The first comes to her in a most unusual manner.

At first Skyler doesn't even take notice of the swell in the nearby waves, creeping ever so closer to the armada of Lapras. It is only when one of them calls out in surprise that Skyler's eyes find the round shape of a Wailmer, floating in the gently lapping waves.

Asleep. The tides had probably washed it into the cove while it RESTed.

There isn't a battle to be had. The whale pokemon goes smoothly into the rounded shape of a pokeball with barely any fuzz, content to dream of distant ocean depths.

Skyler, on the other hand, grins widely.

Captain Skyler Dross knows enough about the ocean to have learned that to stray from shore is to invite a whole wealth of dangers. She seems undaunted, however, as she resurfaces far enough away that her Lapras are but blue blobs against the shoreline.

All but one, of course.

Long used to her trainer's antics, Sirena had followed Skyler in her foolish endeavor. The look she gives Skyler now is of exasperation worn down by familiarity. When the captain smirks up at the water type, Sirena doesn't hesitate to chomp down on a long stretch of blonde hair, tugging slightly.

Like one would a child.

"Sheesh, I'm okay. I'm not that far away."

She was, in fact, quite far away.

Away from shore, Captain Dross misses the small gathering of tourists that makes its way to the pale sands of the cove where her Lapras armada rests. A collection of 'ohh's and 'ahh's fills the space, prompting a few of the Lapras to lazily open their eyes before closing them again, utterly uninterested in the group of humans.

Lapras are known for their gentle temperament, which had almost brought them to extinction a few decades back. But these are Skyler Dross's Lapras and despite their better natures, like their captain, they do not suffer fools. Especially when someone interrupts their nap time.

The song rises up slowly, an enchanting melody that has the tourists blinkling slowly at first. A minute later they're all fast asleep and drooling onto the pristine sands.

Captain Skyler shoos a Dratini away, utterly clueless.

"Buddy, you can't just get a free ride whenever you feel like it."

The Clobbopus set its eyes on her, two stubby tentacles waving around frantically as if the tiny cephalopod was trying to impart something of great importance to her. Of course, nothing but incomprehensible gibberish reached her ears, and Captain Dross blinked when the little squid started foaming at... whatever orifice served as its mouth. It was clearly growing more agitated.

Skyler Dross had the sudden suspicion that it was simply throwing a tantrum.

Realizing that the Clobbopus probably wouldn't give up its perch on Lapras' shell, Captain Dross sighed and plucked it with a swift move of her arms (barely avoiding getting punched) and settled it on her head. 

"Now stay."

It did. Surprisingly. Maybe it liked being a hat.

After some time the restless tentacles settled down, falling limp on either side of Skyler's face as the baby Clobbopus (apparently nestled comfortably atop the captain's head) fell into a deep sleep. Which was just as well because Skyler was starting to feel a crink in her neck from the extra weight.

Calloused hands cradled the cephalopod and removed it gently from the top of her head, grimacing when she caught sight of the amused side eye she was getting from Sirena. "Oh, shush." A bubble popped as Clobbopus did something akin to snoring.

Rising from her sitting position, Captain Dross left the little guy to his slumber while expertly navigating around Sirena's shell spikes to look out into the deep ocean. "Any sightings yet?"

While Skyler was busy watching the shallow waters for any signs of passing Wailmer, the tiny Clobbopus snored away between Sirena's shell spikes. He probably could've slept the whole afternoon away too, if not for the stream of water that broke through the surface of the ocean to slam him awake.

The baleful rage that bubbled within the tiny cephalopod then could've been the subject of epic poems and legendary tales - but stuck as it was within a baby Clobbopus, it went unseen and unheard by the world at large.

Except when it jumped into the water to wrestle the annoying Dratini into submission with a SUPERPOWER. Less than a minute later, the serpentine pokemon - rethinking a few life choices - sunk to the depths while Clobbopus, satisfied, resumed his beauty nap.
