Another bright and sunny day, and Rayne waved off another content customer with a smile, it was approaching midday and he'd had a steady stream of business throughout the day already. Quaint and fun work, and he could relax just enough that it wasn't a chore, even with just himself and his pokémon. With his time idly flowing by, he'd figured it best to feed his employees, while regular pokémon kibble was fine and all, Rayne had somewhat caused his pokémon to become quit the gourmands, his Raichu in particular tending to get all huffy and pouty without her pancakes.[break][break]

With a laugh he'd set aside a table for his own pokémon, settling for some of his menu sandwiches himself as he idled by. There was always a good chance that another customer would be coming by, and he'd at least need to be prepped for work while he let his pokémon take their break. The soft rocking of the ersatz-wailord—once some restaurant, now Rayne's living space as well as his own personal café—the gentle push of the waves along the boat-top café were a gentle lull, Rayne could easily fall asleep like this. Though a gentlemanly smile was resolute as he awaited to hear the chime of the bells for another customer.

As one of the many options for a first stop to mark her entry into Hoenn, Slateport City was definitely one of the top choices, with the already being a wonderful reminder of home for both her and her pokemon. For most of the day the young woman had been wandering around, cruising on her switchboard through the streets whilst taking in the wonderful breeze on such an amazing day, her eyes capturing the bright atmosphere while her ears absorbed all the sounds around her. Taking a joyride on her switchboard was obviously going to take some toll on her and her pokemon, especially with the way that Kanoa became lost in it, simply letting the allure of the city drag her around while Haoa followed swiftly behind as fast as it could.

Not only was she beginning to get hungry, but so were her friends, and that’s when her nose had caught a whiff of something, some delicious scent that didn’t help the Alolan’s growing appetite. Following it, Kanoa and Haoa were guided to the edge of the dock, where the smell continued to linger above the water and towards the docked boats near the beach. Haoa immediately barked, running over to the scent and scratching at the door until someone or Kanoa herself would open it. It seemed like the smell was coming froma homey little place called the Sunshower Cafe, where Kanoa would enter once she had finally arrived at the entrance to the establishment. She would look around a bit, curious about its interior and decorations until her eyes caught those of the guy who probably worked here. “Hey uh… do you guys have anything for a pokemon to eat? I dunno if the stuff ya serve here would be somethin’ appealing to Haoa over here.” The ranger cadet would pet her the large Arcanine, whose tongue seemed to be hanging out a bit with whimsy.

Oh my, it seemed the door had managed to loosen and close after the last customers, the hulking massive shape of an Arcanine pawing at it rather apparent. He'd gone to try to open it, but it seemed the Arcanine's owner had gotten to it just a bit faster than the dark-haired gentleman could. When she'd gone to order, he'd quickly noticed the Alolan name that seemed to be for the Arcanine in question,[break][break]

"Well, aside from specific dietary concerns, everything's available in some fashion for most pokémon's needs bar the things that need coffee, otherwise, regular kibble is available as a free extra service." Rayne had explained shortly, even things that needed chocolate, he could replace with carob, though certain things that needed particular ingredients like the gratin needing onions, he couldn't exactly replace. "Though for a treat I'd highly recommend the pancakes, they're my personal favourite, and my Raichu would very much agree." He'd added with a smile, a set of ears perking up from one of the tables at a mention of the Raichu that owned them.[break][break]

The Alolan-native pokémon in question had turned to the source of chatter with curiosity, its face completely covered in syrup and fruit and pieces of pancake. Rayne had chuckled at the confirmation from how thoroughly and gracefully Paua had completely demolished her meal.[break][break]

"Otherwise, if that's not satisfactory, I'm always happy to expand my menu."

Kanoa’s eyes lingered a bit on the worker as he began to give his recommendations, noting his general look and the way that he carried himself, since her father always told her that you can tell what kind of person someone is by the way that they carry themselves. But her attention was caught between the wonderful aroma of the café and the Raichu that seemed to be having a wonderful time enjoying the pancakes that the worker mentioned as an option. What was more interesting though, at least when the young ranger decided to take a closer look at the Pokémon, was that it was an Alolan Raichu.

Kanoa’s eyes widened as she turned back toward the worker with a smile, running her hands through the Arcanine’s hair while she thought it over. “You know what. I think Haoa here will have to try the pancakes. And I… well…” The young woman’s eyes trail over the menu for a moment, taking a good look at all the choices, and to be honest, none of them made her choice any easier. Everything on the menu looked really good! “I’m not going to lie, all of the options you have here look really good… But I think I’ll have Seared Arrokuda Sparkling Berry & Fruit Juice. Though if I were to recommend any expansions to your menu I think adding some more fish wouldn’t be a bad idea. I can give you some recommendations on recipes too, if you’d be okay with that. I’m not a cook myself but my mom is an amazing one!”

Rayne had smiled sincerely as he observed the trainer's own examinations, chuckling when she'd confirmed that he had indeed swayed her with his recommendation—most of his amusement coming from Paua's rather ridiculously food-caked innocent face, perhaps he'd need to have that photographed and displayed on a wall somewhere.[break][break]

"I'm glad to hear that, it's been a personal dream to run a quaint place like this and make things that'd make people smile," he'd quickly jotted down the order, pausing for a moment to ask; "Any particular blend for the drink? We've got most of the commonplace berries and fruits. Oh, and would you prefer hash or fries?" After he'd been answered, Rayne had jotted it down, though he'd been rather intrigued at a possible new receipt for the menu, and something that might be Alolan home cooking.[break][break]

"Do tell? If nothing else I'm rather proud of my ability to memorize things, I'd most certainly love to hear a recipe that'd let me handle more of the local catches, Slateport's wonderful like that! Not to mention more things to remind me of home would be grand, fish dishes were pretty much all we had at the Village." He'd happily explained—making certain that he'd lived in Alola for some time before moving to Hoenn with his last comment pointing towards the Seafolk Village that idled on the coasts of Poni Island.

It wasn’t hard for Kanoa not to chuckle and smile at the Raichu’s caked up face paired with the rather endearing dream of the shop’s owner, almost immediately reminding of what her own mother used to say about the restaurant that she operated. She would say: “The smiles from enjoying my food was more than payment to keep the roof over this kitchen!” The Alolan honestly couldn’t even wait for the food to come, her stomach growling in anticipation with Haoa staring intently at the pancakes that the Raichu seemed to be enjoying so much.

When the man asked about the dishes, a part of what he had said caught her ear, “more things that would remind me of home”, and her eyes widened at the realization! She quickly lifted one of her hands and pointed rudely at him, her eyes filled with glee, “Wait wait wait wait! You’re from Alola? That’s awesome, I had considered it once I saw your Raichu! Oh right the drink… uh maybe strawberries. I’ll also take hash!” She took a deep breath for a moment, Kanoa hoping to not let her excitement get the better of her. She started tracing her gloved hands, trying to remember what the names were for some of the dishes her mom made. “Uh… If I remember right… Seared WishiWashi steaks, fried Marean bulbs, and there was also Araquanid soup! The first two are usually a lunch or dinner addition but the soup is pretty squarely an appetizer!”

Rayne had blinked for a second, taking in Kanoa's surprise... with a little surprise of his own, "Oh? Yes~ well, my parents were Kalosian but we moved to Alola before I could even walk~" he'd chimed happily shortly after, jotting down the rest of the Alolan girl's order with a whispered mouthing of each option, before reciting to make certain; "Seared Arrokuda with hash, sparkling strawberry, and the buttermilk pancakes," before flipping the notepad closed with a shut-eye smile. In all honesty, writing it down was mostly a formality to reassure customers, even if Rayne had quite the memory attached to him, it would seem a little worrying if he didn't.[break][break]

Though that hadn't stopped him from keeping a mental note of the three dishes Kanoa had suggested, his first immediate thought that the seared Wishiwashi & fried Mareanie Bulbs would certainly be interesting to give a go, though he wasn't quite sure how easy it'd be to convince Hoenn customers about the Araquanid... especially since the simple mention of a 'spider' on his menu already seemed to have confused and put off customers from the drink it was associated with, despite simply just being slang for the region it originated from.[break][break]

"I'll definitely be having a look at the suggestions," he'd at least reassured, "Though if you don't mind, your order'll be ready in just a moment." He'd said with a smile, turning, though quickly realising he'd forgot to set the drinks. He'd quickly mixed together the sparkling fruit juice, alongside a glass of water and a bowl for the trainer's pokémon. Setting the drinks first then crouching down to put the bowl of water out for the Arcanine, he'd chance to steal a little pat and fluff of the big pokémon before washing his hands and heading into the kitchen.
