The blonde's smile simply returned, the man snickering as the 'tartness' swept past him either ignored or unnoticed. Perhaps establishing a little groundwork had served to make the man less skittish.

"A distinct possibility." He said, grasping his chin as his grin grew. "But then again, I would have been an awful boyfriend, so at least it saved someone a lot of grief."

He had been laser focused in his youth- a guy who was thinking about strategies while on a date, if he even accepted to go on a date, would have probably been an awful boyfriend.

That aside...

"A teacher?" He said, tilting his head. "From that Academy?"

He seemed to take a moment to look her up and down again, reconsidering his biases again as he re-sized her up.

"I underestimated you, then. Didn't think I would meet someone of that caliber while out on a stroll." He said, stroking his chin with a grin... while slowly reaching for his pokeballs with his other hand.

He paused within a second of starting however, biting the inside of his cheek.

"Perhaps another time." He said, aware she had probably noticed his intent. "Pardon my eagerness."

It wasn't courteous to challenge a lady- not when one considered the direction the conversation had taken.

"The Academy is on winter break right now, correct?" He said, crossing his arms over his cheek. "I interrupted your vacation then... my apologies."

He craned his head back while holding his chin, humming in thought.

"Perhaps you may allow me to make up to you? It's nearing lunch time- may I invite you to eat with us?"

As he said this, his gaze was drawn upwards by a shadow as it swept over them. He blinked in surprise as a Delibird floated above them, waving in a friendly manner with a sack of gifts slung over its shoulder before it reached into it and produced two gift boxes, swooping down to leave them at the two's feet before flying off with a salute.

"... Curious."

Thea dips her head, surprisingly content with the man's response.[break][break]

"Perhaps it was for the better of both parties for you to focus on your career. There's nothing wrong or dishonorable about pursuing your career above all else. What good would marrying do if you weren't prepared?"[break][break]

Her lips part slightly in surprise as Gwyar pauses in his thought to consider her introduction. Her eyebrows raise gently as he looks her up and down, as though she is confused as to what he might possibly find.[break][break]

And she does not miss the man's reach for his belt, fingertips brushing polished pokeballs. Thea waits while he eventually overcomes his own passion to settle back into conversation. There is a note of amusement on her cheek.[break][break]

"Of that caliber?"[break][break]

Was he flattering her?[break][break]

But he soon moves on to apologies, and she raises a hand to stop him.[break][break]

"They are on winter break, but you didn't interrupt my vacation. I spoke to you first, did I not?"[break][break]

She tilts her head to observe him patiently while he hums in thought. The man was very characteristic and open with his facial expressions, and she quite honestly found herself mildly enamored by them and his lack of.. shyness.[break][break]

When he invites her to join him for lunch, Thea blinks in surprise, stunned both by his offer and then by the Delibird that sets presents down at their feet. She hesitates before responding and retrieving the box.[break][break]

"Like I said.. there's nothing to apologize for, Mr. Wledig, but I couldn't possibly deny you a request to chat over lunch."[break][break]

From the corner of her eye, an Alolan Persian prowls. Just as it is about to approach and inevitably attempt to tackle them both, Thea's Drifblim returns to deal with the threat. The ghost-type takes down the Persian with efficiency, at first sapping its strength before blasting it with a shadow ball. Another pokeball is thrown in order to capture the feline, and tucked away discreetly in Thea's purse.[break][break]

"It's a date, then." Said Gwyar, smiling.

Not a single pokemon captured on his part so far, but he couldn't say this outing had been disappointing. A date was a far rarer opportunity for the usually busy man.

"We can set camp a little further." He said, peering over her shoulder in the distance. Once they were out of the rocky area. "I hope a little more walking won't be a deal breaker."

As they began to make their way forward...

"Are your students handling it well?" He said as they walked. "The strife assaulting Hoenn, I mean."

The Hoenn region's past 3 years had been some of the most eventful and chaotic in recent history for any Developed Nation out there. He couldn't imagine how it must have been for children to be at the center of such terrifying events.

His forward comment incites raised eyebrows and genuine surprise out of the woman's polite, composed expression. The woman hesitates, apparently quite bewildered to the point that words don't immediately come out to play.[break][break]

Instead, she finds herself saying nothing at all, and instead following his gaze when he peeks over her shoulder. [break][break]

"A date.."[break][break]

She joins him as he moves past her to walk toward their supposed destination, and is relieved when the young man ventures to continue their idle conversation.[break][break]

"Most of them are, yes, for the most part. The students I teach are young and impressionable, however, so it's important that we keep their spirits up."[break][break]

If they lost faith or lost hope, Hoenn's next generation of heroes and strong, capable trainers would be lost.[break][break]

The man nodded gravely.

"Indeed. I can't imagine how it must feel to see their home torn up like this." He said. Galar had been enjoying a period of peace for a long while now. Most nations had- until Rocket.

"But nevertheless, they must stand strong. Strength in front of adversity is something most Galarian children learn one way or another. I've tried rather hard to impart the lesson upon my own children."

He didn't seem to have noticed her momentary pause earlier.

The trip was somewhat long, but if nothing else, it meant that by the time they had arrived to their destination, they had certainly worked up an appetite.

As the man sent out his pokemon in order to set up camp in the grassy area, the rocky terrain having been left behind, a momentary conflict between his Kommo-O and a Sliggoo unlucky enough to wander into the dragon's line of sight was missed.

The only thing Gwyar found was the unconscious dragon at the Kommo-O's feet. A disapproving stare and a pokeball later, they were back to putting camp.

"Do you fancy anything in particular, Ms. Ivanova?"

Thea's expression changes to one of surprise when he mentions his own children. She seems to study him for a moment, genuinely intrigued to hear such news. The women she worked with and had known in her youth had looked up to him as a sort of.. icon of male fantasization - sort of. They had often giggled about one day marrying him.[break][break]

"You have children?"[break][break]

Regardless of his answer, they manage their long walk to their destination. She has certainly worked up an appetite, and she comes to a stop alongside the man while his Pokemon work at setting up a makeshift camp or picnic area. He asks her about preferences, and she reaches into her bag to retrieve hand-made sandwiches and sliced apples wrapped in beeswax paper.[break][break]

"I packed a few sandwiches just in case I'd be out late. You're welcome to help yourself."[break][break]

"... Why yes, yes I do." He said, slowly turning around, the gleam in his eye such that one might be forgiven if they immediately regretted asking the previous question.

The man held up his phone almost like a threat, smiling eagerly.

"... Want to see them~?"

Lord have mercy. He was one of those.

Lunch was momentarily forgotten as a clearly more important subject engaged with the blonde's pea brain. Just over his shoulder, Thea would see his Gallade slowly drag a an outstretched finger over his neck and make a face, before waving goodbye to her, reaching into the tent to pull out a cauldron.

While the man 'entertained' their guest, it seemed the pokemon would be dealing with the meal.

Barely away from the camp, a Sandshrew had the bad luck of catching Galahad's eye, the dragon tightening his fist tightly as he looked down upon it.

It squeaked out in horror, and was beaten into submission for it.
