The theme, she'd been told by the safari zone worker who'd granted her entry, was fairytales. Of all things. Skyler had never fancied herself a princess, though angelo vestri had often used the term to tease her - mercilessly and to the detriment of his own safety and well-being.

And truth be told, she didn't feel much like a princess as she stepped over the dramatic drawbridge. Her steps were wide and determined, striding into a wide courtyard like she was issuing a challenge, sparing barely a glance to other trainers around the area before marching forth, undaunted.

Less of a princess and more of a greedy dragon seeking treasure.

A small Minior followed closely behind, its lumpy shell hiding the swirl of indigo energy within. "We gotta find you some friends, don't we Murzim?"

It didn't take long for Skyler to realize the second shadow that followed in her wake, floating curiously at the periphery of her vision and creeping ever so closer. Instead of confronting it directly, the ship captain let it approach by careful inches, light spilling from holes in its shell to paint colorful patterns across the courtyard floor.

Murzim floated closer to the other Minior, some sort of silent communication passing between the two. When Skler finally turned to face the wild Minior, there was a pokeball resting on the palm of her hand, accompanied by a quirked eyebrow.

"Well, you comin'?"

Skyler wondered faintly exactly how much work had gone into transforming this area into a fairytale setting. The polished stone felt solid and unmovable under her booted feet as she approached what seemed to be a fountain of sorts. The familiar sound of gurgling water reached her ears before she'd even set eyes on the object itself. Although it lacked the distinctly salty tang the captain was used to, it nevertheless made her lips curl into a lopsided smile.

A small group of Shellos was playing in the shallow waters, standing under the flow of the waterfall and chatting at each other. Skyler's fingers brushed over the surface of the water, its coolness tempting her.

The Shellos seemed content to ignore her sudden presence - save for a little one which had come to curiously peer up at her. Doe-like eyes settled on her hand as it approached and -

- bit her finger.

It didn't hurt, not exactly. "I'm not food, y'know. Or a chew toy." With a little pat pat to the head, Skyler left the Shellos family behind and made her way to the castle.

Despite the fact that Skyler was surrounded by a fairytale inspired setting, she didn't feel very, well, fairytale-ish. The courtyard was beautiful with artfully arranged bushes and fountains and grandiose steps leading up to an equally grandiose castle. For some reason it reminded her of kyle lopez... Probably all the ren-faire vibes.

Yet she felt as if she didn't quite fit, as if... there was something missing. Granted, Skyler wasn't exactly dressed for the occasion.

So when she passed by a suit of armor, she stopped and studied it. The idea that was creeping into her brain could've better been described as utterly foolish, yet it brought a satisfied, if mischievous smile to Skyler's lips.

A couple of minutes and a wonderfully colorful string of curses later, Captain Dross was the proud owner (kind of, it was borrowed) of a makeshift sword. It made a whooshing sound as Skyler maneuvered it, two-handed, valiantly striking at the air as if engaged in mortal combat with a deadly enemy.

"Away, foul creature!"

A small Ponyta blinked at the sight, utterly unimpressed with what it saw, and trotted away.

Sword in hand and looking mighty pleased with herself, Captain Dross stalked up the stairs on the lookout for more accessories. This self-appointed quest hadn't been part of her initial focus as she'd entered the safari zone, but that hardly mattered to her, not when her eyes eagerly searched every corner and crevice for something resembling a cape. Or maybe some pauldrons.

Suits of armor lined the entrance to the castle, looking regal but altogether too basic for what Skyler had envisioned. Doors swinging open at her passage, the captain found herself haunting the grand hall, steps echoing in the hastily constructed chamber.

There wasn't much to see here, really. Skyler suspected most of the decorating had been kept to the outside where most pokemon roamed. Still, she couldn't keep the bright grin from her lips when she spotted a particularly regal-looking suit of armor.

And it had a cape.

She nearly missed the confused Happiny that peeked at her from inside the armor, her dreams of becoming a knight swiftly crushed as her noble banner was stolen from her.

Fortunately, a pokeball remedied that situation.

Flanked by two minior as opposed to the single one which she'd started this venture with, Skyler made her way out of the castle and into the sunlight, clad in a brand new cape. Despite the dust that gathered over her shoulders and left a small trail behind her, the material flared out dramatically in the wind in a decidedly satisfying manner.

A few odd looks were sent her way (by other people and a small Hatenna), which Skyler expertly ignored in favor of stalking the palace grounds, sword cutting through the air in front of her as she tested its weight. The captain was more of a brawler, but she could be convinced to try a bit of fencing, as long as it wasn't that fancy, touch and step back one...

There was no thrill in that.

Fading sunlight caught on her golden curls as she found herself facing what appeared to be a royal garden, complete with green shrubs twisted into a maze-like construction.

Huh.

Skyler didn't even question it. Lenghtening shadows swallowed her as she disappeared into the verdant corridors.

Shoalgun, Skyler couldn't help but think, would be proud. The Dewott had always carried herself with a poise fit for a knight, noble and fair to a fault. Skyler, however, had always been on the more chaotic side of things. Still, the captain had to admit that the sword and the cape did look good on her. Maybe she'd wear something like this next time she passed by the local ren-faire.

She'd always fancied taking up sword fighting.

When she leaned down to study what appeared to be a glinting coin - it wasn't, it was just a plastic wrapper - she completely missed the bird flying (dancing?) overhead.
