A garden on Mt Pyre? It seemed very strange and off putting that there was one, but again, Billi wasn’t one to judge. Maybe it just needed some more life to the depressing aura that filled the area of gloom. Billi stood there, planting the carrot seed, minding his own business. Looking out over the tombstones that laid the area in the distance. While sad, he sat and thought to himself.

Okay, there was something—something unsettling about Mount Pyre that Alexei swore to avoid at all costs.

But—there was still this feeling of guilt that he hadn’t visited the grave of his Pelipper, Mike, ever since the Pokémon had died during the days leading up to the Three Day war that had broken out.

The fact that Mount Pyre was infested with ghosts, though, had his hair constantly standing on edge whenever he would think about it. He already told himself he wasn’t going to visit the place as long as there were Ghost-types infesting the place, but…

That immense feeling of guilt eating him alive made him finally decide to pay the Pelipper’s grave a visit.

Ohh, if he encountered a single Ghost-type out here he would just make a break for it and run away screaming.

Him, Alexei, the Flying-themed Gym Leader, afraid of Ghost-type Pokémon?

Standing up he moved himself along the ghostly hollows, and stood beside him. “Why are you here,” billi asked quietly and respectfully. “I mean most of the time I come here to pay respect to my mum,” he laughed. “And the lost ones in the three day war.” he kept a respectful distance.

He had gotten so lost in thought it took several moments for the voice addressing him to reach his ears.

And what was his first reaction?

He was startled. Shook to the very core.

He’d almost jumped a mile into the air (no, not really but you get the point) before realizing who it was.

“Oh, Arceus, Billi, it—it’s only you,” he breathed out as he caught his breath. Looking around at the foggy area, he swallowed slightly.

“I’m here visiting my… my Pelipper’s grave,” he continued with a sigh. “Lost one of my fliers during the outbreak. I—I haven’t been able to visit ever since. Only found time now… and for that I feel really guilty,” he continued quietly.

“What—what about you? Wh-what brings you here?”

Woop, scared the sheet out of Alexei, which is sad and funny. Maybe he had a thing against this type of energy. Then again, it wasn’t for the faint of heart. Some people dealt with loss differently, and Billi wallowed in sadness even if he hid it very well. “Oh? I didn’t know you lost one, I’m sorry,” billi commented feeling for him….but maybe that was patronizing? Who knew.[break][break]

“Oh I come here to pay respects…… to those lost in the war last year, among other people. It’s the biggest graveyard, and the closest I’ll get to one back home.” he mentioned. “Kinda helps being far away from the graves at home.”

“Did you see the memorial built over at Lilycove?” he inquired of the other. “I went there for a bit and left some flowers there.”

Fuck, he should’ve maybe buried that little squishy here, but no—it was better off near the ocean, where the Lilycove memorial was.

“So many names on it—there are a few familiar ones I recognized, and… and well, it made me think…” he stammered, his gaze looking around nervously.

“It—it made me think about death… how it’s a-a-always there…” he stammered. Oh, shit, he was cracking open again wasn’t he?

Death—it was something he didn’t want to think about, but at the same time it terrified him…

Yeah...it was hard to think about death. It was always so raw, and painful. But did he himself fear his own death? No. Never. Would he regret if he died doing what he believed was right...no! Now other people, he sure would. Maybe it was the curse of being a martyr but everyone has their quirks. “yeah I guess.” he smiled weakly.[break][break]

Was today going to be a revelation for the ages?

Taking a deep breath, Alexei sighed. He wondered if it was time to… start sharing more.

Well, there was nobody else he could—turn to, like him.

“I… I’m afraid to admit this, son, but…” he began, all the hesitancy in his voice creeping out as he tried to find the words to express what he wanted to say.

“Death… it. It scares me,” he continued, his voice getting more and more wound up.

“I—I don’t know how I was able to get through the—through the War, but… there are nights that I can’t sleep because I remember the battlefield…”

Billi gave a sad smile and gave Alexei a pat on the shoulder, taking a deep breath in. “I did too…..It’s different then normal death….but I got over those” he frowned. “but...I don’t have my mum, or my sister.” he frowned, “I have…..nothing…” he frowned, “but that’s okay, I learned...to take care of myself...with antidepressants...that helped! But I try to smile now!” he laughed lightly trying to destroy this gloomy air.

He sighed minutely.

Pinching the bridge of his nose in an attempt to gather his thoughts, Alexei wondered how best he was going to address the situation.

“It’s more complicated than that, see,” he said after letting the silence permeate between them. “I didn’t—I didn’t realize that I had actually indirectly witnessed two people get… manhandled… by those gigantic tentacles… I remembered that the saltwater tasted… rusty. And it didn’t hit me until much later that they were… crushed. To death.”

War-related death was different from normal death, because those who died in the middle of a battle had no time or sense to comprehend what had happened to them.

Which made it all the more frightening, to be honest.

“I—I know this may sound s-silly, but…” he continued to stammer as he looked around nervously.

“You… do you know anything about the stories s-s-surrounding the Litwick line?”

This wasn’t gonna be one I had it worse then you moments, but…..Billi couldn’t help but think that he was ground zero compared to the air. You know after Alexei saved him, he had those people pop like bottle caps and just ruin his day. The literal blood bath but still. Though, through all these thoughts he remained silent.[break][break]

Oh boy.

Well, it was expected after all. Litwick was a Pokémon native to his home region of Unova. He didn’t know just how far the little candle had managed to spread outside the region. Hell, he’d seen precious few of them out in this region.

“Well, see… there was this child’s tale—but I didn’t know the thing was fucking true. You remember what—what the Pokédex entry for Litwick says, right?” he prefaced. This was going to be a long-ass explanation.

“If a kid gets lost in a forest and follows that light, the—the Litwick can and will suck the life out of the child. And—and a new Litwick is apparently, uhm, born.”

Did it sound like he was speaking from experience?

“…I can attest that the story is not a story, it’s f-f-fucking real… I didn’t know that it was a fucking Ghost-type, I thought—I thought it was a Fire-type! It looked so… well, it didn’t know what it was doing! I didn’t—I didn’t realize that it was trying to kill me the farther away it lured me into the f-f-forest…”

It wasn’t an easy conversation to have, no, and he commended Alexei for sharing it with him. In a way...trauma made people stronger, but the damage is still done and the scars still linger. Just like the ones he hid from Alexei. Somehow Alexei never managed to click into the fact his left arm was damaged from the toxins of the hentai beast that Alexei saved him from. The toxins took a deep hold on his nerves, resulting in unrepairable damage only eased by therapy and determination.[break][break]

“Ghost pokemon are strange like that……” Billi gave an awkward smile. “People forget...they are wild too just trying to survive. That’s why I avoid using Revali and the brood in gym battles together. There’s just so much in there as apex predators as spiders. Always gotta be on edge ya know,” he commented pulling attention to the fact pokemon are indeed dangerous when wild.[break][break]

The large hands rolled up the sleeve, showing the familiar scars that Alexei had seen many times along his arm. The tentacle, tree shaped, scars that ran up the length of his arms like bulging veins. “It’s….a sense of hopelessness that’s scary. When you loose something.” he paused, “Do you know why I need Tailor and Sewer to help me make clothes?” he asked curiously.[break][break]

Allowing the tension to clear up between them, “I can barely hold more than a pokeball in it without it hurting and giving out. Can’t play guitar anymore, I have to use Razzberry to help me sign, or write documents now and I’ve broken most of my plates and bowls.” a frowned cracked on his face, the damage clear in his eyes, “the ultra beast you saved me from….crushed my arm which they saved but the toxins that they had got into my nerves. Then….the people we didn’t save…...just..POP and I coated in blood.” [break][break]

he looked at his hands, “and snow...and tears...and sweat, just so much.”Billi then looked at the sky, “ and I feel…….like I have to be the light at the end of the tunnel, because If I crack….everyone falls down with me…..” he kicked the dirt below him. “And then you feel lost and confused….and the people you need the most...are just not there…..no mom is there to give you a hug to tell you it’s okay…..no aunt, no grandparents. No. nothing.” he frowned looking down gulping as he felt the tightness in his throat.

“What—what are you—” Alexei began once Billi had finished talking.

“Why didn’t you—how long has it been like this?” he asked in a hushed voice. “You didn’t—does anyone else—why didn’t you tell—” he continued, his voice coming out in fits and starts.

The sight was—terrible.

“That—those things?” he finally managed to stammer, shuddering at the memory. “I didn’t see you getting tangled up in those… those disgusting things.”

Fuck, the sight made him shiver.

And speaking of blood…

“Son—son. Come… come here,” he gestured, holding out an arm a few moments later. “You’re… you’re shaking. You—you need… just, come here.”

A hug.

That’s what Billi needed.
