No one had told her about how quietly people drowned. How the air is immediately replaced by water the moment you try to scream. How cold your body gets as you find yourself tossed and thrown amidst the churning stream. How easily your grip slips even when you swear you grabbed onto the side of the riverbank.[break][break]

It's that moment that's snatched from her time and time again, that panic that builds in her chest when she realises she can't get out. When she tries so hard to swim back to the surface but finds herself disorientated as her limbs refuse to move.[break][break]

She can't breathe. She can't breathe... She's running out of air. Everything's going dark-[break][break]

A sharp press on her chest forces her to cough up the water in her lungs, her body instinctively curling to the sides as she spits and splutters for air. They can't even rub her back to help makes things feel better, the scent of her own blood overwhelms her senses, even the burning in her nose.[break][break]

Is someone coming to help? Is she just going to have to patch herself up?[break][break]

A pure golden gaze trickles over her, dousing her heart with tinges of confusion and curiosity.[break][break]

Slender hands pull away from the gripping of twin tails, the pixie quietly floating towards her and pulling a Butterfree from behind her ear. Or rather, a translucent 'Butterfree' made of shreds of old newspaper hastily taped together. Dusty handprints are left on the sticky ends, recording every bit of effort she put into making this little masterpiece.[break][break]

"Do you find that fun?"[break][break]

The soft trill that seeks to answer her only leaves her with more questions. With the mass of emotions being slipped into her mind, she doesn't quite know how to sort through it all and derive a suitable answer.[break][break]

Her head hurts, she wants to scream but her throat burns and her voice can barely claw its way out. Why had he done it? Why had he gone and killed all those innocent people? When she punches the wall, all she feels is pain. But surely this pain can barely be compared to the pain he must've inflicted on those trainers...[break][break]

What had he done? This kind of love is nothing but a noose wrapped around her neck, harshly tugged upon by reality as the scent of blood floods her senses. Her knuckles are red, bruised. Dark red liquid flows from the horrid abrasions, curling through her fingertips and embracing gravity as it trickles towards the ground.[break][break]

Drip. Drip. It stains the concrete, seeping into the smallest of cracks and probably further down into the earth below. Would it nourish the little known seeds that nestle within those tiny fractures? What kind of warped flora would begin to grow?[break][break]

She staggers back, her back slamming against the wall as she tries to cover her face. But she can still see it: Pulled to shreds, desperately pleading,[break][break]

"I... don't know why you chose to stay with me, but if I can help make this right in any way. I just... hope you'll guide me and tell me when you need help. You, Uxie, Azelf, Hideo. We're in the same boat now, I would think."[break][break]

To be met with the unending ichor gaze, to shake her to her very core without even changing a single thing. Eris' mind is a prison of her own making as she spirals further down this rabbit hole of concerns.[break][break]

"Whatever is gonna happen, those prophecies you showed me. The Tree of Life has already been taken, so something has to have changed... it could already have passed, really. But if they're real, if things are still going down that path, I hope that you'll let me try to change it."[break][break]

Reality sinks in over the course of a few days, the news of Rocket obtaining the Seal Stone slowly processed as she slips in and out of consciousness. When she wakes, she's dazed, somehow kept alive by Reiner with little packs of cut fruits and water. Then after that brief moment, she's back to sleep, hounded by a mild fever that refuses to break.[break][break]

In those moments of waking, she hears many voices, sees many faces that have all been blended into nothing but shapes and colours. Reiner seems to recognise them as friendly figures and in his judgement, she will trust. They speak to her about things... how... what... She never quite registers what they're saying but she can sense that they're... glad, if not worried.[break][break]

With a bleary gaze panning over Reiner, she reaches out and takes his paw with weak hands. And he will oblige her selfish little request, allowing her to squish his toe beans as he nestles by her side. There is no doubt in his mind that things will kick into high gear again just moments after she makes her recovery but for now, they must simply rest.

The door finally opens. She takes in a breath, but her words are stolen by Reiner's growl. Something's wrong, the air smells... sickeningly familiar.[break][break]

Though Eris doesn't quite know what Amor's been fighting, she's quick to grab hold of the Shadow Togekiss, drench a towel and dig through her cabinets for first-aid supplies.[break][break]

Even with Amor being a little testy, she manages to pick out the mess of feathers and remove those that are too far gone. Pressing down on the minor scrapes, the towel does its best to soak traces of blood and wipe away any dirt.[break][break]

"What made you mad?"[break][break]

Keep your fingers away from the mouth if you'd prefer to keep them intact. Every little hiss earns the Togekiss a quiet murmur of apology, swabs of iodine mixed in with a shower of Life Dew -[break][break]

"Does anything else hurt?"[break][break]

Once everything is cleaned and disinfected, she'll give the Togekiss space to float about, watching as Amor regards the table with a mean sideeye.[break][break]

"Don't hit it. You'll end up hurting yourself more."[break][break]

It's a moment of consideration. She just knows it is with how those dark eyes seem to drill into the wooden surface. But eventually, she loses her interest, turning her attention to the dirty towels littered across the ground instead.[break][break]
