Was there anything else in the goddamn ocean? These fish were trying her patience. Looking out to the sea, she quietly considered how she had never seen so much water before coming here. Ocean as far as the eye could see. She dragged her feet through the sand, her eyes boring into the crashing waves cascading into the beach. Her chest collapsed with a resounding sigh of resignation. Fuck it, she thought having given up on capturing a water-type pokemon entirely.[break][break]

Isla had lost track of time and before she knew it, the sun was setting on the horizon. Twinkling stars began to peek through gathering clouds, offering a small amount of light to brighten her path. She walked back towards her arcanine who was sitting just shy of the beach in an effort to not get wet. "I'm going to let zorua take it from here," she said before sending arcanine back to the confines of his pokeball. Like Bane, zorua thrived in the dark. "Come, let's see what the forest has in store for us, huh?" Isla's zorua was released from its pokeball and immediately sent to hunt whatever came out at night around here. Hopefully the night was dark and full of terrors.[break][break]

Zorua ran ahead, quickly ducking and weaving its way through the dense overgrowth and vanishing out of Isla's line of sight. She pushed onward without her pokemon, hacking and clearing the path that led back to Lilycove City with her honedge. "Zorua?" She could have sworn he had ran off in this direction. All of the trees had started to look the same and, for a moment, she distressed over whether she'd been walking in circles this whole time or not. "Zorua!" she called out into the creeping darkness with more agency this time.[break][break]

A shadow flitted between two trees before her, barely visible to the naked eye. Was her mind playing tricks on her or had a shadowy figure actually crossed her path? She stood still and held her breath while hurriedly looking around her like a trapped animal. "Who's there?" she challenged the encroaching shade, half-afraid and half-curious. All of a sudden, it appeared—a phantom with a goofy grin and a lolling tongue: Haunter. She instinctively backed up, taken aback by the jump scare. Ha! "Zorua! Scary Face!" she shouted winking at Haunter.[break][break]

Nothing.[break][break]

The haunter looked confused and then it started laughing like a hyena. Was a wink the best she cou—before it could finish underestimating her, a face with eyes like daggers apparated between it and her. Zorua came charging out of the brush in her peripheral and barked at the pranking haunter. Haunter looked wide-eyed at the scary face that had now burst out into hideous laughter and then to Zorua before succumbing to its hysterics. Haunter wasn't going anywhere fast...not while it was rolling over laughing its ass off. The two pokemon went back and forth mocking each-other with their giant, menacing spectral faces.[break][break]

Isla ceased the moment and dug into her backpack for a spare pokeball. She rolled it in her hand for a moment before lobbing it at Haunter. With a flash, the ghost pokemon was captured. The pokeball wobbled on the forest ground, back and forth. The real question was, would it stay captured? Zorua crouched, its hackles raised in case the haunter got past her pokeball and she asked him to beat it into submission. It'd be a real shame if it came to that, though she couldn't pass up on a pokemon after her own heart.
