he approaches, makes no introduction before he asks:

"are you lost?"

Strontium, calcium, sodium, barium - The list goes on, elements hastily scribbled into an empty notebook as she takes yet another bite of her apple slices. Each element is accompanied by a patch of colour, a soft lullaby hummed under her breath as she tries her best to remember what she's been taught. Her legs dangle way off the ground, idly kicking air whilst her hands begin on their next masterpiece.

This time, she sketches the cross section of an apple, labelling each and every part of the fruit before drawing her attention to the labels for the seeds - 'Filled with amygdalin, which becomes hydrogen cyanide! But not as much as cherries. People need to eat a big number of them to feel sick or even die! Thousands and thousands of them!' By its side, she's working on the side effects, carefully listing down the stages of cyanide poisoning with little stickman doodles by the side.

It's a rather strange - and possibly grim - habit for a child, but writing down things like these help her to stay calm and pass the time, especially when Reiner's not around. But she doesn't remain alone for long, the Luxray soon slinking into the dining hall with a large book in his maws, gently placing it by her side and nudging her as if to inform her of his return. Like always, Eris greets him with a smile, her arms spread wide as she pulls him into a hug.

"I hope you didn't tell Gavin about what we did." 'What we did' referring to the fact that she may or may not have broken into the laboratories earlier to snatch a few samples of stable metallic salts… What Gavin doesn't know wouldn't hurt him, right? At the very least, she hopes it won't.

But perhaps, she's getting a little too caught up in her master schemes, startled by the sudden presence of another soul. However, she's quick to adapt, a soft smile dancing across her lips as she answers.

"Not lost! Just trying to write down a recipe! Not for cooking though!"

mischief runs rampant, that much he can tell by how quick and easy her smile dances, almost trained. his eyes flick over to the luxray, to the large book, then to the notebook. he points to the latter.

Always look twice before you speak. Perhaps, she should start taking this piece of advice to heart, especially when she's seated in the middle of a busy dining hall. Though he probes further on the secrets she holds, Eris knows better than to tell the truth to strangers she's just met.

"About plans... top secret ones! Uhm... con... con-fee-den-shal... things!" Her excitement is one well-contained despite the danger that lurks behind those words, her gaze following his own as he gives her set-up a once over. Then, he makes a rather odd moves, pointing to her notebook and asking if he could view the words within. Though most kids would have readily shown off their creations, Eris defends the book with her life, drawing it closer to her as she tilts her head.

"What do you wanna look at it for, mister? There's not a lot of interesting things here, you know?"

And yet, she offers a compromise, scooting over to allow him a place to sit and view the notebook, her hand always subconsciously holding one edge even as he flips through the content. Within it sits a treasure trove of knowledge - From poisonous plants and chemicals to natural predators and trails of legendaries, it is clear that not all of it is written by her hands. And yet, every page has markings of her works, practical uses of each noted object mostly in the context of combat.

Scribbled out are recipes that have been tried and tested before, tiny map sketches marred with crosses as if trying to pinpoint a location. Finally, at the end of the book lies a paragraph of text -

There is a pain that echoes through her chest just like the question he asks, an emotion that briefly reflects in her actions as she focuses on the contents of the book.

"Not all but most of it, yes." She's honest where it counts, her fingers tracing the cursive letters almost fondly. "I've filled in a lot of the gaps by myself." Though her mind lingers on the fact that he's evaded her questions, Eris is easily distracted by the ones he poses.

"Aconitum, cicuta, illicium anisatum, among other species." Fluent are the words that slip off her tongue, well committed to memory as she points at the corresponding red crosses. "Limestone, sulfur, pyrite..." There exists many other blue crosses, but she supposes it's better not to expose her search for 'useful' minerals. And finally -

"Old trails and rumoured sightings of legendary pokemon." Her finger lightly grazes the simplified illustrations of the various pokemons over each purple cross, her voice trailing off as she tries to remember the names that she's been taught. "These ones aren't mine. Momma used to add on more whenever she came back from her busy months."

Though Eris' grip tightens and her excitement seems to die down, her voice doesn't falter in the slightest. She's used to explaining this, used to repeating these words to every adult she meets when there's no real reason to lie. Her hands are drawn closer to her body, her fingers gingerly running over her jacket sleeves as the underlying scars burn cold. With the silence comes a rustle of fur, her Luxray nuzzling her shoulders as she reaches out to pat his head.

You can listen to the devil's offer, but never accept it whilst his claws sit before your eyes. There is a piece of advice that sits silent in the back of her mind, repressed by a false sense of security woven through the years. And it takes all but three words to dredge it back to the surface. Doubt of his ability to tattle sits tight upon her lips but she makes no mention of it, a low growl from Reiner hushed by a steady hand.

and though it goes unsaid, all three of his conditions, should she follow them obediently, keeps her safe and alive.

Darkness lurks beneath the surface of those you've yet to unravel. The conditions he poses are strange, if not downright dangerous when she considers what exactly 'orders' may entail.

The second condition suggests that she may be kept on a leash, an idea that she isn't too keen to entertain as she draws her notebook closer to herself. "The head scientists here can produce a lot more results with their equipment and funding."

Eris notes that she's already breaking the first condition of not asking any questions but then again, she hasn't quite agreed to it. If she is to describe the situation, it's far too vague for her liking. She registers that there is an edge to his words, one that she can't quite discern save for the gut feeling that she needs to tread lightly in his presence.
