Having just finished blindfolding his pokemon of choice, Guirus the Flygon, Doug caught the goggles thrown his way as the sandstorm buffeted at his cheeks, almost immediately fitting the things to his face in response.
"Jeez, rough weather, eh? 'ey, do I get to keep these? They look sweet." He asked the man with some cheek whilst swinging a leg atop his Flygon, patting at the dragon's neck while grinning at him, wiggling his bum atop the saddle he had gotten for him.
Much better than riding without!
"Awright Guirus, don't let no 'Novan bird shows what for! Directly in front of you- After that man!" Doug said cheerfully, Guirus responding with a competitive huff before launching himself up and into the air with a powerful flap of his wings.
A buzzing, siren-like sound filled the air as the blind folded Flygon soared through the sandstorm.
It was something of an awkward arrangement; Doug was not angelo vestri; he did not possess a wealth of pokemon capable of carrying him around, nor any expertise at riding them, unlike his older brother. He usually just walked wherever he needed to go, only flying anywhere when he was in a rush.
He and Guirus had no practice at this kind of thing- but they were used to one another, if nothing else. They eventually managed to get a feel for one another, Guirus slowly gaining better reaction time as he let go of his own instincts and let his trainer guide the way.
When Doug desired him swoop down, he squeeze his sides with his legs. When he wanted him to pull up, he would yank back the reigns. Sideways movement? He would pull the reigns left and right, wherever he wished to go.
It was simple movement, like some sort of video game-not that Doug was well-acquainted with such expensive toys- but it served the job well, allowing the nimble flying type to traverse the terrain while his trainer focused on keeping him safe- and catching up to the Gym Leader.
"Still right ahead, Guirus! Let's put some back into it!"
