there’s no wind, the stillness in the air uncharacteristic at best. if she thought about it, persephone thought she could see smoke rising above the western horizon; a trick of the light, an interplay of the setting sun's light and cloud wisps.

the siege was long since over, but she can't leave it alone.

returning as close the scene of the crime - as close as she dares - as though she can somehow do something differently now.

she doesn't see it coming, and that's what makes it all the worse because she should know better, be more careful. nikolai's words crack in her mind like a whip. the violet shock wave of a dragon pulse from the water throws her a short distance, though thankfully still against sand.

she finds herself idly wondering about the grunt she had instructed her pokemon to cast aside at the power plant with the same move. did his bones break when he hit the ground? the steel grate? was he expecting it? was he alive?

the pokemon at the water's edge couldn't follow her onto the land, but that didn't stop it from attacking again with a water pulse, which she managed to side-step this time.

the manectric was out of his pokeball with uncharacteristic speed; the seadra was retrieved at floundering at her feet even quicker. even its agility couldn't save it. throwing the pokeball to capture it was a reflex, nothing more.
