. as he downs the majority of his beverage, he crinkles the aluminum with his fingers. with the taste of hops tingling against his palate, noah shakes his head.

"this is gonna sound stupid cliche, man, but," noah says, "you don't need to go through this alone." before he sets his can aside for the last time, his eyes cut across its silver edge. "do you know the guy?"

he pats the other on the shoulder.

"i just don't want you getting into some dangerous stuff, man."
