The crowd is loud, and their voices resonate within him. He felt his heart shake with each beat as the screamed echoed through the little arena. He was so out of his element. Though he had grown to like a certain kind of attention this was just a lot all at once. He wasn’t a strong battler, and his public events were more….low key. Golf clapping kind of things. But its clear why when the MC introduces a local legend to the stage. [break][break]

“And his opponent! A Lillycove City native, fledgling trainer, and cute-as-a-button freelancing model: Mint! Frooooooooooooooost!” The cheers were not as loud. Not by a long shot, but at least its enough noise that he’s not embarrassed when he walks out to take his spot face his opponent. Pink dusts his cheeks as he smiles and waves at those polite enough to offer him praise. “Thank you for having me.” He said graciously, pulling from rusty skills to make it past his awkwardness. He pulled the first pokeball off his belt waiting until it was appropriate before just it forward an releasing an irritated looking Luxio. “Let’s get some practice in, Cacio!” he shouted, letting the pokemon know they were battling not…fending off wild beasts.

Mint laughed easily in response. “As long as they aren’t throwing stuff at me, I’m good!” Any other time he might’ve been live on IG or taking photos. Maybe he’d take one at the end of the match but for now? He’d rather not embarrass himself in front of his followers. Besides, this was good practice. “Nice to meet you too, Doug!” he added. He’s rightly mesmerized by his opponent’s trick blinking and scrunching up his face as he tried to figure out how he’d pulled something out of nowhere. The crowd sounded as delighted as he was to witness it. [break][break]

“Oooh~ Upping the stakes huh? Sounds fun.” The Rocket called out, reaching down to his belt to release another pokemon next to Cacio. “Canoli, time for some work!” he called out, his voice ringing the little Komala out of its groggy state. He yawned softly, looking around the packed stadium and gathering his bearing while the Luxio stood defensively next to them. While a badge sounded great, Mint had no idea what exactly the gym in Mauville meant. He knew where it was, sure, but not really a lot of the gym leader’s personal preferences in pokemon typing. He’d start out easy, stay guarded. At least, that seemed what Cacio wanted as he saw the electric type’s body glowing with a familiar energy. Though unconventional to take orders form his team, Mint more or less rolled with it now. The cat was far more experienced with battle after all. “Go for it Cacio, start with Magnet Rise. Canoli, use Yawn.”

“We’ll see how that goes after my performance~” Mint returned watching as Doug did some trickery again. He was too fact to really get what the trick was, but it was neat. Mint clocked both pokemon which were pretty big compared to his own teammates. But- they’d be fine right? Probably fine. Not fine! Not fine! Much like the trick from before, Mint could barely clock where the Gliscor went. And as Caacio tried to track it he sneezed a couple of times. A few aww’s came out of the crowd, even Mint. Until he asked, “Wait- what does that do aga-oh… Cacio?!” he called out watching at the electric wobbled on the spot before very neatly curling himself up in a ball to sleep. [break][break]

“Cacio! Wake up! Buddy?” Mint called but it didn’t seem to be working. He’d come back to that later. Canoli was still awake at least. “Canoli! Move in on the one you can see with Slam!” There’s a pause as the little Komala turned to his trainer, yawning quietly before turning back to his opponent calmly. And then, with a speed no one could have anticipated, sprinted at the bug type before yeeting himself at it’s face for his attack. All the while, Mint had pulled out his phone to take a photo like a proud parent.

Cacio was utterly unaware of the flurry of movement going on around him. From the multiple clicks of cellphones going off to the dual type that has just barely hit him with something that would’ve most definitely woken him up. He more or less just floated there, tail swaying and flicking ever so often in his peaceful slumber. Mint’s yelling didn’t exactly reach him. The trainer turned his attention to Canoli who began coughing the minute it fell back on the ground after hitting the Parasect. “You ok?” he called out as the Komala struggled to stand up, clutching his log as he backed away from the small cloud of poison that he’d inhaled. “Move back and support Cacio!” Mint added as the little Komala picked up and ran off, albeit more sluggishly than before getting so close. “Move in with Wood Hammer!!” he added as Canoli grew closer to the Gliscor, attempting to swat the larger pokemon away from his teammate. All the while coughing weakly as he did.

“Yeah! Atta boy Canoli!!” Mint cheered as the little normal type smacked away the Gliscor who escaped back into the ground. He then looked back at Doug before down at Bio. He had no idea what he was looking at. Doug had called for yet another weird cloud of…something. He wasn’t sure what it was, but he knew it was bad. Canoli began sprinting back at the bug type, without being told. The Komala didn’t pause despite the weird wretching noises he was making on run up there. “Canoli-! I guess Slam again?!” he yelled, realizing halfway through there was no making the angry Komala turn back. [break][break]

“Cacio, how we doing, bud?!” he shouted, cupping his hands so maybe that would reach the Luxio. The electric type still seemed unaffected. Hovering about a foot or two off the ground, Cacio’s ears twitched and his tail wagged. He was clearly still dreaming, much to Mint’s dismay. At least it was cute.

Canoli isn’t exactly in control of himself, running ragged and shuddering in pain as poison coursed through him. So, when he’s aiming for the Parasect, he doesn’t even notice the rumbling in front of him. He clocked the Gliscor but isn’t in any state to change course and is therefore flung backwards with a shriek. It’s shaky, and high pitched and the eeriness of it is enough to wake Cacio from his slumber. As Canoli drops to the ground, Cacio is alert, propping himself back up on all fours. The cuteness exhibition was over. [break][break]

“Oh good! Cacio good morning!! Get back in there!” Mint shouted as the Luxio took off, running past Canoli, the effect of the Rage Powder setting in on Cacio as well. Great. Ok. Electricity sparked all over the lynx pokemon’s body. He leapt past the Gliscor, one target in mind. “Thundershock Cacio!” Mint ordered, clocking they might as well try to take out the source of the red spore cloud. He then turned to Canoli who was trembling as he stood up. “Canoli?” he asked tentatively only for the Komala to begin getting up and running after his teammate while screaming. “Slam it is!” Mint yelled, cheering on the pair as they angrily zeroed in on one skittish bug type.

The shock of electricity hit but to no satisfaction form the lynx pokemon. Cacio didn’t even register the next attack, barreling through the tiny star assault with a loud snarl. Battered and bruised, but not broken, Cacio powered through moving forward with a vengeance. It wasn’t enough that Bio was hit, the Luxio’s pupils were locked onto the target eager to consume. Electricity surrounded his form as he moved in with a Wild Charge this time while Mint shouted. “This isn’t a wild battle Cacio, get a grip!” he warned, a hand moving to his pokeball in case he had to swap out the yoked out electric type.

As Canoli is ready to whack the Parasect, he lefts out another shriek as the Gliscor chomps down on him with an ice-cold fang attack. Shard of ice spray outwards and begin to collect on his little arms and body as the Komala is visibly trembling, from cold and the added frozen effect. Canoli dropped to the ground, immobile as the ice continued to creep over. “Canoli? Can you try Stockpile?!” he shouted as the little Komala wailed uncomfortable as uncomfortable could get.
