The woman at the mouth of Shoal cave stands stiffly, with her over-sized scarf wrapped around her shoulders. She tucks it over her nose, protecting her skin from the bite of the cold.[break][break]

With the winter months arriving in Hoenn, the area was much colder than normal. It was the perfect time to find the maiden she had been searching for. [break][break]

Her Drifblim deflates when icy wind blows from the cave. Whatever hot-air remains in the ghost-type is immediately replaced with the cold, and Thea glances at the Pokemon briefly before whisking it back into its pokeball.[break][break]

Instead, she sends out a Delphox. The Pokemon's wand ignites, and she holds it out for the woman, not to take, but to stand next to. It illuminates the cave and the icy walls within, and grants them both some semblance of warmth.[break][break]

"Well then... shall we?"[break][break]

There is a noise akin to a mewling pup, and Thea's attention shifts to the now-retreating form of an Alolan-variant Vulpix. It's six tails bounce as it flees. The timid nature of the young Pokemon comes as a result of Delphox's bobbing wand of fire. It was of no issue for the woman, as the tiny fox Pokemon was not what she was searching for, nor did she have the time to train another young Pokemon.[break][break]

Though her eyes squint temporarily as she considers how useful it could have been, had the Pokemon stayed for longer than a breath, to capture it for one of her students.[break][break]

"Another time, perhaps. Come along, Delphox, we should keep moving."[break][break]

The dual-type dips their head, dress skirts shifting as she takes to following her master. Thea exhales, her breath frosting before her eyes. She hums to herself quietly, eyes searching the dimness of the cavern ahead of her.[break][break]

Something hums back, chiming in with its music, sing-song voice as it comes out from around a corner. Thea stares at it, thoroughly perplexed by the sight of such a bizarre-looking Pokemon. It's twin smiling faces mirror her expression, and the swish of Delphox's wand encourages the Pokemon to move on.[break][break]

Icicle spears fall down the tunnel in its wake, but none of them are especially threatening. They smash as they hit the ground, and their traversal further proves just a bit more slippery.[break][break]

The temperature drops dramatically, the woman's breath practically freezing the moment its exhaled. Not even Delphox's flames can combat this type of sheer cold. Several more icicle spears fall from the ceiling, and it is due to Delphox's quick-thinking that her trainer is not impaled. Warmth spreads where she is grabbed, and Thea gasps as her feet meet the ground once more.[break][break]

Just ahead of her, a territorial and afraid Dewgong lies. There is a pool of water leading out and into - what she hopes to be - a larger body of water. Several Seel are nearby but attached to the hip of other, older Dewgong. This one appears to be the odd one out, unpaired and unafraid. It slaps its tail against the water, splashing both she and Delphox in it's icy droplets. [break][break]

Ultimately, their battle is won due to sheer perseverance and Delphox's affinity for psychic powers. By suspending the Pokemon in the air and scorching its underbelly, the Pokemon remains unable to splash water and defeat them. Thea, uninterested in pursuing their elusive prey, opts to capture the Dewgong and head back home.[break][break]
