The tournament was an absolutely wonderful experience so far. The sights, the sounds, the smells, everything was just so much better in the city around this time. Ruby's own excitement was almost tangible enough that it could have been cut with a metaphorical knife, much to Whisper's displeasure as the Hatterene walked alongside her trainer. Her quiet, slightly disgruntled look was quite obvious. [break][break]

Despite that, Ruby only smiles at the Hatterene. This was certainly a much better improvement than what she had been like in the past, just being in the city alone would have been asking for chaos. "You know, you can at least pretend you're having fun, dear. For me?" She'd teasingly blink up at the tall witch, putting on a soft puppy dog eye look.[break][break]

The Hatterene stared back with an immovable, stone look on their face, responding with nothing more than cold silence. Regardless, Ruby simply chuckled quietly at her Pokemon's indifference as she reached out to grab the tentacle arm. "Oh, come on. You can't tell me you're not excited for a battle eventually, can you?"[break][break]

That definitely got a reaction, a soft smirk of their own forming on Whisper's face. Satisfied with her victory, Ruby was just about to head out onto the beaches and look for a proper challenge before her stomach interrupted her train of thought with a low growl. [break][break]

"Oh," She paused in her steps, suddenly glancing around in an attempt to find something. "Let's actually, grab a bite to eat first. Can't battle on an empty stomach, can we?" Whisper only rolled their eyes as Ruby led them around in their eager quest for food. It was, of course, silently implied that she would be fed as well, which satisfied her for the time being.

For once, Cardamom was in charge of the Bliss Bakery booth. Oh sure, he'd helped out back at home, but those had always been smaller events, even on the busiest days. Verdanturf just didn't get the kind of traffic that Slateport did. Banana Bread was off doing his own advertising with Luke, while his dad and Mama Cori were on an ingredient run. Mama Vicky had gotten a bit overheated and was currently resting at their hotel room, leaving Cardamom the only current hand available. Of course, Half-Moon was there too, arms crossed and standing to the side of the booth to make sure no one tried to snatch any of the pastries.[break][break]
However, as he waved and called for people to come over and buy, his eyes slid to the witchlike Pokemon walking by. They were gorgeous, and a species he'd rarely had the chance to see. He stared for a moment, before noticing they were coming closer. He started quickly heating up some of the frozen pastries on the portable grill, allowing the smell to fill the air and hoping it would draw them closer. On the other side, Shin was also helping Half-Moon by pouring out crepe batter.[break][break]
"H-hello!" he called to the duo as they approached the stand. "You're in luck-we've just got some freshly baked pastries and crepes! All of the best possible quality!"

A voice called out from a nearby food stand, and Ruby's interest was intrigued almost right away. Pastries and crepes? Certainly seemed intriguing to be sure. She had never heard the name Bliss Bakery before, but the smell alone was simply incredibly enticing. With a soft smile on her face, Ruby quickly approached the stand. [break][break]

"Hello! Umm... I don't know, what do you think looks good Whisper?" Ruby would simply turn her head to the Hatterene, the tall Pokemon suddenly leaning forwards to get a closer look. After a few seconds of a complete dead stare directly at Cardamom and the Obstagoon nearby the claw on the end of their tentacle eventually pointed directly at the pastries that had been freshly set on the grill. [break][break]

"We'll take those ones when they're finished, then! And how much will that be, sir?"

Cardamom watched the pair as they discussed. He could appreciate a trainer who took the time to carefully ask their Pokemon's opinion on things like this. He grinned a bit when the witchlike Pokemon pointed at the pastries being grilled. "Well, that's a good choice!" he said. "They'll be ready fairly soon, so you won't have to wait long at all!" He named the price, one that was actually a bit lower than the usual bakery price. After all, they were less well-known here, so a cheaper price would mean more people buying for now.[break][break]
"That's a really lovely Pokemon you have there, by the way," he added. "Have you two been together long?" Shin, meanwhile, had paused in his batter-stirring, and was staring intently at the witchlike Pokemon. He slowly reached out to tug his trainer's sleeve. Cardamom blinked for a bit, before nodding. "Oh! Um...are you participating in the tournament? Because Shin's been eager for a fight for a while now."

Ruby easily slid across money from her purse across the counter of the stand, exact change too. No reason to carry around extra coins if she didn't have to. She wasn't thinking of much, sort of unfocused and just thinking about food for a few seconds before she had been spoke too. Ruby quickly blinked, snapping back into focus. [break][break]

"Oh! Yeah, we've been together... Pretty much all my life, I think?" She'd glance up at Whisper, who simply returned nothing more than an emotionless stare, with the faintest hint of a smirk on the forest witch's face. "Yeah, something like that! I met her when I was just a tiny little child running in the forests back home! She's been my best friend ever since."[break][break]

With the Tournament brought up, Ruby was quick to smile. "Yeah, I'm participating! Why, are you looking to compete too?" Whisper, for her part, seemed to smugly chuckle completely silent, ever cocky and confident. Ruby simply rolled her eyes at her Pokemon, as if quietly telling her to be nice.[break][break]

"Don't mind her, she's just always like this. If you want, we could absolutely have a battle as soon as you are finished up!"

Cardamom smiled, taking the money and putting it away in the box his family had set up for this. It was unlocked, but there was almost always a Pokemon guarding the stall and the money box, and it was highly unlikely anyone'd manage to steal from it. His eyes widened even more at Ruby's story, looking quite excited to hear it.[break][break]
"Wow, really? She sounds like she was almost a guardian angel for you or something..." He looked over at Half-Moon, patting her on the arm. "Half-Moon's been with me since childhood too! Though she was already part of the family at that time. She's just assigned herself my own particular protector." The Obstagoon let out a proud huff at that. Of course she was going to look out for the smallest member of her human pack.[break][break]
When she accepted the challenge, the Teddiursa pumped both his fists in the air, doing an excited little dance. Cardamom chuckled, before reaching over to flip the pastries. After a bit more sizzling, he scooped them into a bag, before smiling over at Whisper and passing the bag over. "Your treats, madam," he said with a slight bow. It just felt right, to show this kind of respect for the ethereal Pokemon.

Guardian angel was certainly a term to put it. Whisper had protected her from so many different incredible dangers at this point, from just wild Pokemon to literal aliens, as wild as the concept still sounded. She slowly reached over to grab the end of the Hatterene's tentacle, a soft smile on her face. [break][break]

"That's so lovely. I have a few other pokemon from when I was very young, but none of them as early as Whisper here. When I was still but a child, my parents assigned an Indeedee to babysit me, and they are still a sweetheart of a Pokemon." She'd chuckle quietly, giving a fairly genuine smile as she examined the other individual and their pokemon. The Teddiursa was adorable beyond measure, that was for sure. [break][break]

Grabbing the bag of pastries, the forest witch simply seemed to smirk and gently nod their head in return at the kid's respect. Of course, with such a wide-brimmed hat of hair, it was quite visible. [break][break]

"Well," Ruby began, only to hand the bag of pastries up to Whisper's face. Suddenly, little hands reached out of the hair, only to begin to dig into one of the tasty treats from within. "We can fight as soon as you're ready, then! I'll be waiting!"[break][break]

Cardamom blinked a bit in surprise when he saw the hands, but Pokemon could be strange like that, so it wasn't too surprising. He nodded, looking over at Half-Moon. "Hey, can you help manage the stall for a bit?" he asked. The Obstagoon nodded, carefully taking out the price sign they used for situations like this and setting it up for anyone who happened by. Shin, already vibrating with excitement, rushed over and hopped onto Cardamom's shoulders, making him chuckle.[break][break]
He stepped out from behind the stall, looking around before pointing at one of arena clearings lying around the beach. "How about over there?" he suggested, already walking towards it at Shin's insistence. "Someone's pretty excited to get started," he added with an additional chuckle.

"Yeah, over there works fine." Ruby quietly spoke as she continued to walk alongside her Pokemon. Whisper seemed content to just continue to devour the pastries, clearly hungry before the match. There was no one else she could imagine using for a casual battle like this anyways. But, some of those pastries were hers too! Rolling her eyes, Ruby took the bag away from the Hatterene for the time being, earning a displeased look from them for a second. Giving them a teasing grin in response, Ruby quickly made her way over towards the arena. [break][break]

"Alright Whisper, get ready." The witch pokemon nodded her head, slowly floating out into the middle of her side of the arena, patiently awaiting the battle. With that, Ruby turned her attention towards Cardamom. [break][break]

"So, I don't know how much experience you got, but I presume a 1v1 battle works good for you?" Ruby would unconsciously reach up to hold the amulet of her necklace, containing the stone capable of powering Mega Evolution. "I will warn you! Me and Whisper here won't go easy! She probably wouldn't go easy even if I asked her to, huh?"[break][break]

Whisper only responded with a knowing smug smirk. [break][break]

She would wait patiently for Cardamom to get ready and set for the battle, before kicking things off as a simple timer counted down near the arena. As soon as it ticked down to zero and the battle actually began, Ruby called out to her Pokemon. "Calm Mind. Get ready for whatever they got, don't underestimate them."[break][break]

Whisper would let out a long sigh, closing her eyes for a brief moment as she stopped focusing on the world around her, embracing the battle with a focused mind.

Cardamom nodded as Whisper took her place as their opponent. Shin did not seem discouraged at all by the size of his opponent, or even the Mega Accessory that Ruby was brandishing. Cardamom definitely took an interest in it though, his eyes widening when he saw what Ruby had. However, he just grinned, looking determined.[break][break]
"Understood!" he said. "Shin will do his best too, won't you Shin?" The Teddiursa let out a playful snarl of agreement, right before charging forwards with his claws glowing, aiming to strike with a simple-but-effective Slash attack. After all, Calm Mind wouldn't do anything to defend against physical attacks, and getting physical was Shin's specialty.

The Slash struck across Whisper's form, striking with a powerful force from such a small and cute Pokemon. Of course, the Hatterene silently sneered at the teddy bear as she began to move. Her short-range teleportation was her default locomotion, but it was still fairly slow as she attempted to circle around the Teddiursa.[break][break]

Ruby paused for a second, deciding right away that without any super-effective moves it was simply going to be a slugfest. Perhaps it was time to shake up the battle and make the odds a bit more favorable. "Whisper! Magic Powder!" [break][break]

Taking in a deep breath, the Hatterene would suddenly chuck a fistful of glimmering particles towards the Teddiursa, intent on changing its typing to Psychic. It was practically like just having a powerful burst of glitter shot into your face.

Shin blinked and sneezed as the powder rained down over him, looking down at his claws with confusion as something seemed to shift internally. His claws and eyes seemed to have taken on a faint pink sheen, and his eyes even had their own slight glow to them now.[break][break]
"Huh? Oh wow, I didn't expect that. Be careful of what she's bringing next!" called Cardamom. Shin nodded, keeping an eye on his opponent before suddenly jabbing a paw forwards in a Feint Attack. The Dark-type attack felt much more unnatural to perform with his new, altered, type, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to do his best. Once he'd struck out, he quickly started backing up, still keeping an eye on his opponent and ready for whatever she might try next.

The Feint Attack struck Whisper, despite their attempt to dodge. Despite the majority of their body being hair and the potential confusion that might cause, they were too slow to really benefit from it. The paw jabbed straight into her actual body, forcing Whisper to catch her breath for a moment, clearly hurting from practically acting like a moving punching bag for the past few moments. [break][break]

"Now!" Ruby yelled, immediately gripping the necklace around her neck. "Hit them with everything we got!" Light would shine out from between her fingers as she gripped the Mega Accessory as the Hatterene themselves began to glow. Shifting their form and growing in size, her hair grew larger and larger as their tentacle split into three, exposing the miniature form within. [break][break]

Getting really into the energy of the battle, Ruby dramatically pumped her fist as she continued to yell. "It's time! Black Hole Eclipse!"[break][break]

Whisper would immediately smirk, the witch Pokemon's true sadistic side leaking out as Z-Power began to build within them. With their tentacles raised, a large red and black orb began to form within. Its shape was visibly malformed, filled with intense energy. Suddenly, the orb would almost implode on itself as it shrunk massively, only to be thrown akin to a baseball and attempt to reform right behind the Teddiursa. The dark forces reaching out and attempting to suck the newly psychic bear in and crush them.

Cardamom gasped in awe as the Hatterene grew larger, hair practically filling their side of the arena. And that attack name...probably didn't bode well. "Shin, Charm!" he called desperately as he saw the Hatterene start winding up for the strike. Hopefully that was the right call, he thought, as the tiny bear did his best to put on that attack-lowering face of his before he was sucked into the black hole, feeling it crush down on him as he let out a squeal. Slowly, the black hole opened up again, and Shin slowly and woozily got to his feet, putting up both his claws and weakly making a "come at me" gesture.
