Katsumi had been staying with her for the better half of a year or so now, but it still brought Avery exuberant amounts of joy to rise from her bed, rub the sleep from her eyes, and remember that her best friend was living under the same roof as her. And she had been so kind and so helpful and so easy to get along with that sometimes it felt like the woman had been here the entire time. That she'd always had a best friend roommate slash basically a sister.[break][break]

And the woman had been such an incredible help around the daycare that on some occasions, Avery actually had a chance to sleep in. Today was one of those days, the only problem being the ladies had made plans to head out into the heart of the city to do some quality girls time. [break][break]

Her phone vibrates beneath her hand and she drowsily wakes to realize that she had swiped the 'dismiss' option of her alarm instead of the 'snooze'. She was still holding onto it as if she'd fallen asleep immediately after reaching for it.[break][break]

"Oh no!"[break][break]

She stumbles out of her bed, stubbing her toe with a gasp, rushing to the bathroom and hastily shutting the door too loudly. It rouses one of her various baby Pokemon from the windowsill with a squeak. For a few minutes, Avery scrambles to brush her hair out and wash her face and otherwise get prepared for the day before darting down the stairs to meet up with Katsumi.[break][break]

"Katsumi, good morning! I slept in, I'm so sorry. You spoil me now with all your hard work and volunteering!"[break][break]

[attr="class","sumi2"]Katsumi hummed as she made her rounds through the daycare cleaning and straightening up things so Avery wouldn't have to worry about it later. A bunch of the baby pokémon she was looking after danced between her feet as she moved, but Katsumi was careful with her steps. She's always been good at balancing things so this was no issue.

She'd woken up early and prepared breakfast for Avery and set it aside. She was used to waking up early so it was a habit for her to get an early start on chores and taking care of the little ones. Besides it allowed her to get some extra time to study as well while she chilled with the babies. Admittedly sometimes they were a little too hyper to study but for the most part she didn't have too much trouble.

"Watch it, watch it. I don't want to step on you." She warned in a smooth voice as she shook her head, a chuckle escaping her glossed lips. She was looking forward to today. She and Avery were gonna go on a date! Platonically speaking of course. She'd planned her outfit the night before and made sure to do much of her care that night prior so she could be free to have an easy morning.

"Katsumi, good morning! I slept in, I'm so sorry. You spoil me now with all your hard work and volunteering!" she heard Avery before she even saw her as she had bounded down the stairs. Placing the broom back in it's proper place she offered a smile to Avery in greet. "Good morning sleepy head." she said with a light hearted chuckle before shaking her head. "No need to apologize. It just meant you need the extra few minutes of sleep." Besides, it was no trouble at all, they had the rest of the day to do what they had planned.

At the mention of her spoiling Avery a gentle crimson blush spread across her cheeks. "Aw, it's no big deal. I just want to repay you for all the kindness you've shown me." she admitted sheepishly as she rubbed the back of her neck. "I-I made you breakfast if you want to eat it before we go." she stammered quickly before turning and clearing her throat. "I'll check on the babies." she said feeling a little embarrassed but wanting to give Avery time to have a proper meal before they departed.

Avery blushes immediately following the affectionate nod to her arrival. She pats down her hair for fear there might be remaining bedhead, sheepish and giggling lightly under her breath to hide her embarrassment. It isn't working, but she looks cute doing it.[break][break]

"I suppose so.. I just hate to see you working so hard when I've hardly lifted a finger. You're my guest, not my employee!"[break][break]

She braves a smile, however, brushing her pink hair over one shoulder. Together, the two were a bashful, blushing pair. Katsumi assures her and Avery waves her hands in front of her in a silent plea to cease the apologizing and reassuring. [break][break]

"Breakfast! You shouldn't have! Katsumi..."[break][break]

Breathless now, Avery steps forward to stop the woman before she could go. Fingers twine around the other woman's and tug her backward, and she makes the attempt to wrap Katsumi up in a hug. [break][break]

"I'll come with you! Besides.. this is supposed to be your day."[break][break]

Oops, had she just ruined the surprise? Gods, she was so bad at keeping secrets.[break][break]

[attr="class","sumi2"]Katsumi didn't get to go far before she was gently tugged backwards before being brought into an embrace. So much for hiding her embarrassment. Katsumi's blush grew deeper as she stayed in Avery's arms. "I'll come with you! Besides.. this is supposed to be your day." Her best friend exclaimed.

"But your breakfast..." Katsumi protested before tilting her head to the side. "What are you planning?" she asked her friend. Now whether Avery would actually tell her was up in the air but Katsumi was curious now. Pulling away from Avery she flashed her a bright smile. "C'mon. I'll hold off on checking on the little ones. You need to eat first." She said as she pointed at the plate she set aside for Avery.

She walked over and sat in a seat across from Avery and leaned against the table resting her chin on her hands. A little Happiny waddled her way to Katsumi before she scooped it up in her arms. A smug grin replaced Katsumi's gentle smile as she focused on Avery. "So yeah, what was that about this being my day, hmm?" she teased her friend as she tickled the Happiny on her side.

Panic, albeit warm and excited in nature as opposed to dreadful, swells in her breast as she tightens her hug. Sumi has to practically pry the woman off of her as a result of Avery's reluctance to let go. With a nervous chuckle, Avery glances away so as to not look her friend in the eye.[break][break]

"Never you mind!"[break][break]

Oh, that wasn't helping.[break][break]

But the young woman follows Katsumi back into the kitchen and to the plate set up for her. It is still steaming with warmth and Avery finds it quite easy and relieving to sit down in front of it. With a deep inhale and a sigh, the woman lifts her attention back to the brunette sitting across from her, and right into the path of her teasing.[break][break]

"I-I mean, it's always your day! Seize the day, carpe diem and all that!"[break][break]

Although she attempts to be calm, she proclaims quite panicked-like before taking a bite of her food.[break][break]

"Mmm! Delicious! You are an excellent cook, Sumi!"[break][break]

It isn't too far, and it's a lovely day.." Avie said and Katsumi nodded. "Sure, sounds like fun." she honestly didn't mind where they headed, getting the chance to spend the day with her best friend was good enough for her honestly.

Katsumi stretched before getting up from the table. "I'll put the little one down and then I'll be ready to go." She said with a wink towards Avery. Katsumi headed towards the rest of the babies and set the Togepi down with the others. "We'll be back later okay? Be good."

With that gushing wave of affection and embarrassment passing with every mouthful of food she ate, Avery seems to relax a bit. The heat in her cheeks reduces to a simmer of pink, and she smiles past her fork toward the young woman across from her. She still retains her sheepish, shy little smile, but she seems all the better for it.[break][break]

"Oh no, I couldn't possibly! I love to cook, I really don't mind."[break][break]

Katsumi's attention is drawn away abruptly, and Avery follows the line of her gaze quickly. Her own bright green eyes soften at the sight of her two Pokemon and their disagreement. 'Early-morning crankies' she often called it. Sumi's gentle reminder to be nice is heard loud and clear, and the two little munchkins step away from each other with meek expressions of guilt.[break][break]

"You're really good with them!"[break][break]

The woman's eyes widen with surprise at Katsumi's excited, hurried tone. She digs in further, taking care not to inhale it, but to indeed 'hurry'. Once the plate was cleaned she rises, scooping it with her hand and heading for the sink.[break][break]

"Me too! First, though, if you don't mind, I have to pick up some seeds from basil belmont's shop in Mossdeep. He's a close friend of mine, and he always has the best selection! It isn't too far, and it's a lovely day.."[break][break]

She begins to babble, suddenly worried that the trip might be too far out of the way and her friend might not be inclined to come with her.[break][break]

It was all a ruse, of course, a distraction to keep Katsumi's mind off of the big surprise birthday party she was holding in the backyard.[break][break]
More than likely, the young woman had already seem some evidence of it if she had been perusing the yard to tend to the Pokemon. Hopefully, however, she was none-the-wiser.[break][break]
And Avery wasn't entirely lying about the shop in Mossdeep. More that.. she'd already arranged for the seeds to be picked up- and those seeds were already grown into flowers, Sumi's favourites, specifically.[break][break]
Where they were heading, instead, was downtown to pick out a gift. On the way home, maybe some ice cream, and then.. viola! Birthday party![break][break]

After doing a few more final checks on the babies, when she was satisfied, she decided it was time to join Avery. Besides, if she had errands to run she didn't want to be responsible for holding her up longer than she needed to.

Katsumi quickly grabbed her purse and then joined Avery back where she left her. "Okay! They all seem good, so I'm ready to go whenever you are." she said as she offered her best friend a bright smile. Katsumi moved closer taking hold of Avery's hand in her own. She had been looking forward to the day for a while so she was extremely excited to have an excuse to spend some fun time with Avery.

Katsumi had no clue what was being done. While she had made her rounds in the backyard she just figured Avery was planning something for the babies. She never would've guessed it was something for her. Which is why the surprise would be so much sweeter since she totally wouldn't have seen it coming.
