What was the point in a long battery life if you couldn't access the internet or view images at a decent quality? If your phone lagged at any given time or wasn't able to compete with the newer, glass-screen touch ones?

She suspects he doesn't care for anything like that, though.

"Nearby. I am sure there's a taxi service close by."

[attr="class","beck"]there's actually a smart phone in his blazer owned only for business purposes. people tend to prefer email; even the shadiest of criminals are on hoennmail. it's actually quite jarring.

he nods at her response, then asks another question:

"could we walk there?"

Even though her attention seems the slightest bit unsteady, she scans his face for hidden intent. He is, as usual, unreadable. Or perhaps she simply isn't looking in the right place, not picking up on his subtleness.

Or maybe there is nothing to find at all.

"Inefficient."

There is a pause, and she finishes her glass of wine.

"Why do you want to walk?"

More specifically, with her? What was he playing at?

"might be a nice night out."

he slides out of his seat, stands, and extends an inviting hand out.

"come on."

"Hm."

She watches him stand and turn to her. His hand extends to help her to her feet and she hesitates before placing her hand in his, allowing him to help her to her feet.

Emma lets go as soon as she is on her feet, however, turning aside.

"Alright."

[attr="class","beck"]theo turns after her to follow, leaving their chips on the table for the dealer or whoever to collect.

they walk through the casino, into the lobby, then out into the open streets of slateport. it's quiet this late into the night night apart from the few cars that pass.

he fishes into his blazer for a pack of cigarettes, offering her one as he glances around the area. remembering the direction she approached from earlier, he steps that way.

The temperature has dropped since they'd entered. It isn't cold, but cool enough to surprise her flushed skin. Frankly, it's refreshing.

Emma breathes in deeply, even if the smell of the city was less than favorable. It is far better than the heavily perfumed casino, coiled with alcohol and food.

Theo jostles a pack of cigarettes and their smell draws her attention. She takes one, watching him carefully while he looks around. It shouldn't surprise her that he remembers which direction she had come from, but it does.

"Do you have a light?"

[attr="class","beck"]his steps falter. stopping, he turns back to her.

"yeah."

placing his own cigarette between his lips, he steps close and raises the light to hers. with a single scratch, it ignites, burning paper and tobacco.

Emma steps up to meet him. He lights it while it is held between her fingers and pressed to her lips. She sucks in, pulling the smoke through. The woman tilts her cheek to the side, exhaling so that it isn't in his face.

"Thanks."

And she stands there for a moment longer to hold his gaze before brushing past him to continue on their way.

[attr="class","beck"]theo lingers even after she brushes past him, unsure why exactly.

a moment passes before he lights his cigarette, stepping after her.

it's like he said earlier: it is a rather nice night. quiet, peaceful, and the stars are visible despite the bright lights of slateport.

he soon catches up, staying close to her side.

He does not immediately follow and she almost looks back- but she doesn't.

And then he falls into step next to her, closer than she felt was.. usual. She doesn't comment, nor does she draw away to put space between them. Rather, she lets her attention wander, idly enjoying the cigarette between her lips. The stars are beautiful, surprisingly easily to see. Perhaps the war hadn't been the worst thing to happen- just kidding.

They come up to kris flynn-edwards's house rather quickly. Even now it seems unfamiliar and.. cold. Flynn was a kind man, but it wasn't home.

[attr="class","beck"]it's not as far a walk she had made it out to be. he reaches the end of his first cigarette as they near the building. he makes a gesture towards it.

"this it?"

With a tap, ash is discarded into the nearby flowerbed.

She lifts her attention to the window above. The lights are off, suggesting that Flynn hasn't come home yet. Briefly, the woman glances down the street, as if expecting him to walk up.

"For now."
