The chosen battlefield is one of the long stretches of pale sand so characteristic of Hoennian shores. Slabs of rock dot the pale expanse, having detached themselves from the surrounding cliffs either due to natural erosion or due to haywire pokemon attacks (especially since the tournament had started).

Two flags are proudly displayed, one on each side of the battlefield, and carefully guarded by their respective team.

The announcer had babbled something about teamwork and inventive spirit - which Captain Dross had swiftly ignored in favor of flaunting her 'Laurence Anderson and Articuno Limited Edition' t-shirt at her best friend - along with a shit-eating grin.

The shirt itself isn't that different from the non-limited edition, except for one fact: in this one, Lars is topless. Better yet, this particular knock-off features the Head Ranger with the most hilarious, exaggerated googly eyes she'd ever seen.

They moved too.

"Hey spiky! Fancy kicking some butt?"

Two more people approach from the other side of the battlefield, though Skyler can't recognize them yet.

“Sky. Sky—what the fuck are you—” he stammered, mopping the hair that had fallen on his field of vision away for a few moments, slicking it back but not standing it up.

“Where the hell did you get that?! Why do I have googly eyes?!” he exclaimed a few moments later.

Fuck, this was so embarrassing on so many levels! Not to mention that the ‘fan club’ he had—somehow, had managed to show up where this next battle was going to take place!

“Sky, honestly—“ he went on with a sigh, before pinching the bridge of his nose again. It was one of the few tactics that kept him from losing it in public these days, that worked.

Anyway.

“Are you seriously going to ride that?” he inquired, tilting his head in the direction of her Pokémon.

“Just—give me warning when you do, okay?!” he added as he tossed a containment unit skywards and watched as an Umbreon hit the sand with a perfect four-point landing on all its paws before standing up.

The field for the event was very fitting. It's been a few years since Chloe last played capture the flag, but she was excited for the game to commence. Her eyes squinted as she looked in the direction of enemy territory, it was difficult to tell who her opponents were just yet but Chloe was prepared to crush them.

"..Soo you're names Ruby right?" Her attention shifts to her young teammate standing nearby, flashing the girl a friendly smile before continuing to talk. "I'm Chloe if you forgot.. I can handle defending the flag if you wanted to be offense? "

Fingers wrap loosely around a pokeball as she shifts it around in her hand. "My steelix is excellent when it comes to protection." She finishes with a soft chuckle, a hand scratching at her head as she felt like she was talking quite a bit.

"if that works for you, we should get going. Think their waiting on us." She nods again, moving slowly to the center so she could greet her opponents.

Ruby honestly, had never played this game before, but the rules seemed fairly straightforwards. Get the opponent's flag and bring it back to yours. However, to add Pokemon battles into the mix was an incredible idea, and certainly, a unique one to boot. Her eyes had briefly scanned the battlefield before turning her attention over towards her partner. [break][break]

"Yeah, Ruby's the name!" She'd quickly smile back, adjusting her glasses to get a bit of a better look at the other woman. "I can handle offense easily! I've been planning for it actually." Her own hand briefly brushed against the Pokeball on her hip as an eager grin quickly formed on her face. She'd reveal her own little twist once the game actually began, but she certainly hoped it would work as well as she hoped. The Zoroark within certainly would love the game just as much as she would.[break][break]

She'd walk alongside her towards the middle to greet the opponents before the match. Of course, as they approached she recognized Lars from across the way. Ruby would quickly wave to attempt and grab his attention as she yelled out. "Hey! Over here! Let's get this started!"

Every word that escapes Laurence Anderson 's mouth at Skyler's choice of merchandise widens the curl of her mouth. By the time he's gotten it out of his system, an impossibly smug grin runs across her face, clearly drinking in the reaction. "I personally like the googly eyes. They give you a certain charm." A pause, bright silver eyes gleaming with the promise of trouble. "Aunt Jules agrees with me too, I think she might be your number one fan." She's pretty sure the woman is somewhere up in the cliffs along with the other Anderson Fan Club members, swooning over Articuno's avatar. [break][break]

The Girafarig nuzzles Skyler's hand, briefly sniffing at the flask on her hip before Skyler pats her away. "What d'you mean?" Pat pat. "Seabiscuit is a racing horse." Whether Captain Dross is being dead serious or just pulling Lars' leg is left up for debate as their opponents approach from the other side of the battlefield, garnering the captain's attention almost immediately. [break][break]

"Hey! Wait- Chloe, that you?" Expression brightening with recognition, Captain Dross waves enthusiastically at the pair. She doesn't think to warn Lars (despite him asking her to) before hopping onto Seabiscuit and galloping the rest of the way to greet their opponents, taking the time to subtly size them up. [break][break]

"Skyler Dross, ship captain and treasure hunter." Her smile is lopsided and genuine as she aims it at the only person she doesn't know (Ruby Walker ), hand reaching out for a handshake. "Nice to meet ya. Sorry to have to kick your butt."[break][break]

Introductions completed, Skyler retreats. A shrill whistle echoes in the small stretch of beach framed by high cliffs, warbling the sound in weird ways and signalling the start of the challenge. [break][break]

If it were possible to die of sheer embarrassment right here and now he’d have done that already. Oh, for the sand to swallow him up and regurgitate his limp form…

“You—you do realize that—” he began to stammer in Skyler’s direction, before lowering his voice to a hiss, “…that some of those club members can go feral? Especially—her!” he added a few moments later as he pinched the bridge of his nose once more.

Recognizing one—no wait, he knew both of the young ladies across the arena, this was going to be—some trouble.

Especially with Ruby’s reputation.

Okay, why did he feel like the odd one out now?!

Waiting for Skyler to get back where he stood, he heard the whistle blast, before he pointed across the way.

“Distraction please, Vallen.”

Right then and there the Umbreon used a Confuse Ray flash-bang style attack in an attempt to catch the other two off-guard!

“You’re the one in charge here?” he asked Sky a few moments later. “My Umbreon’s mostly support, mind.”

"Great! I'll be counting on you Ruby!" She responds brightly, giving her partner an eager thumbs up continuing to walk towards the center to meet up with the opponents.

When noticing the other team, Chloe smiled immediately. "Hi Sky! It's great seeing you here!" She didn't expect to play against someone she knew but in a way that made things even more exciting. Chloe's gaze dropped down to Skyler's outfit, bursting out of laughter.

"That shirt is - " Her words cut off when realizing that her boss, Laurence Anderson was present. It was even more surprising to see him here then Skyler. "Hello, sir! I uh.. look forwards to the game!" She chuckles nervously, cheeks reddening. She'll have to ask Skyler where she got the shirt at a later time.

The whistle to commence is blown, and Chloe quickly takes a defensive position. Her steelix looming nearby having been confused by Lar's umbreon, delaying it's reaction.

"Let's do this!" She shouts to her team.

Ruby was quick to shake skyler dross's hand in response, chuckling quietly at the confident banter. "A pleasure to meet you, ma'am. And please, no need for apologies until after the match. You might grow to regret it." She gave a teasing smile back before quickly retreating back with her partner. Fighting the head ranger and an accomplished captain certainly was going to prove complex, but hopefully, luck was on their side.[break][break]

@chloe's massive Steelix took the brunt of the blow for the Confuse Ray, its massive size protecting Ruby from the bright light. Finally releasing her own Pokemon, the Zoroark would quickly form right behind the giant steel-type Pokemon, blocking it from immediate view as its Illusion would let it take the appearance of...[break][break]

Laurence Anderson? [break][break]

Sure enough, it almost appeared like the Head Ranger himself was just sent out of her Pokeball. Trusting in her Pokemon to do exactly as planned, she turned and quickly spoke to her partner. "Separate them if you can! But protect the flag first and foremost!" With that, Ruby suddenly twisted and kicked her feet into the ground as she began to attempt to dash around the edge of the arena in an obvious distraction.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Cheshire the Zoroark was grinning madly behind its calm illusion using Hone Claws as it prepared to cause as much chaos as possible. Luckily, the massive size of her partner's pokemon prevented him from being seen right away.

In actuality, Skyler has absolutely no idea what sort of strategic placement her Girafarig would have on the field, if any at all. But the image of galloping towards their enemies whilst using its psychic abilities to shove everything out of the way had been one Captain Dross couldn't shake, regardless of its impracticality. And the fact that they probably would get to her first. [break][break]

Laurence Anderson 's Umbreon flashes a Confuse Ray at their enemies; and just like that, the challenge has started. Ruby Walker 's sneaky Zoroark is completely missed, hidden from Skyler's bright silver gaze behind the gigantic width of @chloe 's Steelix. [break][break]

Grinning wildly, Skyler gives her partner-in-crime an insolent salute. "We got this, spiky!" They really, really did not. Looking towards the enemy side of the field, Skyler wastes no time before jumping into action. Since Laurence Anderson is the support, that means Skyler is the attacker. Right?[break][break]

Heedless of any plan, the captain drives her heels into Girafarig's flanks and, with the closest approximation to a fierce neigh the Girafarig could muster (which, to be fair, is more akin to a depressed honk), both pokemon and human charge towards the enemy flag. A thin sheet of pink surrounds the Girafarig, the FUTURE SIGHT attempting to peer into their opponents' motivations.[break][break]

At the sound of the depressed honk, he was kind of worried there.

“Sky, I’m concerned for your noble steed over there,” he called out, watching as she surged forward in a ‘mighty gallop’, while his own Umbreon patrolled the sidelines just in case anything crazy came up.

“You might want to close your Girafarig’s eyes for a few moments.”

A few moments later, the Umbreon then flashed the Meanest Look he could muster at the Steelix on the opposite side of the field.

Wait a second, only a Steelix?

Where was the other Pokémon they were supposed to keep an eye on?

Umbreon used Mean Look!

"You got it partner!" Chloe responds gleefully to Ruby's command. Her steelix quick to shake off the confuse ray by Lar's umbreon. Shaking it's large heard and snorting out of annoyance due to the move. It was intimidating that she had to hold back the great captain Skyler Dross, but she felt comforted knowing that her teammates hade her back.

Realizing Ruby's strategy Chloe smiles out of amusement, it was genius. Keeping up with Skyler she yells a command to her steelix: "Rock Throw!" Whipping it's snake like body, stones are cast onto the field. The purpose to slow down the attackers.

Ruby was running across the beach on foot herself, her bare feet kicking up the sand with every step. Of course, she had no actual intention of being able to grab the flag and competing with actual pokemon, but she could only hope the distraction would throw them for a bit of a loop. [break][break]

"Hey!" Ruby called out, trying once more to grab as much attention as she could. "What are you waiting for? Fight!" [break][break]

Meanwhile, her Zoroark was finally getting into position. The words Ruby had spoken were absolutely meant for them, it was time to move. With sharpened claws, they chuckled quietly behind the Onix, protected from the Mean Look by its incredible bulk. [break][break]

With incredible AGILITY, the illusory Laurence Anderson would suddenly rush across the battlefield. Utilizing the rocks sent out by their ally, Zoroark would dash from stone to stone appearing as if Lars was practically running at top speed if one were to even notice them.[break][break]

Of course, given the bootleg head ranger on skyler dross 's shirt, it was bound to cause a bit of a reaction regardless.

For once, Skyler heeds Laurence Anderson 's warning and has her noble steed close her eyes for a moment while the Umbreon does its best to Mean Look their opponents. It causes them to stumble over Steelix's rocks, nearly dislodging the ship captain from her seat atop the Girafarig. But strong thigh muscles hold on tightly despite the obstacle. Girafarig's FUTURE SIGHT coming in to play and ensuring the Girafarig knows where the stones are, swiftly galloping between them.

"Hah, as if those could stop us! You-"
[break][break]
Her words are cut short by the sudden appearance of a second Lars running in the opposite direction she'd been heading. "What...?" She's so distracted she nearly falls from her equine the next time they dodge a rock. "Lars?! Why didn't you tell me you have a twin!"

Girafarig's teeth sink into Skyler's leg to catch her attention, eliciting a pained hiss from the ship captain. "Shit, yeah, I'm paying attention." Still running at full speed, they are swiftly closing the distance between themselves and the Steelix. Skyler grins, tapping Girafarig's side. "Now, Seabiscuit!"

Another sheen envelops the Girafarig, it's dark, doe-like eyes focused on the steel behemoth in front of them as it uses TELEKINESIS to hold it up in the air - and open up the path to their enemies' flag.

“Wait, what the hell are you talking about, I’m over here—” he remarked as he turned his gaze from where Skyler was charging ahead and then seeing—

Okay, for one thing, there was something rather off.

The Lars on Skyler’s side of the field had his hair down, for one. Plus, he was topless to boot.

“Sky! Don’t get distracted!” he shouted, reaching up to bump her in the shoulder before tilting his head at Vallen, a sign for the Umbreon to dart forward—

And then go in right for a Feint Attack—aimed not at the Steelix, but at the ‘other self’ he was staring at.

“For one thing, I’m over here. Another? Even if I want to risk sounding conceited, bet’cha ‘he’ can’t do this!”

A few moments later, a thin layer of frost formed on his free hand, before summoning several small icicle projectiles that he sent hurtling forward towards his ‘doppelganger’—similar to how an Ice Shard attack would look; only this time it was coming from him and not the Umbreon (who was obviously a Dark-type).

Umbreon used Feint Attack!
