it was a wonder no one had hassled utah about a license yet. she had been ready to test for it for years, but the price tag was too high. she couldn’t bring herself to ask her dad for help; he didn’t have it, anyways. this was why getting a call from someone in the league every so often excited utah. it meant she could take off in the helicopter anyways without finding herself on james’ shit list. he’d find her there, already in the seat, waiting for him. “kaz! what’s up?!” grinning, utah fitted a headset around her friend’s head and slapped it for good measure. she then went to work, preparing, checking gauges, flipping switches. the rotor turned. “ya ready?” not waiting for an answer, her hand pulled up on the collective. it listed drunkenly to the left for a moment, before she corrected with her right toe. it’d been a while. jax the boltund, with his muffs secure over his ears, barked behind them excitedly. she pushed forward on the cyclic some and they were soon ascending over trees. once they had reached controlled airspace, she completed some radio communications and turned to him, yelling over the loudness, “i think i’m making progress on that hoverbike! might have it done on tuesday!” pulling his leg. “five mill, like we agreed, right?” they were headed a city over, to mt. chimney, to place the castform that were held in a container behind the seat.    |
