With Blue guiding her voyage, Luna sitting on the bigger Pokemon's back, she looked over the map she had gotten from Mossdeep, crossing out different sections of the ocean. The Lapras' parents couldn't have migrated far, right? In her small drawstring bag on her back despite her swimsuit, Bear looked over her shoulder, watching Luna at work.

"We checked all around Mossdeep. Except this cave up north. Blue, can you keep going north?" Luna looked up from her map, the small Lapras craning her head and giving a hearty nod, and a cry of happiness exiting her mouth.

When they reached the cave, and Luna got off, she returned Blue to her Pokeball, and quickly popped her head out from the entrance, looking inside. "Hello?" The echo reverberated off the rock walls, echoing far inside of Shoal Cave. Luna quickly adjusted her bag with Bear getting cozy, and walked inside.

"Doesn't seem too scary." The wind chill from inside hit upon slightly exposed skin, and Luna began to shiver. "But it's really cold. Bear, can you-"

The Cyndaquil already crawled out of the bag, and onto Luna's shoulder, sliding down into her arms. The warmth of the fire mouse gave Luna some relief, as she quietly walked inside, sandals on her feet clacking against the icy cave. A quick squeak from the Cyndaquil, and Luna beamed down to him.

"Thank you, Bear!"

Then came the walk inside of the cave. The search beginning. "Hello? Lapras family? I found your child! Are you here?" she called out, looking every direction she could. Part of her knew it was unlikely she'd find them this easily.

Still. Luna made that promise. Still, would be nice if she had some company.

Mossdeep city, yet another fascinating place in his home region. Dakota had been meaning to visit the caves to do some research and today was finally the day he was able to do so. As he had just finished some paper work back in the lab, he now had time on his hands to do field research truly the best part of his field. Dakota prepared to spend a few days in the cave as Mossdeep held a lot of history and there was no way he'd be able to get any research done in the span of a single day.

Carrying a load of gear, he entered the cave. It was chilly, but nothing that Dakota couldn't handle. After all he just came back from Circhester these temperatures were nothing for him. As Dakota ventured further into the dim lighted cave a large aurorus trailed after him. The pokemon's weighed so much that each step it took shook the ground and caused tremors. Though it couldn't be helped it wasn't good for such a large pokemon to be confined in a pokeball for to long. Dakota often brought the aurorus on excursions since it was a good opportunity for him to get out more. Luckily the size of the cave permitted the pokemon to follow along rather easily.

A puff of air emerged from Dakota's mouth, proof of how cold the cave was. He huffed lighting a cigarette as he continued to move forward deeper into the Shoal caves. The aurorus lifted his massive neck, upon hearing something that lurked deeper within the cave. Dakota heard the echo as well, but figured it was from the pokemon that resided here. He wasn't able to clearly hear what Luna had said. Beckoning the pokemon to continue with a nod of his head. He wasn't worried about what was in the caves, he was here to do research on the pokemon after all.

Moving along rather quickly, Dakota spotted out something he hadn't been expecting - another person. He rubbed his eyes since he didn't want to believe what he saw was real but it was. There was another person, a girl - who seemed to be quite young. Dakota wondered why she would be in such a place. He wasn't to pleased to see that Luna came poorly dressed to be in such a place. It was quite cold and she didn't have any thick layers on. If she were to continue and linger in such a place surely she would come down with a bad cold. "Hey!" He shouted at her, getting her attention. Dakota walked closer taking off his large and heavy winter jacket as he did so. Once he got close enough. Dakota wrapped the girl up with his jacket, thankfully he wore warm clothes underneath them. "You'll only tire your pokemon out if you depend on him for warmth. My jacket would help out more anyways. " He simply stated, tossing out the cigarette from his mouth onto the floor. Smothering it with his shoes. "Why are you here?"

Every step it got colder. Really, Luna should have thought more carefully about her clothes before entering this cave, but to her credit, she didn't know if the cave would be freezing cold. Helpful as Bear was, if he did get exhausted, the two would be in trouble.

Looking on the brighter side of things, her swimsuit from Mossdeep was nice! That was something.

The shout from behind her had Luna shiver in twinge of terror, turning on her heel in the hopes it wasn't someone about to hurt her. Her emerald globes took in a taller man before a heavy winter jacket wrapped around her, protecting her and by proxy Bear from the fierce cove cave cold. Luna felt her face blush beet red from the act for a moment. However, calming down, she gave the older male a friendly smile. "Thanks, stranger!" Bear was becoming snug too, now popping up from under the jacket, below Luna's chin. Warm.

If Luna's mother was around, she'd be giving Luna an earful.

Scratching her cheek, a sheepish smile upon her lips, the question came as to why. Putting her hands down to her side, Luna stood steadfast as she spoke, her sunny smile breaking through. "Oh that's easy! I'm looking for a family of Lapras. I found a baby Lapras on Mossdeep's beach, and have been looking all day for her family. But I can't seem to find them." Grabbing her drawstring bag off her back, she shuffled through the insides.

Pulling out the map, she held it up towards Dakota, a map of Hoenn's ocean. Drawings and X's with circles displayed where she had been, and nearly all of Mossdeep was encircled in them. "I've been marking it off here and there, but I can't find them! This cave is near the ocean, and I thiiiiiiiiiiiink it has icy Pokemon, so I figured why not search here too?" she explained. Bear agreed in the most eloquently cute squeak he could make, happy to be warm thanks to him.

Then came the sigh of defeat, her smile fading, and her gaze downcast at the cave flooring. "What about you, stranger?" She eyed him up, but her attention was yoinked by an Aurorus behind him, and Luna's mouth fell agape. A starry-eyed expression came over her, excited noises coming from a large smile.

Dakota was slightly taken back by the young girls optimism and eagerness. He bit back from scolding her any further, after all he wasn't a father to the girl why would he. He coughed into his arm and glanced back at Luna when she explained that she was looking for a lapras pod. Her determination was slightly admirable but Dakota still thought of it to be pretty idiotic how she barged into a dangerous cave without a plan. "Considering the time of year, they probably migrated. " The pokemon were able to handle cold waters but preferred tropical climates.

Glancing once at the badly organized map, Dakota cleared his throat and coughed again. He didn't look very pleased, "It's unlikely that they would come here. " He didn't mean to crush the girls hopes, but Dakota truly didn't think they'd be here. Unless the ocean connected to the cave somehow, if that was the case since it was a secluded area it'd prove to be a good resting area.

"I'm here to do research" Dakota was about to go on a long explanation about what he did but when he noticed that Luna practically had stars shooting from her eyes he turned to look to see what she had been so excited about. Realizing it was because of his pokemon he slightly smiled. "Never seen a pokemon like this right? He's an aurorus a fossil type pokemon that lived long ago. You won't be finding them out int the wild anymore." He beckoned for the pokemon to come closer, figuring it'd be okay since they had a calm temperament.

The dinosaur like pokemon craned his massive neck down towards Luna, allowing the girl to touch him if she so pleased. A curious sniff sent a blast of cold air towards the girl.

Luna's heart sunk, and the sunny disposition found its clouds. They had migrated. Her emerald gaze shot to the floor, isolated. Not like Luna could blame Dakota for telling her something like that, tough it did deflate her energy.

When the Aurorus craned his neck down towards her, Luna still gave that enthusiasm, though slightly subdued. Hands outstretched to the fossil Pokemon's neck, placing her head gently onto the giant ice dinosaur, before she felt a sniff of cold air blow onto her face. That immediately began cheering Luna up, her smile returning. Luna began to scratch around his head, in an attempt to scratch a place where the Aurorus couldn't reach. In her mind, every Pokemon had a spot they couldn't reach, so why would this big guy be any different! Finding it was one of Luna's best traits!

Probably!

"Is there any way I can get one? He's so friendly!" she inquired, green eyes still on him, as she endlessly searched for that one spot. Following that, her scratching died down, and she remembered why she was here. The clouds formed again around her heart. Her smile gone.

Migration.

"Well then..." mumbled hums came from her lips, as she crossed her arms in thought. An idea! "I'll just have to come back later in the year! Keep Blue safe until then!" It was a punch to the gut, but Luna knew how to roll with them. Her confident toothy grin flashed back at Dakota, her eyes on fire. "You're doing research, right? Any way I can help out?" she asked, now bouncing on her heels. He helped her with staying warm, the Cyndaquil now sleeping cozily in the jacket. She had to give something back in return!

"That's not possible." Dakota replied to her inquiry in a blunt tone. Aurorus fossils were difficult to find. Even if one possessed the fossil it would take more then a few days to attempt and revive it. For Dakota it took around five years for a successful resurrection. Realizing the words may have been a little harsh, he cleared his throat. "They are not very common." His tone was less harsh. As the girl appeared to be slightly less bright when he first mentioned migration.

Nodding to her statement, it would be a long wait but if she was committed in reuniting the two, it'd be the best way at least that was his own opinion. Surprised that she offered help with his research Dakota glanced back at her with a smile. Most young people he ran into showed little interest in the science field, it was refreshing to see that Luna seemed to be interested. "I'll allow it" The response had a slight tint of eagerness. "Call me Dakota" He briefly introduced himself and continued to move deeper into the cave.

With how much Dakota had shot Luna down today, it's a wonder she was able to keep kicking, but she did so with gusto. "You got one! So it has to be possible for me too, right?" she was grinning widely, emerald globes on Dakota at the thought of her optimism being challenged. Luna Flowers was going to be champion, after all!

Probably!

The smile that returned had Luna's own brighten, and the blue-haired girl responded, following after Dakota, a hop in her step. "And I'm Luna!" she was sure to keep an arm's length distance from Dakota, in the case she almost tripped on ice or something. Sandals were not the best footwear for a place like this.

Huh. Maybe the champ route wasn't the only route for her. She did like exploring, after all. And she loved Pokemon, so...

"So what are we researching anyways, Professor Dakota?" she asked, believing Dakota to fit the bill of a professor. A small bubble appearing on Bear's nose below to indicate a snoozing Cyndaquil snoring with squeaks just beneath her chin.

Well she had a point. He wasn't trying to crush her dreams, if her determination doesn't fade, he was sure that one day she'd be able to get an aurorus as well. Nodding and giving a small smile at the introduction Dakota's eyes glanced towards her shoes - not very suitable for such a setting. He wondered if he should just tell her to go back, there really wasn't any point for her to come along after all. Just as he was about to mention it, the sudden question made Dakota feel flustered, not the question itself but when Luna had addressed him as a professor.

He turned his head away from the girl to conceal his reddening face, Dakota got flattered easily. Clearing his throat he replied. "I'm not a professor, just a researcher. I'm looking for signs of prehistoric life, that's mainly in my field. " Dakota was well versed in all areas of science, but fossils were where he shined.

"I'm guessing your goal is to become a trainer?" It was common for young children to want to become champion, so it was easy to guess.

O-ho? Was the Professor blushing? Had Luna not been raised by her parents, there would have been a teasing edge to his red face, but Luna kept smiling as she caught up to walk side by side with him. Knowingly, she kept her eyes averted, hands behind her back, as she walked.

When he cleared his throat and explained what he was and his purpose, Luna's emerald eyes glanced over. "Huh. Researching... professors do that too though, don't they?" Not that she was stroking the ego on purpose.

His question craned her head back forward, and the young trainer took a second to answer. Not that she didn't know, heck he was on the Pokedollar. "Every trainer my age wants that, right? I don't really know what's beyond that dream though. What else is there to be?"

She wondered on that for a moment, but took a few steps ahead of Dakota before turning on a heel. Walking backwards, beaming up to him with that toothy grin. She wasn't watching where she was going, but if Dakota needed to stop her, she was sure he would say something. "For today, I'm a professor's assistant!"

Okay, maybe that was a little flattery.

His head tilted at Luna's question, it was true in some sense but Dakota didn't see himself as a professor. "I guess that's true.." He commented, his face reddening even more. Taking a few inhales to calm down his jittery nerves he briefly glanced down at the stone floor of the cave. When Luna mentioned that she did in fact want to become trainer or attempt to be champion, it wasn't really surprising to hear, since Dakota himself wanted to become champion when he was Luna's age.

"Well.. you could always go down the scientific route! It is really awarding after all. " He told her with an enthusiastic nod. There weren't many people who considered becoming pokemon researchers, but it was a great career! Dakota loves his job and wouldn't trade it for any other. An audible hmm could be heard from Dakota when Luna ran ahead of him, seeing as how she wasn't really watching her step Dakota raised an eyebrow concerned that she'd fall over a rock of some kind. "T-that does sound pretty nice - but I'm not a professor! Just Dakota, okay? Dakota. " He responded his face once again cheeks bright red.

He noticed that Luna was about to trip over a rock, just like he thought she would. Dakota moved quickly to try and stop her fall "Luna! Watchout!" He extended his hand to try and help her.

Huh.

It was an idea. A champion was a dream, true. She always wanted to stand high on the shoulders of giants, bellowing to the world that even someone like her, with little experience in Pokemon and battling, can become the strongest. A dream from humble beginnings. But Dakota gave a good point. A scientific route might suit her better.

Sure, she wasn't the brightest tool in the crayon box, but she learned quickly. It was probably due to all the times her parents had her studying when she just wanted to enjoy being a kid or go out on her journey.

The way Dakota's cheeks became red was endearing, and Luna was giving a small giggle by response as she walked backwards still. Wouldn't you know it, the moment he called out for it, Luna tripped over the rock, and was about to fall over and slam her head on the cave floor.

Luna began to flail wildly as she fell before her wrist was grabbed, Dakota making the save.

Bear woke up rather startled, and quickly squeaked, looking every which direction, terrified something bad happened. The Cyndaquil looked up to Luna, whose own face was slightly red out of genuine embarrassment.

As she got back to some stability, she stood on her feet and smiled sheepishly, a playful hit on the head with a wink. "Sorry about that Pro-" she stopped herself, adjusting her posture. "-ahem, Dakota." she responded, and pushed a strand of hair behind her ear.

Though she still wanted to call him Professor. Dakota probably caught that too.

Luna returned to the previous topic as she walked beside of Dakota now, facing forward. Luna made sure not to make the same mistake twice. "Signs of prehistoric life though. So fossils, right?" she chimed, her smile no less bright despite her near fall.

He sighed out of relief seeing how she ended up not falling. Giving a headshake he scratched his hair, wondering if he was this careless when he was a child. "Be more careful. " He muttered out of annoyance but mainly just concerned for her wellbeing. Continuing their march of some sorts he didn't show much of a response when she almost called him professor again, in a way it reminded Dakota of how Arthur always called him by Kota, another name he wasn't very fond of. Giving a curt nod at her inquiry he began to go on a small ramble. "Yes.. prehistoric life. In fact I've been researching fossils in Galar the past few years, and there fossils were very interesting, very different compared to the ones I've seen in Hoenn, strange even.. but still fascinating, I am now continuing research here, just trying to revive fossils that anyone brings to the lab.. " His finger pressed to his chin as he pondered some things, failing to realize that Luna probably hadn't been listening to his long explanation.

The two of them eventually reached a nice wide space, a perfect spot to set up camp. Dakota smiled plopping down the large backpack he had been carrying which was heavy. He was glad to get that that weight off him and he quickly stretched out, pulling out a cigarette from a pocket and igniting it without much thought of a child being in presence. When he realized that he was with Luna he tucked it back in the package, not saying a word.

The aurorus sat down onto the cave floor causing the cave to slightly shake as she did so.

Luna understood why Dakota was frustrated with her near blunder. Usually, she was smarter than that, but apparently she came off today as a little more than a trashfire. Heading into a cold cave in just a swimsuit, nearly tripping and hurting herself of her own carelessness, and relying on Bear for warmth when he was still a Cyndaquil. Really, it was any wonder she survived so long making choices like this all day.

But Luna knew better. It wasn't going to bring her down. Quite the opposite. Instead, as he began to ramble, she listened with intent. Curiosity laced in every expression she made in response.

"So the fossils here are different than Galar's? How so? How many extinct species of Pokemon are there, anyways? Aside from the big guy." she asked, fascinated at the thought. So many Pokemon could be revived! There was so much to learn inside of this cave! Everywhere!

That science route was more appealing every minute!

They had some time to camp now. A wide open space, while Luna found herself seated on a small rock, allowing Bear a chance to break free, while Luna tossed out another Pokeball. And out came a lovely Pumpkaboo, Boo, to give the two of them some light. While still a little less than probably desired, the floating ghost merely hung about Luna with a snicker. "Go ahead, stretch out Boo." she smiled, and the Pumpkaboo responded in turn, red in the face, lighting up the cave just a bit with its orange glow from her eyes.

Luna watched the Aurorus for a moment, who had sat down, and craned back to Dakota. "You ever think about teaching at higher institutions? I kinda feel inspired." she asked with a sunny smile once more. If not a professor in the Pokemon sense, Dakota just seemed the type to be a cool teacher.

Dakota was really cool to her.

Dakota didn't think that Luna had been listening to her. It was pretty common for people to pretend to listen, or not care about science at all. One glance at her told him that she was paying attention, and that she was very keen on learning more. It was good to see and it made him feel happy, wishing that there were more young people like Luna. "Some pokemon adapted very unusually to try and survive in their environment, it might of worked in the short run.. but ultimately that's how most met their demise. They weren't able to adapt to anything else really. " Arctozolt was an example that came to mind, luckily Dakota had managed to revive one as he worked, but the pokemon was pretty dull. Brow furrowed in consideration, pondering Luna's question. "No way to know for certain, but a few thousand are known. "

The prospect of finding new species of fossil pokemon caused his heart to lightly flutter, it was one of the greater parts of the job but of course it was very difficult and not common. Dakota huffed setting up a small fire kit in the center of the space, it wouldn't provide much warmth but it'd help. He hadn't noticed that Luna summoned another pokemon until the room was luminated by a dim orange glow. He was pleased to see the pokemon but didn't say anything about it. "Can you have your cyndaquil spark the fire up?" Pointing at the fire kits direction. The question made Dakota pause, teaching would be lovely but he felt to inexperienced - and he didn't want to let down his students because of it. "Maybe in the future, but I do have an older brother who is a professor." He lightly smiled, wondering how Zenji had been doing. Figuring it would be a good chance to introduce Luna to his other pokemon, Dakota pulled out a pokeball giving it a gentle click. In doing so, a small white vulpix would appear craning her head in multiple directions before lookin towards Luna and Dakota.

"This is my alolan vulpix." He said briefly giving the pokemon a few head pats.

A few thousand? Luna felt herself so tiny! A thousand Pokemon, all asleep and waiting to be awoken. Sure, grim as it was, that's how biology was. It was natural. There was a term for it, but Luna couldn't recall. Those that couldn't adapt, met their end.

But Luna could only smile. "So we just have to find them, and wake them up then. Maybe they couldn't live back then, but now, we can help them." she was beaming towards Dakota, balancing on the rock she sat on as Boo lit up the whole area of the cave, but when prompted about lighting a small fire kit, Luna gave a nod. "Bear. Mind doing your Flame Wheel?" With a salute as he exited the jacket, Bear would waddle over, and with a quick roll, ignited the fire kit as his small flame shot from back.

Now there was some warmth. With it, came the introduction of the second of Dakota's Pokemon. A snow white Vulpix. Luna's green eyes shot wide, as she quickly sprung up, and moved over to the little fox.

With hands in front of her chest, and stars in her eyes, her response was as genuine fangirly as one could muster. "So cute! Look at how beautiful that fur is!" she gave a toothy grin at it, giddy to see such a precious thing. While Bear excited waddled over, Boo had a much different reaction. A small vein appearing on her head, and with her Pickup ability, well...

Luna felt a sudden pebble hit the side of her head. "OW!" she cried, grabbing the back of her head, the small Pumpkaboo incredibly jealous. Though she'd never let Luna know that.

Snapping back to Dakota, feeling a small bump on her head, the younger girl would sit cross-legged by the fire created by her Cyndaquil, and continue to smile unabated. Though she was still rubbing her head. "Mmmmm... older brother though, huh? That sounds a lot more fun than being an only child." she gave a sigh, Bear popping into her lap, and laying there quietly. Boo continued to act like a precocious jealous pumpkin ghost.

Luna's stomach began growling loudly, and she grabbed at it with a small blush. "Eheheh..." she nervously laughed. No a shred of food on her.

Mom would be over the moon.
