It was a surprise for her to see his name written in her schedule.

Katherine imagined that Kosuke wasn't the type to challenge gyms, but she was excited to see a familiar face rather than that of a pesky, wanna-be champion. Those were the worst challengers. "You know, normal people just say something like 'I missed you'."

Her smile has that hint of the casual, rocket smugness that flowed in her veins.

"But if it gives you an excuse to come and visit, I guess I can work another shift or two in some bakery." She turns to lead the way, pacing through a mirrored hall. "How are you doing?"

Kat is courteous enough to ask about his well-being, but her experience tells her that an honest answer isn't something she should expect.

"I didn't want to leave Slateport at first."

Katherine doesn't feel like it's worth hiding. She liked living in the big city and it was one of the only things that held her back from moving away at first, "Then I saw the paycheck. It made packing my bags a lot easier." That, as well, is not something she has any intention of hiding.

"And I think I like it here, anyway. I got to design this place without anyone telling me what I can or can't do."

She did have a budget though, and she wasn't so keen on mentioning that she went past it. Oops. A Pokeball is retrieved and a shiny Vespiquen escapes from within it. The buzzing her wings create goes along with the pressure she exudes.

"Her name is Malice. The first move is yours."

Her answer is dry and plain. She maintained an excited expression during the meeting with Walsh, yes, but she wasn't all too pleased about being gifted a clown who's known for its exploding head. She could handle fire and explosions. But why did it have to be a clown?

Malice buzzes, almost as if asking to be released of some imaginary constraints.

When Katherine finally gives the bug-type a nod, she acts. Her body radiates a light, blue hue before enhancing her speed, allowing her to zip through the air and acrobatically strike the Sylveon.

"I am not a big fan of clowns. But if he thinks it's better in my hands than someone else's, who am I to judge?"

Her tone grows agitated, half due to the Sylveon's COPYCAT and half because she didn't know what to answer Marcel. What is she meant to do with that thing except use it to aid Rocket?

The Vespiquen takes advantage of the close proximity between Amor and herself, shooting off a SLUDGE BOMB with the intent of poisoning her opponent if she's lucky. "I am not dumb. I know what that thing can do. You don't need to be worried."

Katherine knows he wasn't worried about her, at least not specifically, but it doesn't mean she can't tease him about it. The barrier provided by the fairy-type's PROTECT gives Katherine's partner a moment to recollect— which is all the queen-bee needs before issuing a HEAL ORDER to restore her health.

"What do you think about the others?" She won't name them in public, of course, but it should be obvious that she's referring to the other gifts. The shadowfied Lugia and the Darkrai. "Did you know he was going to do that?"

Another SLUDGE BOMB is shot at the Sylveon, "I knew about the position before the meeting, I even told him I'll accept it. But I was also surprised by his gift."

And it left her with a single question: what did Walsh have to gain from this?

She isn't sure whether if she's lying to Marcel or herself, "I just wish it wasn't a clown. That's all." If it was any other Ultra Beast, well... Katherine probably would have felt a lot more excited about the gift. This one, however, she wasn't so sure about.

Arrogance was her hubris. She would rather fail than avoid trying to tame the creature.

The LIGHT SCREEN illuminates the arena once more, and Vespiquen pushes through despite it, utilizing the same move as before: SLUDGE BOMB. She won't take another offensive route against Sylveon, if only because the feline's capabilities of copying moves put her at a severe disadvantage.
