As they always said, there was no place like home, right?

Well, in this instance this place was definitely a home for Lars. Even if he could only plumb into the lowest depths during low tide, it was something he had to give and take with wild nature all around him.

Due to coming here so often, he’d already memorized the approximate times the water would drain out of the cave and give access to the lowest levels—and even then, it was always in several hour intervals.

He had arrived at one of those intervals again, hoping to find something to add to his collection. It was growing—but very slowly.

Slowly, but surely.

Looks like today was another lesson in irony, because—

A loud, bellowing, familiar roar reached his ears!

“Oh, not you again!” he hissed as he saw a familiar-looking Abomasnow suddenly charge in his direction from one of the tunnels he’d wandered down absentmindedly.

A sudden barrage of Ice Shards then found themselves lodged into the wall near where he stood, and right then and there he knew it was time to get the hell out of there and put as much distance between himself and the Abomasnow.

Why did he keep running into them, anyway? Were they attracted to him for some weird-ass reason?!

The next Pokémon he spotted after finally managing to throw off the Abomasnow—he let out a snort.

“Oh, Madoc,” he said with this grin on his face. He hoped that unlike the Abomasnow, this Beartic wasn’t going to be a territorial jackass that would chase him down.

Lars didn’t know why he had such a problem with Abomasnow—all the ones he’d encountered so far in his life were either bloodthirsty, cannibalistic Pokémon that loved eating its kidnapped victims, or more often than not saw red a lot and attacked anything that moved.

Deciding to leave the Beartic alone, he continued on his trek deeper into Shoal Cave.

The last thing he encountered—made his eyebrows go up slightly.

Really, were they back to this again?

Pinching the bridge of his nose, he sighed.

He already had a Weavile of his own, so what the hell was up with that. He wondered if he could get lucky with the next trip here soon.

“Go on, go back to your family. Go, shoo!” he said in the Sneasel’s direction, leaving it alone to wander back into the darkness as he made his way back out.

He could hear the water lapping up slowly but surely—it was time to retreat, for the moment.
