The camel gave a groan as Sam released it into the arena. The battle buzzer had let loose and Sam took a deep breath, letting it out slowly as he waited for the cue.

Once it was given, Balder would have first move, since he'd called it and won it.

Sam just cracked his thumb knuckles and turned his head in a circle, trying to get prepared for whatever was gonna be thrown at him.

And maybe trying not to be intimidated by brunette Zac, yikes. Some of these guys were seriously stacked. Tall, muscular-- sure Sam was fit, but no, he wouldn't consider himself on the same level as these giants.

"Let us begin this duel of Volcanoes." The Camerupt shook its body, getting rid of any dead fur from its body. Once it was ready, it started at the other Camerupt and its trainer. Then, suddenly... The stare went blank, the camel turning its head slightly, as if it had forgotten what it was doing here. A sudden case of... Amnesia

Sam recognized the look for what it was. That wouldn't bode well for them... unless they just finished the fight quickly.

He didn't know of Balder aside from stories and media. Exclusives on gym leaders and the like, granted it was on and off again coverage.

Either way, Sam knew not to mess with somebody like Balder. Not for long. And if he did, he'd need to be smart.

"Finish this quickly."

His own camerupt had been stumped. What a hunk hello, and the trainer was okay too. The camerupt's dull gaze wouldn't distract her, though. Her own expression was one of meditation, summoning the earth to open up in a fissure toward the other camerupt. Wether such a move with such power would hit or not wasn't up to her. But instead up to fate.

Seriously? Starting the battle with a Fissure? That's a bold battle opener. That move would've struck, if not for Vulcan stepping to the side due to his Amnesia. Instead, the fissure opened under Balder's legs, forcing him to move from his current spot. "Dude be careful, that's dangerous to use out in the public like that!"[break][break]

Seeing his master side-jump to avoid the fissure, the walking volcano remembered what they were here for... And glared in anger at the other Camerupt. This assault would not go unpunished. Seeing his pokemon's anger, the Alolan sighed. "Alright Vulcan, we're doing it your way. Time to go a level beyond."[break][break]

Mega Evolution happened. The two small volcanoes become a giant one. The Mega Camerupt roared as it slammed the ground, deciding to open the fight with an Eruption to teach some manners to the other one.

"the arena's made for bigger issues than this," the eruption of the other camerupt caused sam's camerupt to groan bracing the impact of the move while sam remained cool and collected. "but i suppose you're right. fill it back up!"

camerupt's great and might howl was given then and a shake of the earth had the fissure filling up with great MAGNITUDE.

As the fissure closed and the ground shook, the Mega Camerupt held on, stabilizing itself. It wasn't a strong magnitude, but it still dealt a small amount of damage. "Time to retaliate, Vulcan." An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth... Ground for Ground. Vulcan roared as he manipulated the ground around him, summoning the Earth Power to crash upon the Camerupt.

had she really even stood a chance? probably, but she'd been so starstruck. she'd never seen another camerupt like that before. let alone mega evolved. let alone being so damn hunky! needless to say, as she fainted, she was already fueling naughty camel dreams.

not sure what to make of the expression or noise that had left his camerupt when she fainted, sam recalled his camel as she hit the ground, defeated. balder was announced the winner and sam gave him a congratulatory smile as he approached, once the battle bits were settled.

holding out his hand for a handshake, sam sported his polite smile.

"well done. you camerupt's a beast."

Well this... was an anti-climatic ending. Both Balder and Vulcan didn't expect for the other Camerupt to fall so quickly. Only two attacks had been dealt to it before it collapsed. Was the Mega Evolution that much powerful? As the other trainer advanced, extending his hand for a handshake, Balder proceeded to grab it and shake as well.[break][break]

"I guess it's more of a beast then I expected. I didn't expect the battle to end so quickly." Yeah that Camerupt did clear a forest full of Kartanas, but that didn't mean it could destroy another Camerupt so quickly right? .... Right???

it was a little anticlimactic, but sam always thought those were decent sort of fights anyway. the sort that catch people by surprise even when they win. like a win is a loss, or a loss is a win.

really, wizz just writes battle scenes like the old game boy advanced games and so in her mind two hits from a camerupt let alone a mega is like wow bye bye my camerupt.

"do you feel a bit cheated?"

sam asked with a playful sort of smile. polite, still, but encouraging.

"i can send out another pokémon if you'd like."

The man wasn't aware that his team had gotten THAT strong. With all the crisis they handled in Hoenn, it seems like their evaluation of strength was Skewered.[break][break]

sam answered as he took his tease of a hand down from his capsules.

"i moved over when mr. dom pey requested me to take over mt. pyre for him. we did a lot of work back and forth with him back in kanto, my mother and i, when we were running the pokémon tower. she tends to the tower still, and i've taken residence in mt. pyre as it's caretaker."

literally what he thought about it right off the top of his head. he wasn't sure what answer balder had been looking for beyond that, so he elaborated.

"plenty of regions have had enough cataclysms i'm sure. though recently i've been so busy here cleaning up the mountain and making sure everything goes well, i haven't really checked in. besides kanto."

his mother kept him regularly up to date when she could.

So he hadn't seen the impacts of the chaos this region was in. The sudden increase of graves in Mt. Pyre, where an influx of over 300 pokemons had been recorded not long after the war with the Megalopolans... Of the madness created by Rocket's presence. "Well, I guess it's a good thing you didn't notice them. Just be careful of any strange incidents in the region." Because who knows who could be instigating them?
